April 24, 20224 yr Bye. Bigger and better have moved on and we have kept on winning. Hazard left and less than 2 years later we were winning the CL.
April 24, 20224 yr This is our way of getting better quality in. AC and Rudiger have had their struggles during their time here. Look at how poor he was when Frank was in charge. He thinks the grass in greener well let him go and find out. Edited April 24, 20224 yr by Malcolm9
April 24, 20224 yr Meh. Barca are in severe decline. Wait till he starts the donkey defending over there and his car is hounded as he leaves the ground. Hiss hiss
April 24, 20224 yr I have no problems with players leaving after their contracts are up, but I really wish they'd just stop the f**king about 10 months into the season. Make a transfer window deadline for those as well, either you sign by then or off you go and don't bother keeping a lid on it. All that drama for nothing... Rudi, Christensen, Mbappe, Dembele and whoever else... ugh it sickens me.
April 24, 20224 yr A shame we only really got 2 good seasons out of Rudi and Christensen, 2 probably being generous as well. We can't even offer a contract right now due to sanctions right? Wish the new owners have come on board already.
April 24, 20224 yr This is a big loss for us. We just can't replace him like that. He is one of the best centerbacks in the game. We lose a top player and a great personality.

Who in our squad would you expect to see getting a bit angry, trying to spur the team on? Maybe Azpilicueta, maybe Silva, maybe at a push Kovacic...but definitely Rudiger. Out of the whole squad that is nowhere near enough. We are desperately short of strong characters and losing Rudiger is a big blow above and beyond his ability as a defender.
April 24, 20224 yr It's a blow but as others have said, we have lost better and more important players in the past. He's blown his chances or being CFC player of the season! Might as well give it to Silva now. Just hope Rudiger reverts to the player pre TT as lets not forget how bad he was at times and we all wanted to get rid!
April 24, 20224 yr Genuinley going to need 3 new CBs come next season. 1 can be Colwill but the other two have to be top established players.

Here's a player who became a better player at this club, using club resources. This was after the club took a risk on buying him after an ACL injury. He ran down his contract, wanted an extortionate amount of money - which the club mostly agreed to - and then decides to leave on free. An ounce of loyalty means you get your club a fee for the investment they put into you (a la Hazard). Edited April 24, 20224 yr by venom2011
April 24, 20224 yr Like I said in another thread, he should not be in the starting 11 for the rest of the season. PERIOD. FA Cup final as well.
April 24, 20224 yr 2 minutes ago, Phillip said: Like I said in another thread, he should not be in the starting 11 for the rest of the season. PERIOD. FA Cup final as well. What nonsense. He has given his all pretty much every game and I'm sure his mind was made up ages ago. If fit, he plays. He is our player till he leaves and our priority is to put the best possible team on the park that we can. He is clearly in that team.
April 24, 20224 yr You've confirmed Antonio Rudiger has decided to leave Chelsea. Do you have any concerns about his focus or playing him for the rest of the season? "No, absolutely no concern. He has no doubts and has made no doubts about it, he will play until the end of the season with everything he has. This is what he did from day one, and it's what he will do until the last minute. I am 100 per cent sure." How difficult will you find it to bring in a replacement of the same calibre as Rudiger? "At the moment, it is not possible because of the sanctions. And even when the sanctions are in the past, it will be incredibly difficult. Toni is what he is. He is a big personality, a big leader, he takes the fear away from other people, gives you confidence when he is next to you and has played 50-60 matches over 90 minutes with incredible consistency. So it will be challenging, but like always, no matter how much I love Toni and how big a role he played, there will be Chelsea without Toni Rudiger, and we will find solutions." Just how hard did you try to persuade him to stay? "Let him play all the time...even if he was no good! It's not only me, but it's always the club. I fought hard on a personal level, and we've had this kind of connection from day one. He deserves my full support because he delivered incredible performances, so reliable. So it was a give and take. "I know he is very aware of it, and I am just happy to have had the chance to coach him and have him in the team because he was nothing but brilliant until today. The club did as well, we had big offers for him, and the club tried everything. But for some weeks, we can't fight anymore because of the sanctions. We could not adjust or continue, so it is what it is." What is the injury Toni has? "The injury of Toni, in one leg it's the groin and the other a bit the hamstring. He is somebody that plays through the pain and is used to it, but it's muscle pain and huge discomfort. He feels insecure because he is not used to having muscle injuries. So he feels like it could happen. He wants to come back, and the plan is he is back on Tuesday in training for Thursday [against Manchester United. Hopefully, we can stick to the plan.
April 24, 20224 yr I will miss the character he has been under TT, and the leader. As a defender though I don't think he is a JT or Cahill level loss like a few are making out.
April 25, 20224 yr Christensen and Rudiger leaving leaves us massively short in depth and quality. It is very hard to just buy two players to fill this void. If we go for Kounde for example it takes time for him to adjust to the league, country and club. Maybe we buy one top player and trust Chalobah and Colwill to fill in the boots.
April 25, 20224 yr So, now we know!! Rudiger is away at the end of the Season. £200k a week is not enough, so it was always about the money. He has been excellent this season, but in his early days at Chelsea he was often a liability, and the majority of fans wondered what on earth we had bought, he was so poor. It is clearly TT that has turned him around, so without him, will he revert to type at Madrid - I hope so. He has foregone his chance to be a Chelsea legend, yes he will probably win La Liga, but he would have had a better chance of winning the Champions League with us. We have had better players than Rudiger leave and still gone on to win Leagues and Cups, so although it will be difficult to replace him while the sanctions are in place, I still back TT and the Board to get players in once our situation is known and Rudiger will simply become a former player who never quite hit the heights in Madrid.

Honestly surprised so many people think this isn't a loss. We've lost a massive player and character in the dressing room.
April 25, 20224 yr Just when we are getting our defence together, now we have to rebuild the attack, midfield AND the defence. And since Rudiger's leaving on a free, we get no money for him to put in to getting a new player. I'm not looking forward for next season, unless the new owners splash the cash hugely.
April 25, 20224 yr I'm not convinced Rudiger will go despite the noise. Though presuming Gallagher and Broja return this will give us more options in attack and midfield and feel like new signings. With Chilwell out and James being injured again we may need to strengthen these areas too. I think the majority of our spending will go on the defence. If Rudiger did go it might us the opportunity to get defenders that could play in back four.
