June 5, 20197 yr I'm assuming he knows Sarri is staying otherwise it would be a strange decision to sign before knowing who the new manager is and if he fancies you.

Doubt it. The lads ruined his heel, he might come back and be absolutely abysmal and no one want him. Sign a big contract while you can.

I would bet there is an element of this, is he comes back and sets the world alight he will still get big offers if he doesn't want to stay, if he is pony and cant run anymore he gets a bit of financial security...

Josh ran a CL away game when he was 17 years old. Many said he was better than Wilshire a that age. Both Carlo and Ballack said they will become the players who we build the team around. Sadly, i later heard their attitudes were bad and they obviously never pushed on. Edited June 5, 20197 yr by Dixons

June 5, 20197 yr Massive if he does. A player I really do feel will become a star for us...although I did feel the same about Traore
June 5, 20197 yr This would be great news. It would make sense for this to be announced after Hazard is confirmed to Madrid, and then give CHO the 10 shirt.

As for CHO, great news if true but will certainly put the pressure on him to perform consistently and that will be a lot of pressure for an 18 year old. All the time we had Hazard, it was no problem but to suddenly go from being a squad player, getting minutes here & there to pretty much your main man and coming back from a bad injury - let's just hope he's up to it.

All that seems to matter here is if the club fancies you. The player will outlast multiple managers on a five year deal.

Players are more important than the manager, and Chelsea have made that an absolute fact. So the manager isn't completely irrelevant, but not as important definitely.

June 5, 20197 yr One advantage to him signing now (if true) is that he can focus on the rehab instead of worrying about whether he can get fit in time for the next transfer window.
June 6, 20197 yr Hazard out of the way and Willian/Pedro over 30yrs he has a chance of a lifetime securing a starting spot in his home club which happens to be one of the biggest in the world. Should be a good choice for him.
June 6, 20197 yr I think 100 grand a week is silly money! (a) We have no idea if he'll make a complete recovery from the injury. (b) He's 18 and at this moment in time, in his Premiership appearances he hasn't really shown much at all so far. I mean, has he actually ever done a decent Premiership defender with a piece of skill yet? I can't remember one. I want 'our own' to make it at Chelsea as much as anyone, but i just think there's too much hype over him.

But that sums up modern football for you - the wages and fees have been obsence for some time and are only going to get worse. I really wanted us to keep hold of CHO when all the Munich rumours started, but due to our current predicament, we are now so desperate that we have little option. Let's just hope all goes well and he does become the next big thing and we'll all look back and be mighty glad that we held on to him. But right now it's a gamble.

Yeah, the wagess are obscene, but at least with proven established players you know what quality you're paying for. As you say, with CHO it's a pure gamble.

Purely from a business perspective compared to peers in other sports, Footballers are incredibly underpaid. 100k a week for someone projected to be a starter in one of the biggest clubs in the world is peanuts on their balance sheet. £5M a year for a club that grossed nearly half a billion and is worth several billion... That's a blip on the balance sheet. 300k per week wouldn't crack the top 50 in baseball https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/rankings/ Or the NBA https://www.spotrac.com/nba/rankings/ Considering the enormous amounts of revenue in the EPL and the international game, footballers are still relatively underpaid. And for a club like Chelsea, £100k a week isn't a gamble. Not really. But I get the point. Relative to his peers in football, that's an awful lot of money.
June 6, 20197 yr No wonder so many mere mortals are talking of depression and mental health these days. People struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table - can only imagine a world of where you are on £100k-£300k a week but be underpaid!!!

June 6, 20197 yr I find it incredible how blase people are over these astronomical sums that certain people get paid these days ("get paid" rather than "earn" ... huge difference ... )

The best players in football (Messi, Ronaldo etc..) are paid similar to the top players in baseball and NBA as you mentioned. You cant compare a younf 18 year old prospect to the sports top earners
