Welcome Ross Barkley

Bit harsh on Loftus Cheek? When he has played this season on the whole i think he has been good.

Barkley has actually made the biggest decisive contribution of the two (his defense splitting cross field pass against Southampton). He also made a difference at Newcastle which earned him a start against Burnley.

I think they're both in a similar boat, they've done relatively well (certainly compared to early season expectations) but are either doing enough in response to Gallagher's statement performances at Palace?

He can still play regularly for a team in the PL. He's not a type of player for a big club, maybe he should return to Everton and help them.

Never suppored the idea of signing him, especially not when Conte did it. Wish him the best of luck!

Disapointed to see it end like this.

I've never rated Ross too highly, didn't think he looked particularly talented at Everton but there are far worse players who regularly get minutes for us.

Thought Barkley probably should have been used more last season he offers something none of our current midfielders do.  The ability to actually score goals.

He ended up scoring the last goal for us under Roman's leadership. Probably his best season for us was under Sarri, but he never really managed to lock down a starting spot (despite having promising games).

Good luck to him though. He should be able to find another Premier League club I would think

Really surprised no-one would take a punt on him ... suspect it was all the stories abut falling out of taxis etc that put people off.  Being a free agent should help him find a new club. Decent enough midfielder. Much better than many we have had ...

Anyone want to bet he has a better season than Gallagher ? 🙂

What I can't work out is that we would have paid him off to terminate his contract. Surely we could have loaned him out until the end of his contract on a 50/50 split of wages.  At least we could have got some of the salary recovered

And most of the media felt his 15mill move was a bargain at the time lol.

Losing only 15 million on him is actually better than many of our transfers ...

Starting with players signed at season 2016/17 or afterwards, we've now seen 11 subsequent departures for a combined loss of £182 million pounds !!!

Big wages for him too make it a bigger less.

He was also injured at the time and needed surgery, it was quite risky. Even though he got back to normal fitness he didn't pull up trees.

He did hit top form at one point though but then was loaned out, could have been different if only for 1 season.

One thing that Ross tried to do was create chances and take risks. He’s still capable of some magical moments. Unfortunately if you take them risks in a big team, they have to come off more often than not.

A move that never quite worked out. Though Ross did always seem to try hard and give his all when he came on.

All the best!

The PL seems littered with these "nearly men". Players who promise a lot but never develop into top players. The list goes on and on and unfortunately CFC seem to have had their fair share of them.

This.

We lost £15m on Ross

We lost more on Timo and Lukaku

We'll lose a lot more on Pulisic, Havertz, Ziyech, Kepa and pretty much everyone else we've signed in the last few years.

Barkley seems like a bargain in comparison.

Never thought Barkley would have been considered a bargain. Once again highlighting some of the dross we signed under the previous regime.

I always thought he was quite talented to be honest, but talent guarantee's nothing. Barkley throughout his career has never looked like he has wanted it enough. He has a few bright moments and then he just seems to stop.

I remember when Sarri arrived and he put in a ton of work to get match fit. He started the season well but then dropped off badly like he always does. It was the same when he went out on loan to Villa. He was instrumental when they smashed Liverpool 7-2, but after a few games, he faded again, got dropped and ended up back with us the next season sitting on the sidelines. His best performance for us was against Liverpool when we knocked them out of the F.A cup. It seems like playing against Liverpool is the only way to motivate him.

A quite capable player with a decent work ethic. He can do a more than decent job for a Premier League side, provided he is never required to think for himself while on the ball. It's a shame he was never picked up by a Guardiola type while young; we saw under Sarri that he's receptive to specific instruction. If only he'd been born five years later...

Best of luck Ross, you did a decent job for us. I have no reason to think you won't do well at your next club.

Where has he gone to?

Exactly how I feel about him Plokkers. No doubt he has a lot of ability but he doesn't quite have the decision making skills to be the next level player he once seemed he might be. Always felt he tried his best whenever he played and wish him all the best.

I think it was a bargain given the amount of appearances he made for us. His performances weren't terrible either, Bakayoko and Drinkwater were way worse
