Welcome Ross Barkley

My main issue with Barkley is he seems like a very selfish player. He always wants to score or take a shot when he can play someone else in. Its his decision making in front of goal as well as his inability to pick the right pass when we have a break, that has always stopped him taking the next step.

If Barkley decision making is top notch, he is a starter for us and England.

Yup has all the other tools but when it comes to that final pass, movement or shot he gets it wrong 9 out 10 and thar simply is not good enough at the top end. It was not even good enough for Villa last season.

With ross it is all about his decision making. Physically he is terrific, balll striking wise he is among the best in our squad, his passing technique is also terrific, but his decision making is just head scratcher. So once in a blue moon when his decision making clicked, you get prime Zidane instead of Ross

Barkley's shooting is normally decent and that first strike from the centre where he curves the ball to the top left of the goal and just misses was a decent effort with the keeper rooted to the spot.

His two other efforts I noticed were poor and his decision making was poor though with one he did give CHO a chance to shoot.

One other thing was as he had the ball on the edge of their box their defenders seemed edgy could not tell what he was going to do, last time I noticed that was when we had Hazard. Now Barkely is nowhere near Hazard's old ability yet if we can find a way to use his presence effectively it might reap some benefits.

Played well yesterday, only real gripe is his tendency to hold onto the ball too long.

It's indicative of why he'll never reach the heights expected of him. When the time comes to make that good decision and/or be clinical, he fails the test far too often.

You swap him out for any good attacking midfielder and that is put on a plate for CHO 9/10. He had two chances to play him in but ended up carrying the ball to the 18 yard - then playing to the right channel. He never once took any stock of CHOs run and firmly kept his gaze on Havertz. And what will always be frustrating is that he has the ability, as much as anyone, to play the perfect ball in this scenario.

I still like the idea of keeping him around the squad though.

He was a snip at 15 mill, went through a bunch of injuries at Everton before we purchased. He's never going to be more than a squad player but he at least has a go at driving at the opposition like Pully-sick can do as well when he is in form & fit. Did ok on Saturday, rather see him on the bench though in EPL matches.

I think he'll be off in January - probably to Newcastle.

Did well to get himself back in the frame, but lack of recent minutes despite injuries to our front line midfielders, and being seemingly behind RLC and Saul in the midfield pecking order is not a good direction for him in terms of his career. Personally I think he offers more than those two, but TT clearly does not agree !

The fact its Newcastle and they are now also a bit desperate we can afford too put the asking price a bit higher.

The same situation is going to happen to us when we look for centre backs next season if we lose both Rudiger and Christensen.

I was hopeful he would rediscover his mercurial form yet his shots were poor and think this is one performance too many where he was not able to produce anything of note.

Doubt Newcastle would be interested think he is heading towards leaving on a free.

Needs a permanent move badly, unlikely to get any better here at Chelsea and just hasn’t got the football brain or speed of thought at this level.

Sometimes I don’t mind Barkley then he gets some minutes on the pitch.

Fixed it for you

I actually agree with your original sentiment but now whenever he gets some minutes it looks like he just tries to much to make an impression so he gets more minutes. Best for both parties if he moves on.

Very funny! Yeah agree that he tries too hard and ends up losing the ball in dangerous positions

Need to clear him and RLC out make room for someone better. When he was signed thought it might have been a bargain but the team plays worse when he is on the field.

Yep, neither Barkley or RLC are good enough and would much prefer to see Conor Gallagher next season.

That bit near the end yesterday where Barkley lost the ball again and the camera switched to TT and the look on his face said it all.

Bit harsh on Loftus Cheek? When he has played this season on the whole i think he has been good.

Not sure why the negative comments, it's not like he gets to play much. He's a decent player but just like a few others he's not the best in this tactic he's a lot more effective when he has more space to work with.
