Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

I dunno, I'm not sure I can see another team sitting so deep against us for such a large portion of a match again this season. Newcastle basically didn't want the ball.

You'd like to think that as the season progresses and the players start understanding and performing better in Sarri's system we'll break down stubborn defences a lot quicker than we did at the weekend which will force teams out a lot sooner than Newcastle were.

Let's be honest, it almost worked for them, I would be surprised if other teams didn't try this tactic.

I don't doubt one or two other teams will attempt something similar but as I said, I would hope that we get better at breaking down deep, stubborn defences the more the team get used to Sarri's system.

I think more often than not, with a team allowing us 80% of possession, we'd be scoring a first half goal forcing the opposition to try and attack us more.

Great analysis on Jorginho.

It highlights just how vital he is to how we play under sarri, and why kante and Jorginho won't change positions. The good far outweighs the bad, he reminds me of busquets so much, dictating everything we do, even without the ball, he is making things happen. Fantastic signing.

I think he will improve defensively when he has adapted to the physicality of the league, and he will be less exposed as the system matures, and kante and kovacic help him out.

Watching that video on Jorginho really exposes my football tactics ignorance.

I've done a couple of coaching badges, but I find it incredibly hard to watch chelsea games live, and analyse tactics at the same time.

Too emotionally invested in the result to pick it apart.

I used to watch most games twice, and it's easier to pick up on the small details during the second watch.

No time for that though nowadays with 2 kids running riot!

are you Stuart Robson in disguised?

I think I've yet to fully appreciate Jorginho. I see him as a new Fabregas in the making. My main concern is that he also has similar weaknesses in defending as seen in our opening matches.

I think we need to give him time to get used to the league and it’s physicality before we can fully judge him.

As I said to my mate on Saturday, we could have Bakayoko playing instead

A lot of praise on this thread so far and agree he has played some solid games up to now.

Thought he was quite poor today, gave the ball away a lot and was quite wasteful (other than some basic passing). Looked really tired from playing Thursday night.

Perhaps team selection needs a re-think when playing two games a week (particularly Europa/Carabao cup games)

disagree, he played some wonderfull balls over the top today, and should have had at least two assists today. By far our best player today IMO

He put in 2 excellent passes that could easily have led to goals, he was central to the dominant play we had for the majority of the game. I can't for the life of me see how you thought he was poor.

I don't understand certain fans' attitude towards today's game, and especially towards Jorginho. We went out with the intention of dominating the game. As our plan intented, we dominated the game - and Jorginho is literally behind every good thing we do. He's the only one who tries (and manages) to move the ball using only one or two touches consistently. Jorginho wasn't, and isn't, the problem - it's the other players who needs to get on his level.

We are Chelsea FC, we should have a plan of dominating 8/10 games we play, and Jorginho is player who can realize that plan. I remember @Dorset writing a post about the "fetch and pass"-player. Every top team (Real, Barca, Juve, Bayern) has one, because it's needed to control the most important thing in a football match - the ball. We should (and luckily most are) revering in the fact that we now can aspire to dominate to their level, not pick at his (in my opinion) few flaws.

And before people berates me and says Jorginho is responsible for our defensive woes - we were crap defensively last year (even worse than now), and that was with five at the back and Kante in front of them. I think we should remember that, before shuffling Jorginho out of his clearly best role, a role I argue is a necessity for a top team in 2018, for Kante.

People are just going with the flow really, Jorginho is probably the best DLP/Metronome midfielder in the world, suggesting that we move him away from his position, a position that he played for the last 3 years, under the same manager, for Kante, who WAS NEVER a DM in the first place, is just ridiculous.

He was immense today, dictated play and put in some wonderful through balls. Just because G Neville highlighted him giving the ball away once or twice doesnt mean he wasent top notch. For every 50 passes hes bound to give it away now and then.

Had Giroud and Hazard converted his excellent lofted passes, he would be receiving a lot more appreciation today. He was our best player by far along with Rudiger imo.

The only person that will berate you is Stuart Robson

Well said

How delightfully refreshing to see someone confess to ignorance.  You are  a ShedEnders  gem @Phillip!  :happy0034:
