June 27, 20197 yr Looks like people here really dont understand the concept of bonuses, his actual price this year Will be a lot less, probably in the 35 M region. Plus, Kovacic is a quality player, and you can never have too many of those
June 27, 20197 yr We sold Hazard for a deal that can be worth up to £150 odd million. We have a transfer ban. It is a no brainer. Similar to Jorginho imo. Because they don't have great stats, it makes them look worse than they are but he is a very talented player. He probably now with Hazard gone is our best dribbler in the team and is brilliant at keeping possession and gliding past players. He just needs to be more effective in final third. He has a lot of room to grow. He was now awful last season, nor was he great but for me we had to buy him. I am a big fan of his like other people. I know people will say it was one game, however that performance he put in against Arsenal in EL final was waiting to happen.
June 27, 20197 yr He's the fcuking definition of bang average...can't believe we are helping Madrid out by giving some of the hazard money back...even Super frank will struggle to make this guy impress in a blue shirt. What worries me is who he will play instead of..again.

What worries me is who he will play instead of..again. Your post is the f**king definition of negativity. He’s not the first player to struggle to produce in his first season at Chelsea/in the PL. I wasn’t extremely impressed with him last season either, but he’s a great dribbler, has passing ability, and puts in solid work defensively. The final third, well, obviously he needs work but hopefully we won’t need him to play as our attacking midfielder with the regime change.

Given the fact that he was played on the left of Sarri's three and expected to produce in the final third as was Barkley who also pretty much failed in that respective i think he could play a role in Franks midfield three, with Kante holding and Ruben given the task of chipping in a few goals we could use his dribbling skills in the middle of the park. Plus he has a year of premier league football under his belt now.
June 27, 20197 yr His only weakness is goal output. If anyone can teach a midfielder how to score, I hope it's our highest goalscoring midfielder Frank Lampard

Signing him is showing a real lowering of expectations for what we want and need as a Chelsea player. The guy is going to be around for years now, stinking the place out like Kalou and Mikel. Oh dear!

Hopefully he proves me wrong next season if he stays... but he hasn't done anything to be a starter.
June 27, 20197 yr If Lampards rates him, happy to see him signed on. We aren't going to play 50+ games next season without reinforcement, so it's a decent decision with the transfer ban in. At his age, I'd like to think there are a couple of levels up he could get to in the next 4-5 years.
June 27, 20197 yr He came to a new league, to a club with a brand new manager and system. And the system started falling apart after a couple of months so it wasn't excactly the easiest of circumstances for Kovacic to perform at his best. He is a top player and was very highly rated at Real Madrid before we got him. Lampard will use him in a more suitable position alongside Kante and they'll form a very solid base in the middle of the park if you ask me.
June 27, 20197 yr Chelsea have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Mateo Kovacic permanently. No confirmation of fee or figures involved yet. Club can sign him even with a transfer ban as he is already registered from his loan period. #cfc Matt Law tweeted... So pretty much done then.

And what were the excuse for his previous season's "efforts" and the one before that? He's 25 years old, not a kid finding his way. This is the kind of player that he is! Oh well, if some of you are you are happy to single out a player and let them get away with a free ride, then that's your choice and you're well on the way to acceptting Chelsea becoming like Arsenal. I just expect way, way more from a Chelsea player! Edited June 27, 20197 yr by Dixons

June 27, 20197 yr Happy to have Kovacic on board. He’s not the goal scoring midfielder we need but he can make the midfield tick. There will be plenty of rotation in midfield in a long season and he knows the other players he Jorginho and Kante will play with more understanding of each other this season. June 27, 20197 yr For a decent price, he adds decent quality to the team. If we can recoup some of what we paid for Drinkwater and Bakayoko, then it's basically a free signing in that regard.
June 27, 20197 yr Happy for him to be joining permanently. Tbh Sarri's style of one touch play didn't necessarily suit him. Much more suited to dribbling with the ball which is weirdly what worked for him in the final (which was far and away his best game). I think Frank can make a very good player out of him. Probably in a shuttling role between Kante and Ruben in a 4-3-3 or as a partner for Kante in a 4-2-3-1. Looking forward to seeing his full potential.

Willian is a winger, so of course we expect goals and assists. We should not be expecting the same from Kovacic, it’s part of the reason so many don’t rate him. Nobody should have expected him to produce in the final third, he’s never done it.

Well According to Wiki he scored 3 goals in his time as Real, and the season previous he got a massive 8 goals in one season for Inter (watch out Frank your records under threat). He's got more Champions League wins than 99% of clubs, he won Croatian Football Hope of the Year 2011 what more do you want, £50 million is a steal.
June 27, 20197 yr I just wish he took control of games and had more aggression and passion, we watched him play all season and did pretty much nothing of note, he really needs to up his game rather than just let his football life pass him by with ease.

There's plenty of players in his posiion who score & create goals, or at least try. We even have two in our squad. As a fan, you and others are entitled to want him to stay, just as i'm entitled to think that after having a good look at him, to then go and sign him is the worst transfer deal we've ever made! So,lets sit back and watch our midfield score 6 goals (one a penalty) and go and put the blame on ohers.
June 27, 20197 yr Here in Croatia, he is always considered very talented but he simply dont deliver... And that story is constantly repeated. I followed him through his entire career. In Dinamo, he was very good, exceptional talent. I even played against him ? In Inter, he was very good with ball, had some amazing runs through midfield. But after he joined Real, it seems like he lost all of his confidence and he just constantly dissapoints, even when playing in national team. Second half against arsenal in baku, he was very good. If he can play like that on regular basis, this will be steal. My opinion is that this transfer is mistake, he is fourth option in midfield (after kante, RLC and jorginho). Lamps, if appointed, should give Mount chance until RLC returns. I hope that he will prove me wrong. Only positive i see from this transfer is that he can play in Jorginho role, better than any other our midfielder.

I read it was early 2017. 8 goals for Inter was fine, but that was years ago and only shows how much he regressed since then.
