That would be some turn around from one the most demanding owners on world football.

What would happen if we have a really poor season, finishing lower than 6th? How would the fans take that?

Would Lampard get sacked after 12 months?

Would we stick with the young players hoping they will improve?

Lampard seems like a massive gamble to me.  I know all managers are a risk to some degree, but combining an inexperienced manager with a mix of decling and inexperienced players seems like a recipe for disaster.

If we don't appeal the ban, then we are clearly sacrificing the season in terms of result for being in a better position in August 2020.
I don't think the squad is good enough to get top 4 no matter what manager we have and i actually believe the club sees that and would go with Lampard because they believe he would have us in a good place before the 20/21 season.

It's a risk, as every appointment is but i have faith in Lampard.

I was really hoping to see what Sarri could do with Chelsea. Honestly, I can't blame him too much if he does indeed want to go somewhere. The way he was treated at SB a few times was embarrassing really. Chanting "F*CK SARRIBALL" was incredibly cringeworthy. Sarri definitely had moments that made me scratch my head and wonder what the heck was going on. But, IMO, the board should have been aware that this was a project and it wasn't going to be all roses immediately. I also think how well we started the season was awesome but also not good for him in the same sense, if that makes sense.

Idk, I hope that the reports aren't true, as I want to see what he can do, but maybe he will be properly backed at Juve. If we do move forward, I hope we go get Frank and we support him and we allow him to do what needs to be done. Otherwise, what are we doing? We are going in circles

He said he liked managing in the PL, but who knows how he really felt being out of Italy for the first time.  We don't know what his family life was like, and whether he may have just felt homesick.  I think the above is likely.  If you don't feel appreciated, knowing that the supporters have a habit of singing the names of other managers, but not yours, you wonder why he want to stay around when neither the club nor supporters appreciate what he's trying to do.

I'm happy with this news. Next season will be a transitional one for us so it's a great time to bring in a new manager to get comfortable with the club before they're able to compete. Sarri didn't deserve all the criticism he got here, but it was clearly never going to work out at Chelsea. This benefits both sides.

I don’t mind Sarri going, it’s felt like a real struggle this year and the football has been awful.

I hope it is not Lampard, he needs more time and with our current situation, we need someone who can get the best of the current squad. I feel Lampard would be too much of a risk. I would rather go fro Allegri who is a proven winner.

Yes Allegri would be my choice.

lampard needs more experience to manage a team like us.

God No!

I suspect Sarri feels he will only get two seasons maximum out of Chelsea whatever happens, so he might as well go out on the high of the Europa League Final. It's pretty clear hardly anyone sees him as a long-term option now even with Wednesday's victory. "He has earned another Season" seems to be the general mood on here which is hardly a ringing endorsement. It's probably a shrewd move from him, a move to a big club back home and out of the Chelsea nut-house.

The worst most destructive thing to happen to Chelsea since Roman took over and it will be the fans fault.

Mark my words, losing Sarri at this time will mean we are sacrificing our status as a big club.

Enjoy the champions League next year. We are going to fade over the next 5 years and won't experience it again for a while.

f**king stupid idiots still thinking we are going to get Allegri in, or sarris football wasnt good enough for Chelsea.

Not sure how I can face next season.

How is it the fans fault? The man didn't lift as much as a finger to endear or build some kind of relationship with the fans from he got the job until he left.

Dedicating last nights title to the Napoli-fans instead of even acknowledging the traveling supporters for example was very descriptive of the man.

He himself have made the choice to leave after he was so desperate to come here just 11 months ago. Weak move and i question his commitment to the cause when you jump ship for the first new and shiny opportunity you get.

Bloody hell, if we get him Lampard is nowhere near ready for this job. We could be swapping 30 years of experience and a European trophy winning manager for someone with 1 year in the job. No idea who we could appoint, as Sarri was perfect for this time period anyway, to rebuild. Mourinho might ruin his legacy but at least would be exciting! (in pressers)

This is precisely why I won’t be believing anything any Sky PL or Sky Italia pages post. 99% of it is utter sh*te and they just make things up to get traffic on their sites. It might be true but it’s laughable two different parts of the same company are reporting the complete opposite things on the same day.

I was Sarri out for a lot of the season. He’s gradually changed my mind and I’ve said already he deserves the second season. Especially after the EL final. Big game and he came up with the goods. An improvement in the second half instead of getting worse was a good sign as well. I’ll be a little disappointed if he goes this summer now as I feel he should at least do a second season and see if he can really prove myself and others completely wrong, but if he decides he wants to manage in Italy again then I wish him nothing but the best & thank you for another trophy.

Who knows, maybe it’s the whole transfer ban that has put him off, can’t massively blame him. It is a bit of a disaster. I suspect the club know they will lose if they appeal and that’s why we’ve not lodged one with CAS.

No it won’t.

Well let's see. I can't see how a new manager, especially the ones touted, take this team into the top 4 next year. I can see how we would go backwards.

We already have an owner who doesn't show up and a ground falling apart. No reason we should be a big club when we can't keep a world class manager.

What? The fans turned on him extremely quickly, it's clear we needed time and there was no indication we would give him that.

Why do fans need their bellys rubbed by the manager. Grow up.

He has left because the fans don't want him here and because the owners have reacted by not backing him. He should have been offered a big contract pay rise the day we got into the top 4 by beating Watford.

Lampard is the natural progression if we want attacking football. Allegri would be a step backwards, we’d be as well appointing Mourinho again.

I would have preferred Lampard to get more experience before coming back to manage us but if Sarri walks, I don’t think too many top attacking coaches will be lining up to manage a club with a two window transfer ban and their best player leaving.

He deserves another 3 years. Not the second season you are handing him.

Why stay when one of the biggest clubs in Europe are after you and a fading giant has half its fans wanting him sacked and the other half think he deserves a paltry extra 12 months

Alright Mystic Meg. No one knows what will happen next season, that’s just a very doom and gloom view to take on how we will do next season. We were 10th under one of the best managers in the world? Things don’t always work out how they should on paper. For any of us know, Lampard for example could win us the league in his first season.

The bold;

talk about melodramatic, the ground is not falling apart, Jesus.

Abramovich reasons for absence have been well documented on this site and many news sources. He was at the final and looked over the moon as always and as invested in chelsea as he has been in the past.

Based on what exactly? A third place finish and a EL? That automatically qualifies him for 3 more years? Much more successful managers than that have got the bullet much quicker. If we finished 10th for the next 2 years, you think he’d still deserve the 3rd because of what he achieved this season (which would be 3 years prior in this scenario) that’s ludicrous. Managers are assessed on an annual basis for the most part, that’s a simple fact of the job.
