Remember when we got absolutely ruined by City last season? And that turned out okay... keep the faith people!!

That was like in January or Feburary latest? We're at the end of the season now, the Sheffield result has f**ked it massively, not enough games left to rectify it.

Some things are worth waiting for, you can’t re build a team of players with varying degrees of talent, experience etc and blend in 3-4 academy players in 1 season. It takes time which nowadays seems to be a problem to many people in all walks of life, instant gratification doesn’t work in football.  Lampards success will ultimately rest with the Board, if he’s backed this summer and the main problem players are replaced then I think he’s the man to lead the re build and bring back trophies. If only these ‘sexy’ attackers are signed with no defensive improvements then he’ll flounder pretty quickly next season. So we’ve got to be a bit patient get through the season and the cup tie in Munich and after the season ends hope RA is going to back Frank in the market.

f**k off with your negativity dude. We had a bad performance at an unideal time, unfortunately it can happen. The club is already making changes - look at the signings we’ve already made.

Chelsea is on the rise, it’s an awesome time to be a fan, and let’s enjoy the ride.

So we're going to win our last 3 games after that performance? Okay, sorry for not being delusional.

Well as a fan, I certainly hope so. But now doubly I do, just so you can quit your f**king crying. Let’s see what happens.

Nobody is crying, the only person being emotional here is you. We lost a very important game, and we have 2 very tricky fixtures in our last 3. Very doubtful we get top 4 after losing to Sheffield, everyone was saying this before the match, and it's still the same now.

You sound a bit sensitive.

I’m quite literally doing the opposite of that.

So every team have the best/starting 11.. I feel like we are the only team of all top 5 leagues (Talking about top 4 or top 6 teams for every league) that dont know its best 11.. We dont have some "standard" formation like almost every other top club have. You can say rotation is key... But as i see in all top clubs (not PL only), they dont rotate that much like we do. Every second game totally different formation or 3 to even 5 player changes.. This is not good as someone thinks.. You need to have standard front 3, middle 3 and back 4. Play with them, train them, know your weaknesses, adapt and play to your strenghts. Train them to play better in that formation. What you as a coach are saying to players when you have only few standard starters... All others can work as hard as they want and thats it because team selection depends on one game performance (one good game you are in) or even worse on which side of a bed Lampard has woke up that morning. Whole season is comming to the end but still dont have standard formation and best 11. Lampard did great job this season but to be on top he need to sort some essencial and fundemental things like that asap.

Sorry for mistakes, English isnt my native language.

Frank has exceeded all expectations this season, especially losing Hazard and being unable to purchase new players.

However, he is clearly struggling to set up our team defensively and he clearly needs help with this. It is also alarming how players like Abraham are being selected over Giroud who is lightyears more effective when on the pitch.

Overall, it has been a very positive season in charge however there are clear areas of improvement and I have confidence he can work on these.  Our signings for next season thus far have been impeccable and we must get into the Champions League. It is where we belong.

We need to hire Sheffield Utd's defensive coaches. They seem to know what they're doing.

Hope we manage to win the last few games. 4th is in our hands

I refuse to believe fixing our defense is as simple as people suggest. We defend as a unit and every player is part of it. If we were masters of pressing, something like Barcelona 2009, we can live with Christensen and Zouma as our CB pair. Even the fact we have now Werner and Ziyech might have changed it better for us.

Most of all we need a system and time. I am not 100% we can do either. Frank is such a young manager it is hard to say he has a system that he knows will work.

In second we need players that fit the system. I think we have enough quality in most parts of the pitch to go and win things if they system is good.

This season if we scored with a better rate from our good/great chances we'd be safe for CL easily. Finishing is part of defending.

Pep's teams have always been very sh*te at defending when teams go past their press and at corners. They just usually kill the games before the opponent even has a sniff of looking at their goal.

Klopp's early Liverpool was sh*te at defending. Their demanding style of pressing was failing and their quality for that style wasn't there. They used a couple of seasons and couple hundred millions to fix everything.

I personally feel Frank is the man to get us to challenging titles. We need some patience, money and some luck as did his colleagues at City and Liverpool.

Brilliant post, Ive always thought the defence is the hardest part of a team to get right as its all about the system and you need total buy in from the players. Often an attack can be built around individuals and getting the best out of them, while the whole defensive process needs looked at. It amazes me to see people calling for Lampard to leave (though on here thankfully its just a couple of idiots) so soon after pretty much everyone said getting top 4 would a success early this season.

I think because we aren't 'killing teams off' as such it gives them the confidence to know they can get back in the game, and then we usually concede or give away a free kick/corner.

With Werner and Ziyech, along with a couple of other quality additions, we will be a decent force next season and will alleviate the anxiety we have at the back, which cause the panic and ill decisions. We need to replace Kepa as well with a keeper that is far more commanding in the box, for all of us who have played the game in some manner, having a confident and strong keeper makes the world of difference no matter the level you play at.

The fact that Benteke and McGoldrick scored against us says it all really.

We really need to get something out of the Liverpool game at the very least. A draw would be a great result, as long as we beat Norwich. It’s doable, we’ve matched up against Liverpool pretty well this season so I think we have a chance.

Hopefully Leicester and Wolves will continue to drop points.

Can't believe City have won the appeal.

We'll struggle to get CL now.

Is Kante out for long? Is it a coincidence we lose by three with Jorginho starting?

I think Leicester are really going to struggle with games against Sheffield, Spurs & United to come, if there is any team in worse form than us fortunately for us it's Leicester. I don't think Man U will win all their games either so I don't think we will miss out on CL football, Once Kante & Kova are back they should give us that industry in midfield which should alleviate that pressure off our defense.

I think Lampard needs to stop overthinking certain elements of the game and look to lock in our most important and in form players into our starting 11. I feel as though Kova seems to be missing out due to Barkley's attacking ability even though Kova is the better player overall.

The following players I would have in our starting lineup regardless considering they are fit:

Kova

Kante

Zouma

Giroud

Azpi

Pulisic

Willian

The other 4 spots are up for grabs & based on current form of our squad it doesnt make much difference who plays, Kova & Kante offer us more defensively and Zouma is our most in form CB.

And after that performance, we’ve still remained in 3rd place. That’s why I said let’s see what happens. It’s nice to control your own destiny, but letting the other teams f**k it up works too.

I know, but keep in mind, we still have Liverpool away, and Wolves. After how badly we played against Sheffield, I'm not 100% confident we win either of those games. We scraped through Palace, we were terrible against West Ham. I'm not downplaying the side by any means, but I'm not going to get into blind optimism just because people don't like negativity. I'm trying to be realistic.

I'm absolutely buzzing with that Bournemouth result most of all, I still think United will finish above us, they have the easier fixtures. It's Leicester we need to finish above, we finish above Leicester and we're in the top 4, it's as simple as that. I never expected that Bournemouth result at all, because I thought they actually looked good against Arsenal. But after that Bournemouth result there is hope.

Still, the way you engaged with me was still unnecessary, even if you think I'm being negative, you came across a lot more emotional than I did.

I just think there’s a difference between being realistic vs. questioning the vision for the club and completely writing off our top 4 chances. At least wait until the games in hand are played.

Yes we have some tough fixtures to finish up the season here, but we go into them with a slight points lead and Leicester are in awful form with a harder run in. No doubt that Bournemouth did us a favor there though, I am buzzing as well. Quite honestly could see Leicester only pulling a point or two from their last 3 games.

I’m just saying, things aren’t nearly as bad as you said and let’s let it play out, that’s all. If my hope and positivity is viewed as emotional, then so be it.

I'll admit I went a bit over the top with the "not enough time to rectify it" comment, but f**k me, people have said way worse on here. If you want to see negativity just go look at the matchday thread after the Sheffield result, people were saying Ole is doing a great job and Lampard is sh*t etc. I've never said anything on that level, I think Frank has done a great job.

I just never expected Leicester to bottle that match and United to bottle Southampton in the space of two days, that's crazy and I'm delighted, it's gave us another chance. I think we'll beat Norwich, but those last two fixtures are really difficult, Liverpool are not going to take it easy on us, we'll have to pull one out the bag like we did against City again.

It's a top 4 race, you have to expect teams to f**k up.

If united were capable of winning 6 or 7 games in a row, they wouldn't be fighting with us for 4th spot in the league.

Last night's result was huge for us. It means united and Leicester will be a competitive game. I genuinely think 63 points might be enough for top 4.

I agree. I think if we win tonight we’ll get 4th. Although I’m more confident about the Liverpool game than I am about the game tonight.

This is a concern for me, if united win their next 2, which is quite possible, They could already have top 4 sewn up before the leicester game, and i can see them fielding a weakened side, especially if they get to the fa cup final.

Really could do with another united slip up, just to keep them honest for that last game.

A whole year has passed and the same problems as day 1 are still evident.

He insists and persists on his fetish players that he never attacked or despised as he did with some heavyweights, with more or less reason, but blaming them for some mistakes when he was never able to make a dignified self-criticism or correct his multiples and constant errors.

He was brave and showed personality by adopting an offensive and risky style of play.
By betting on young people.

But a whole year went by without being able to define a game system, a stable and effective midfield, not even a pair of CB.

We have the defensive organization at the level of an amateur team, because he does not know how to work, he was not able to have the humility or wisdom to know that more than anything else he needed an excellent number 2 to do this for him.

He did not and continues without doing, without any sign that he wants to do so, he continues to blame players for mistakes and look for attacking players in the market ...

It was a difficult year, with few desirable coaches attainable, but now the reality is different.

Chelsea is back on the market, has conditions to get up, but for that it needs a GREAT coach.
Someone with studies, knowledge, capable.

Frank will always be a benchmark as a club player.
As a club player.
Who already hung up his boots.
If you want to play as a coach, where you have to score 4 goals to be able to win a game, because a corner for the opposing team is half a goal for example to go to a division corresponding to your capacity.

There will be plenty of clubs that will be happy to have an ex-glory of the lawns providing games with 5 or 6 goals while having about 10 beers between friends.

But his place is not here.

Whatever happens, every day that passes without solving this big problem, will be a step back for this club.

It is never a good idea to put "glory" as a coach.
It never was, it never will be, it rarely works.

We need a coach.

If I have to say a name.
Nagelsmann.

For all the reasons and some more (Werner).
