I had a fuzzy, low quality steam that was stop start and watched from the Barkley pen onwards, and missed about 10 minutes of the second half so caught two thirds of the game pretty much. From what I saw Barkley is the one who provided the key passes and the two behind him where doing the usual. There were some nice bits of one touch play which must have involved them but again, it seemed to me like the midfield was being easily bypassed when Salzburg came forward and they were chasing shadows, fouling to try to cope. Neither seem to have any real defensive instincts. Maybe I'll see what it is they did that so thoroughly impressed so many in any extended highlights. Edited July 31, 20196 yr by GhostOfDembaBa

Why were you showing disappointment and grief towards those days?
August 1, 20196 yr I think kova and Barkley have looked commanding, and Pulasic certainly knows where the goal is which we will need. Defence not great but Luiz is always half arsed when it doesn’t matter and to be fair a corner a pen and a fumble goal we weren’t getting ripped open, I think we can work it out especially when Rudi is back and kante infront of them. I think when RLC and Calum are back and we have our first 11 all fit we won’t be much weaker that last season even without hazard. We deffo need a goal scorer but I have a feeling Bats and Tammy will come through with some goals, if they give us 10 each and whatever Giroud chips in with no reason we won’t be challenging for top 4.
August 1, 20196 yr We have conceded a lot of set piece goals already this season. This is something that should be fixable with the right coaching, but it’s unacceptable.
August 1, 20196 yr We need to find a better striker. If the team performed as well as they did today prior to the conceded goals, we should reach top 4 or thereabouts. We'd be a more formidable team if Hazard was still here ? Can't wait till Rudi, Kante, RLC and Callum is back to full fitness. RLC and Barkley can rotate depending on tactics and opposition. Pulisic and Kovacic needs more training in finishing. If Pulisic can regularly put in these kinds of performances regularly then with CHO, we'll have two potential world class wingers in the making. I can't believe Haller went to the Spammers. I think he'd be a massive boost to our frontline.
August 1, 20196 yr Really enjoyed the 1st half great stream thanks Zeta ! Missed a lot of 2nd With one friendly left Its time the defense gets a lot of work at wherever the training camp is. Not convinced by Zouma - is he over trying / in his head or not up to snuff. If he starts next time he must be the current choice for CB with SSB likely. Middle of the park seems to have found some form & function tactically wise. Although there was a storm of Red Bull pressing initially that was in fairness suffered & weathered as CFC can do so well sometimes. Up front is clearly where the squad is lacking, in particular that quality guaranteed goalscorer player (1 or 2) up top. But you never know how that will pan out as the fixtures come on thick & fast. Loving the free flowing scoring and the goals have been spread throughout the squad which is a promising sign. Roll on the Scum United. Edited August 1, 20196 yr by General

August 1, 20196 yr I'm still very suspicious of David Luiz defensively, and I feel that he could cost us a lot this season. Great performance from Barkley and Pulisic though.
August 1, 20196 yr Pulisic showing the sort of movement and finishing that makes me have faith he can become a 10-15 goals a season winger. Needs to be a little bit stronger on the ball though. Kovacic i thought was great, dont realky understand any criticism of his perfomance. Fantastic at getting out of tight spaces, and played a lovely weighted through ball that lead to the penalty. Barkley was outstanding, i am not a fan of Barkley, but he has played his way into that number 10 role ahead of mount. Superb vision and execution of passes. Great work rate. Emerson put in a solid performance, best defender on the pitch. Luiz was poor though, too casual in possession, he was getting nutmegged, and caught out of position, and was beaten for the 1st goal. Needs to step it up. I think he has better chemistry with Christiansen than zouma though, although that may change the more they play together. Overall it was a good performance, some of quick passing to play through the press and then get at their defence was fantastic. It looked more like 'sarriball', than 'sarriball'.
August 1, 20196 yr Rudigier can hit a long pass, the main thing luiz has going for him these days. Christensen and rudigier might work.
August 1, 20196 yr Luiz is again leading too much. You can see he is very excited about new young players so he tries to show too much of his skills. I think he will mellow down a bit when points are on the line. He only needs to do the basics.

I wasn't trying to be a smart arse I couldn’t work out of you liked it or not haha, well I liked it too, what would be fantastic is attractive attacking football with a Chelsea style gritty defence, sort of like a Juventus ?

August 2, 20196 yr It's great to see. The kind of frenetic pressing when a player loses the ball, there's a real hunger in the players the way they're playing. Hopefully they're rotated well enough to not be burnt out too early in the season.
August 3, 20196 yr Hoping for a clean-sheet today. Need to stop leaking goals and this is the last game before things get serious.
