Mason Mount

Featured Replies

Honestly not sure what happened to him. I wonder if this is another case of a player not playing well because their mind is on the contract not settled yet. If so, he needs to have hard look at himself in the mirror and the badge he is playing for.

Been a year now of poor form. With Nkunku already signed and Felix coming in and impressing, i do genuinely wonder what’s happening behind the scenes.

He isn`t that young anymore. 24 years old. Played more than 200 games for Chelsea and England.

I feel like we’re entering the End Game for Mount now, has been poor for so long, such a shame it hasn’t materialised; if he was a no-name foreign player we’d all be fresh out of chances at this stage.

You do have to wonder if the contract talks being on hold gives indication the board are exploring the notion of selling him.

Felix and Nkunku coming in creates an interesting decision for them.

I doubt Potter wants him sold, after all, he has the most games under him despite his poor form. However, I definitely think he doesn't have the power in the negotiations of his contract anymore after recent performances and that might be affecting his performances. He is probably regretting turning down what the club offered initially.

Think it goes beyond Potter now with the way we are currently run. Vivell, Stewart, etc all are involved now (as it should be imo).

With Nkunku signed, Felix impressing, and Mount continuing to regress with his contract at the 2 year mark, you do have to wonder what is happening behind the scenes. Especially if we do invest heavily in the midfield which restricts Mount’s influence even more considering at his best he always served as that ‘link’ under Tuchel.

He needs to wake up, Kai while missing chances is at the very least trying and winning back possession.

To say Mount isn't trying is just nonsense, his pressing game was fine, it was the quality on the ball that was the issue. I also don't think Havertz is the player to look up to when it comes to raising your performance levels. Havertz did more wrong than miss a few chances. His decision making was slow and his passing had the usual under hit feel about them. For me, both Havertz and Mount have issues in the same area, quality on the ball and decision making.

Mount is a good player and there's nothing wrong with him being a squad player in the future.

I don't think he's a player to build a team around, it's as simple as that really. He doesn't need to be a nailed on starter every game and he doesn't need to be sold.

He was never the person you build a team around, he’s not a game changer you build teams around game changers and match winners.

Absolute nonsense being piled on this forum today on mount.. ziyech overshot and under hit almost every ball.. failed to take on a single player.. Havertz didn’t won a single ball in the air or threaten .. consistently played meek passes..

mount didn’t have a great one but was better than all three of the attackers out there..seem people on here have an agenda and at this moment it seems they care more about proving themselves right.. logic and club be damned..

So you missed the Ziyech run where he just shot over then, that just didn’t happen then?

that alone was more than what mount has done for as long as I can remember.

I think some are being overly harsh, especially when they say he isn't trying, that is just bullsh*t, but I do think he was the weakest of our attackers today. I think you're being harsh on Ziyech just as much as some are being harsh on Mount though. I thought Ziyech in the first half was really good, he put in some really good crosses, almost had an assist for Badiashile and almost scored a great goal in the second half with his dribbling run into the Liverpool box.

Ziyech beat about 4 players in one move? Also put one on a plate for Mudryk and Badiashille.

Havertz won loads of duels, and won the ball high up the pitch a few times in the first half.

No need to talk down other players to defend Mount, who had another really quiet game.

It will probably do Mount good to have some responsibility taken from his shoulders, maybe see him play with more freedom again.

It looked like that, even his pressing looked average this match I mean he simply never showed up today. I was counting on him to score actually but he did nothing in the final third.

Whatever is happening behind the scenes they all need to get it done because maybe that's the reason why he has been a bit off lately. Let him focus on football.

There's been some awful agendas against Mount in the past but now I feel it's going well too far the other way to the point even constructive critisism is getting labelled as such.

That’s possibly the case, but I don’t think that people saying he’s not trying or that he needs to be moved on is constructive. He’s not at his best, true, and I think that he needs some time on the bench if only to get some rest (he’s probably one of the players with more minutes on his legs in the last few seasons, with Club and country). But, he’s a player that we need because of his high energy press and intensity. He also has top quality technique as he showed when we won the CL.

He has been linked to a summer move to Liverpool. Despite his form such a transfer would generate a lot of cash.

Not that I want it to happen but I could easily seem the club recouping 160mill plus if qe sold Havertz, Gallagher and Mount.

I think he lacks consistent quality to constantly play in attacking positions.

But he does have good attributes to keep around which he brings with the goals and assists. I definitely wouldn't sell him as some are suggesting, he's a good personality, always tries his best, and has some strong elements to his game. I just think we need better than him in the positions that he plays in.

But in this new age of football, rotation is key, so that doesn't mean make him a bench warmer.

Oh for sure, I’ve held my tongue for a long time personally and always despised those clear agendas against him. Now it’s swinging the other way, as Mount represents proper Chels in the same vein as Reece and wanting him to succeed against the reality we’re faced with now after prolonged mediocrity is a hard pill to swallow.

Assuming we revamp the midfield further.. there is no place for Mount to ‘just’ be a squad player on a 250/275pw deal, big decision ahead for the board.

It’s Gallagher not Mount who would be perfect for Liverpool, hopefully they don’t realise it and we can ship him off to Palace instead; if he is to be sold.

This is precisely what I believe is the talking point upstairs. Nkunku and Felix on board at CAM/CF. Presumably Caicedo and hopefully Enzo at CM (in an ideal world).

This leaves Mount as an option on the bench given his form this past year. For common ground to be met, Mount and his team need to accept the reality they are in.
