December 6, 20196 yr Mitrovic has 15 goals so far, he's strong and a good finisher, a decent anchor as well. In the past he had some discipline issues, now he's a bit more older so I'm guessing he isn't getting red cards anymore. Could be a good signing, but I still prefer Moussa Dembele.

If anything that's probably underpaying for a player of that quality. €10m/yr wages will only make sense on a 1yr + further year ala Giroud, he is 32yrs and a gamble. Still think we are better off going the route of a Mitrovic, or a Jimenez or dare I say Ings in the summer.
December 6, 20196 yr Really strong statement from the club. Read point 1 regarding Man City. Ouch. Unusual for clubs to call each other out publicly

While I can't imagine we'd see prime Cavani he won't be the absolute liability Michy is when starting games. I actually want Morelos as the long term option but he won't be available in January which makes Cavani for the short run all the more appealing.
December 6, 20196 yr What about Haaland? If true his release is 20 Mil. As to Frank with a 2nd striker, I don't see why is 4-2-3-1 couldn't become a 4-1-3-2 at times. I mean even Sarri has played a 4-3-1-2 this season to open up two strikers. As well he's left footed and young, I could see him playing a role on the right in a 4-3-3
December 6, 20196 yr I don't want us to go mad just because we can now sign players again. The players that have come in have done a great job up until now. So far this season, there has only been one time I have been worried when a player has got injured, and that was when Abraham got hurt against Valencia. Every other injury we have had this season I haven't been too worried about because we have had good enough cover, but I was really worried when Abraham went off injured. For me, we need a better back up striker. I wouldn't mind if we sold both Batshuayi and Giroud at this point. We need an experienced head and somebody that can come off the bench and fill in comfortably if Abraham get's injured. I would also prefer that player to be a more dominant type of player, somebody a bit different than Abraham. I would hold off on a CB, LB and the winger for now. I don't think we can sign anything but stop gaps for those positions in January, so I would rather we saved the money for the summer. It will be pretty much impossible to convince a club to sell their top players in these positions half way through the season.
December 6, 20196 yr Cavani short term is the ideal solution, wages dont matter specially if Giroud and Batman leave. Would be great competition for Tammy and has loads of experience. I dont really want Chelsea to splash the cash unless the right player comes available that Frank wants.

For me it would be a world class CB, preferably Koulibaly. The situation at Napoli is quite bad, and Di Laurentiis already spoke about the fact that he would have to let go of Koulibaly sooner or later. Furthermore, I would wait for a left back until the summer. Alaba has told multiple journalists he would be interested in a new challenge. Lastly, I would love to see either Sancho or Werner. Sancho because, well.. no explanation needed I think. Werner brings goals and can play on the right wing and as a striker. Therefore I would prefer Werner. If we go and get Sancho and keep one of the strikers, it could be a little overcrowded. Out: Giroud, Batsman, Barkley, Drinkwater, Alonso, Christensen or Zouma. In: Koulibaly, Alaba and Werner. Also: fill the squad with players like Maatsen, Gallagher and Gilmour. Yeah, I think it would make sense to buy a Richarlison type who plays both wide and through the middle to cover bother spots, maybe one reason why Zaha is of interest. Would Koulibaly worth the price at his age...?

If we do sign someone, say Sancho, I feel it would be a similar situation to Pulisic last season; a purchase and an immediate loan back to the club until the summer. The whole point of doing that with Pulisic is so we’d have his registration before the ban on registering players kicked in. May as well just agree transfers to start in the summer if we don’t want them/they won’t come in January. 3 hours ago, abramovich said: It's not our wallet, so keep your dirty hands off it. In Soviet Russia it would be our wallet.
December 6, 20196 yr A striker is a must for me. I wouldn't want a back up for Abraham, I would want someone to compete with Tammy, otherwise we might as well keep Bats. If we want to keep up the challenge of getting in the top 4 then we need a similar level to Tammy if he's injured or needs a rest. As far as other positions, I would love Chilwell but if we was to get him I doubt if it could happen in January, we should stick to whoever our transfer targets are and wait until summer if we have to.

If that was the official response from the club I'm not so sure it was a wise one to be honest. If CAS have ruled in our favour we should leave it at that and move on. Stirring the Fifa hornets nest with a reply like that could come back to bite us in the arse. I have mixed feelings about the lifting of the ban. Some squad changes are needed but nothing major please, especially not in the January window. The current side have exceeded my expectations so far this season so let's not upset the applecart too much. I have every confidence in Frank to keep a cool head and make the right decisions.

Anyone who thinks we'll now suddenly get rid of Mount etc to find replicas are just finding an excuse to moan for the sake of it. Lol finished by saying "seriously I hope we use the market wisely, if at all" Meaning the first part was a joke... Seeing our young players thrive this season has been quite special. Hopefully we augment that with a few quality signings. We are rather hit and miss on delivering those.

If there is a harder working, in-your-face, leave it all on the pitch forward in European football at the moment, I haven't seen him. Would kill his own granny to score a goal. Absolutely ripped the arse-hole out of Luiz last week. Reminds me big time of David Speedie.
December 7, 20196 yr We shouldn't be looking for back ups, we should be looking for someone to compete with Tammy, preferably someone who can double up as a winger. The West Ham game shows how fragile we still are up top, one long injury to Tammy and we're back shuffling between two strikers who don't cut it and false 9. Pukki or Mitrovic would just be another Ba level player, at best. We need to try and find whoever the current day version of Hoffenheims Firminho is (ie very good with scope to develop into a beast) and target them. Edited December 7, 20196 yr by Argo

A quality back up can make a lot of difference. Especially if he offers a completely different style to your Plan A striker.

Especially if he offers a completely different style to your Plan A striker. Moussa Dembele and Alfredo Morelos look two strikers who are attainable and have scope to grow into top players. Beyond that our scouts who are payed to watch games daily should be able to find some players of similar ilk, ten years ago I'd have been able to offer a wide range of potential targets as I use to watch atleast 6/7 games a weekend but not any more.
December 7, 20196 yr Some good players have arrived in January. Anelka springs to mind immediately. You want a world class player you generally pay a world class price and the currency is well down on its peak. Ousama dembele might fit that description but Barca won’t sell. ‘A striker that could really do Tammy’s job instead of bench warming is important. We all have our favorites but if fit I think Memphis Depay would suit the style and could equally play wide. Lyon are having a crap season and might listen to a good offer. a classy left back would be great. Mostly playing a back 4 defence is as important as attack in the full backs. Dave is playing on the left because he can defend not because he can attack.

December 7, 20196 yr I think we need to buy quality if we we buy. Someone who puts pressure on Tammy immediately. Left back position is not very hard to full although I think Emerson is very good there. Just not recovered from injury and his form is off.
