Well this is something of a howler. Lampard got three big things wrong today.

First sticking to a wing back formation when we had no wing backs available for selection.

Second giving Odoi a pity start.

Third not correcting his second howler until deep into the second half.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record I'd be looking to cash in on Odoi if he has much value left. I'd wager my promise from Bewitched that he will never be anything more than a bottom six footballer. In terms of technical ability and effort I see nothing on him to get remotely excited about. We have Willian, Mount, Pulisic, Pedro and Odoi. Odoi is last pick from that five as far as I'm concerned. I doubt we will see much of him over the course of the season.

However wasn't just him today. Only really Mount looked remotely near his best. We've been outplayed by an average team who showed up happy to get a draw before we made it easy for them to turn that into a win.

Agree with a lot of that but sell Odoi? Behave.

f**k me, as proud as I was of the boys against Spurs they all need to be docked their wages today for ruining our Christmas. f**king shocking. Too many average teams are coming to The Bridge, rolling their sleeves up, putting in a shift and leaving with an easy 3 points.

Whole Defence - all over the place with neither full-back having the ability to deliver a decent ball into the box

Kante & Jorginhp - both poor

Willian - back to the frustrating player we know so well

Tammy - tried but kept falling over and spent more time on his arse

CHO - starting to get VERY concerned. Offers almost nothing and looks lightweiht and disinterested

Mount probably the only player who at least looked like he was trying.

Hope Lamps and Jody give them a severe bollocking and we see a massive improvement Sunday v the gooners 'cos today undid a lot of the good from the Spurs game.

You did well, took your chances and won fair and square. Maybe in hindsight we shouldn't be playing a 5 man at the back against your team...

Dont matter. We played back 4 second half and were caught out 3 times.

Pattern is simple and Saints, to their credit, copied West ham and Bournemouth.

Defend deep.

Let Chelseas defenders have the ball because they almost always lose it.

Press around half way inside their own half.

Overload their own box with defenders.

Have pace to counter on the break.

It is a proven formula now. Our attack gets choked. Lose the ball and game to counter attacks

Saints played the game plan perfectly and deserved to win. Simple.

I don't think we are good enough to get results against these teams and the results are proving that. Regardless of formation and selection we have no strength, guile or creativity. And we've got the shakiest defence since the days of Mickey Droy.

No, the results are proving that our manager lacks experience and at the moment is struggling to get the best out of players at his disposal.

Only four days ago we were good enough to beat a much better side away. You're not seriously suggesting that Southampton, West Ham and Bournemouth have better squads than ours?

Lampard is an absolute legend and my favorite player of all time. Managing is not for him though. Doesn't have the mental toughness. He's too easygoing and mellow with the players.

I would rather give him a team of his own to build before writing him off.

For the first goal. Why is Emerson running away when he sees that Odoi gets strangled up with three Southampton players?

Left us open and we conceded right away.

Because Emerson is useless.

I was happy for is to sell him to Bayern when they bid before. I fail to see what it is that make people think he is either a valuable asset now or has genuine potential to develop into one. I just see him as a very average part time winger who puts in very limited effort.

I agree Loz,but as I said earlier, I think we can definitely judge him after next pre season, that's when he shows if he is worth it or not

How much of this was Saints playing a perfect game, rather than Lamp not learning from his repeated failures?

I think in the replay you can actually see how Lampard looks at Emerson like, "bruh where are you going?".

Lazyness, he doesn't seem to want to get involved in much. He doesn't look cut out for English football, he would be much better suited to a walking league like Italy.

Bit of both. It was their game plan and they took their chances well.

Also on Lamps for not working out a way to break that game plan. How many shots of target combined have we had against West ham, Bournemouth and now today? 6 maybe 7?

I have seen enough to know that he is a real talent. We definitely need to be patient with him and give him time to develop - exactly what we didn't do with Salah and De Bruyne.

Somebody on here in an earlier post mentioned around the 17th minute that the match had all the hallmarks of similar performances against West Ham and Bournemouth, he was shouted down. truth be known though , how many honestly thought the same?

My biggest concern isn't the loss persay it's the lack of learning from the same scenario..
It was plain to with ten minutes gone that we were going to fanny about sideways & backwards again to no avail, and sooner or later they were going to get a golden chance.
The two players who were needed to create that piece of magic were both dreadful, Willian was back to normal (run around alot and f**k all end product) and CHO just hasn't picked back up yet since his injury, although i did think it was great game to give him a start in.
Dave or Emerson aren't capable of the out and out wing back role as neither cross the ball anywhere enough for the percentages required to create goals that the system demands.
All in all that was a piss poor performance and Frank does need to sort this problem out and fairly sharpish before confidence at home becomes a real issue with this young team.

Lampard is an absolute legend and my favorite player of all time. Managing is not for him though. Doesn't have the mental toughness. He's too easygoing and mellow with the players.
You mean he should be like Jose who throws his players under the bus at every opportunity? How did that work for him?

I have seen very few glimpses Liam of that talent so many rave about. Ok there has been the odd bit of silky skills and I saw him score a couple of good goals for the England u23s. However any time I’ve seen him in our first team I’ve not been impressed.
Abraham had a poor game today but you saw effort and determination in his game, I just don’t see this with CHO. Seems to throw his hands in the air when someone doesn’t find him with a pass, does the same when his own pass fails to get to his intended as if the other player hadn’t made the right run. Also noticed a lot of his runs off the ball today were not into decent dangerous space but into safe areas.
Good things just won’t come to him in the Premier League, he must break his balls to make it happen and I just don’t see him doing it. I’m hopefully totally wrong but I can’t see him cementing a place in our team anytime soon if ever.
