Thankfully that excuse has now been eliminated, one way or the other we will now find out the truth. If Werner thought he was under pressure before, now it notches up a degree. How do you say 'time to perform' in German?.

Wow. If you're going to blame anyone for Lampard's sacking then blame Havertz. Werner gave 100% every game and kept going despite being sh*t. Havertz completely the opposite.

Havertz completely the opposite. Havertz is just a different type of a player. It doesn't mean that he didn't give his best, people are different so that is also seen on the pitch. Werner has a lot going on when you look at his body language, Kai doesn't but that doesn't mean that he's to be blamed, it doesn't mean that he didn't give 100%, don't forget that he had Covid and was working from home to get back in shape. Kai played a bit more than 850 minutes in total in the PL this season while Mount played over 1500 minutes and the difference is that Mount has made 1 more goal and 1 more assist, that's really not much when you compare one of our best players to Kai that is considered to still be adapting and what not.
January 28, 20215 yr "It is obvious that Timo is a bit suffering and struggeling at the moment. And I think the most important thing is - well every player is different but as I know Timo and even get to know him better now I believe that he needs encouragement, much trust in his quality and we need a good position for him so he can play a bit in between the left flank and around the central striker in order to get his speed behind the last line. Therefore he needs encouragement, his smile and not to take it to heart that he isn't scoring. Sadly he just missed a penalty during the last cup game. Of course that doesn't help. Strikers are delicate and need a feeling of success, ... but the team was really open, really positiv - as I already mentioned yesterday to you colleagues-. The boys who came from the bench had a really good impact and the boys in the stands were very vocal." So far I like pretty much everything I heard from Tuchel.

The Werner must play striker gang in shambles surely? Because that sounds a lot like he's going to play him exactly where Lampard did.

I think it's still about Werner as a striker but Lampard did try to play him pretty much how Tuchel described where he should be, can't argue against that...

I know it was only Luton but the two up top looked better for Werner. He can play centre forward and drift out wide to the left.
January 29, 20215 yr I do wonder if we'll stick with the 3-4-3. We really only have two natural wingers (Hudson Odoi and Pulisic), so if Tuchel is willing to use one of them as a wingback and play two number 6s (as he's suggested), is means we can fit Havertz/Werner/Mount/Ziyech in behind either Tammy or Giroud. We could even try Havertz as the number 9, flanked by Mount and Werner. I'm sure those 3 would press very well.

Fully agree Jack. At the moment he doesn't look like he would work best as a lone striker ala Drogba. More likely part of a front two. Reminds me a bit of David Speedie. Similar stature but nowhere near as good in the air and doesn't want to fight everyone. Perhaps a bit of that type of aggression in his game would help. Edited January 30, 20215 yr by just
January 31, 20215 yr He's making a lot of runs but you have to do more than that. Looks atrocious still at the moment.

He did have that one chance in which he missed the ball lol, but overall he wasn't that bad. I think he's more involved in our play than both Giroud and Tammy so for me it's better that he plays and especially if we want to play with speed.
January 31, 20215 yr Really low in confidence at the moment, and it shows. Hasn’t gone hiding so that’s good, needs a jammy deflected goal or a tap in. I’ve still got hope that he will come good, eventually.

I thought he was terrible tbh, ruined every piece of build up, scuffed his shot, just a liability at the moment when he plays.
January 31, 20215 yr I think we need to bite the bullet and play him through this confidence drop. There is no long term option in Giroud and I don't think Abraham will ever be a consistent top four striker. Werner has is the only credible option of the current crop to be at the level we are aspiring to be and so we need to stick with him through what is undeniably a horrendous collapse in confidence. I think I'd have more chance bedding Bewitched than Werner would going past a defender just now.

For me Giroud should be starting most of our games.

I sort of agree but Giroud is the wrong side of @Valerie's age so is largely short term now. Werner is a big money investment who has proved he is a goalscorer of some talent. Bench him long term and we may as well give up on him. I think we need to try and rebuild his confidence and that only happens thorough game time. P.s.sell Jorginho 😀

Loz is probably right about biting the bullet with Werner, we have to get him going, we have sh*t loads of big games coming up, we need him scoring again. If we go with Giroud and fail to get Werner going were going to have a dilemma.
January 31, 20215 yr At the moment Werner is running like a Daewoo, we need to get him running like a Mercedes.

We persisted with Torres as our main man just for the sake of his transfer fee and to get his confidence back when Sturridge should've been the one we trusted with in the middle. I remember me and you going at it over Morata for a while, although tbf then we had no choice but to play Morata since we had no backup. Now we do, we have Abraham who still has potential, and Giroud who is usually very reliable and scores. I don't know... The more I see Werner play the worse he gets, I wouldn't want to waste that striker spot for him when there are currently two better options. And on top of that, a spot out wide when there are again better options.

Werner probably gets more of his misses on target than Morata used to. I have already written this season off so my theory is stick with Werner until the summer, if he hasn't banging them in by then we need to start thinking of other options, not like Morata who had half a season too long imo.

I prefer Werner to Morata, but Morata was better for a longer period, first 4-5 months he was scoring consistently and playing well. Werner has had what? A good few weeks with us. Even before we had that dip in form Werner kept missing valuable chances. That chance against Liverpool for example would've gotten us back into the game and he f**ked it right up. It's the story of the season with him. And I wouldn't write this season off just yet, don't be hasty, we're in two cups and still have a chance to get top 4. Plenty to play for still.
