Timo Werner

The thing is, I don't even think he is a bad footballer, I actually think he is really good, but it all depends on the system, and our system doesn't suit him.

I'll say what I said the other day, unless we change our style of football, then I see no future for him here. He just doesn't suit slow possession football, it's not his game. If we're not going to change, then we may as well just sell him and bring somebody in who is more suited to our style of football.

It's nice to be getting assists from Werner, but he was bought in to score goals. If he can't score the goals for us, then he will need to be replaced by somebody who can.

You are right Scott he's had to fit into a high possession system that doesn't really favour his game, i agree, the huge problem is if we try to play a more end-to-end game with less possession, but more quality possession, where we find ourselves in attacking situations 3v3 or 4v4 rather than 3v7 4v8, but then we lose control of the game and become defensively vulnerable, going from a team that is hard to beat, to an utter shambles.

Werner should be capable of fitting into this system if he improves one thing, his finishing, it's the one part of Werners game i am hugely disappointed with, when the chance comes to him it's all down to him, he needs to be clever with his finishing, not just hitting the keeper, look at the way Chilwell finished last night a little bit of magic to leave the keeper stranded and an easy goal.

Many people think he can't actually play football, maybe not a coincidence they had their best offensive game yesterday since Tuchel took over with him not playing. I think if he keeps his work ethic up and further uses his speed churning out assists, he can be a viable squad member, but it's literally his only choice because he is just not good enough in all other areas imo.

Our front 3 having a good game without Werner and Ziyech is really good for squad competition. Timo & Hakim will have to step up their games respectively to be regular starters if the 3 that played vs Palace can keep this level up. It's this level of competition within a squad that makes the top teams top and allows them not only to compete across multiple competitions but also to win them.

Sometimes we as a club do not do our homework properly and sign a real lemon of a player, like Baka.

Others we sign a good player who was really decent before we sign him, he fails with us, leaves and rebuilds himself to a decent level, like sutton.

Is my belief Werner will head down the sutton road.

Good assist but my lord, can't he just smash the ball in?

Every time he shoots, it's so weak. He did the hard part carrying from 60 yards out only to put such a weak shot.

One shouldn't ridicule him because of that super soft ball at the end of his match. He just made a 70m sprint and was all alone except Pulisic who seemed out of breath (already) himself and didn't really gave him an opportunity to pass.

I think it was a good game for him considering he's not in uber-form right now (far from it..).

10 goals and 9 assists this season - not a bad return but it feels abit like we’re making excuses for him at times and he’s becoming another Torres. “He won the corner”, “he’s assisting”. We paid the money for him for his goals.

I wonder if he’s a player that you have to build your team around and can only play in space or on the counter?

I have given up on expecting goals from him at this point. We simply aren't set up in a way for him to score goals. His overall number of goals should be better, especially when you take into account the ones he has missed, but I don't expect him to ever be a 30 or even 20 goals a season player for us, not in this system.

22 goal contributions in 42 appearances.

It's not like he's had an absolute disaster of a season.

I think he runs that left channel really well. If we were to sign a Haaland or Lukaku or Aguero you could imagine them forming a good link up with Werner.

After watching him this season, he's more suited to the LW position a la Salah/Mane more than he is as a pure striker at least in the PL.

Him and Pulisic rotating on the left puts pressure on any opposition from minute 1 to 90

Again did what he had to do and won us the match. another big contribution from the lad.

But he doesnt half miss some absolute sitters and i dont know how. His blooper reel this year could go on and on for ages.

We saw the brilliant best, and woeful worst of Timo today. Great play for the goal, the pass, turn, run and finish were all top class. The other chances he missed, particularly the one he put wide which would have made it 2v0 was dreadful.

Watching the way he plays (giving everything), and listening to his interviews (humble, self depreciating) - I don't know, I just really like the guy. He seems like such a nice lad - unfortunately, most top class strikers are arrogant unlikable pricks. Perhaps Timo needs to take a leaf out of Ronaldos book, and be less like Zola.

My goodness I do not remember a match winner being so awful in a long time.

He should have had 4 or 5 not 1. These were not hard chances and he did not even hit the target with most.

I know he scored today on a wide open tap in but that's all he did well.   he was poor overall....its not like he's just missing sitters but the contact he made on that shot was just awful. Scoffed it badly.....he also had a step on the defender on the left and he slowed and turned into the defense. Puzzling.  Dude dribble hard and rifle the shot lol.

Unfortunately like Kai we won't see the best of him until next year.

Torres was genuinely rubbish and the excuses for him were exactly that, the fact his finest hour came after he nearly blew an entire tie for us says it all. With him we were genuinely down to ten with some random clown up front doing his own thing.

Werner while on an unacceptable goal run is still positively contributing to the cause in my opinion, he's played most of the big games under TT and our record has so far been near perfect.

I don't dispute an early Chelsea Torres was exactly that @Argo but I feel its a bit harsh to judge his time with us as just that.

I think he generally turned into a decent playmaker and put in a good shift for us. Was he a 50million Striker that scored for fun in a Blue shirt like Drogs or Diego, No, but right now (seeing as we continue to make the comparison) I'd be putting Torres in our team above Timo. Blimey, I might even push to Morata.

Have to agree JM7. We're bending over backwards to praise him. His play in the build up to the goal was great. Finish was simple. Problem is that's what we need our striker doing every week consistently, not just once in a game.

Today was a perfect example of Werner. 5 chances and he scores one. This is what Werner does. He's a volume shooter not clinical.

Morata 😳 Surely we're not that bad. At least Werner tries rather than having a cry every time he loses the ball.
