Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Hah the sky article you quoted @coco already has comments made for him that he has backtracked, feels he was wrong to do the interview and that yes in fact he did want to come here and does want to play for us. Lol

True, but he's our knob LOL

Must knobs unlock things, the man has scored like 5 league goals. He ain't unlocking any defense anytime soon

We did cause otherwise boy is our judgement sh*t. Hang your heads in shame Michael E and Marina G.

Maybe Havertz still works out but the rest...

I mean he still has a long way to prove his transfer value but his heroics last season in the ucl final will definitely not be forgotten. Even if thats the most significant thing he does for us, its pretty hard to rival that anyway.

I was gonna say the same thing about Sheva's goal against the spuds. Has a special place in my heart .

In the same way Torres goal v Barca defied his flop status, the same will be said for Havertz.

Those goals were too important

I know it will be hard but I think if the club can draw a line under this so can we. The man made a mistake and as hurtful as it may seem I'm sure it wasn't his intention to disrespect us.

If he is indeed set to let his football do the talking then perhaps this was exactly the fire he needed in his belly. Its one thing to have to prove yourself to a league and your fans.

Now he has lost the respect of some, if not all of his teammates and must now prove not only his worth on the pitch but redeem himself as a man of loyalty and honour.

It's a lot on this man's back now, as long as he continues to play for CFC I'll support him (providing he doesn't make a fool of us all again).

He just started to come into form so let's hope this doesn't derail it and we can't just get back to business.

Let's not forget we are the champions of Europe we may not win the league this year but we have an even better squad in theory (not including injuries) than last season and should go deep in the ucl, Lukaku must prove he can hang with the champions of Europe now after bigging himself up. He needs to prove it to his teammates, his coach and the fans of this club.

I doubt Rom gives two flips what you or I or anyone says on the internet or social media. Will be the match going fans like @The Brit and others who will make an impact.

If he scores v Spurs this month, all is forgiven as far as I’m concerned. He’s been a prat but he’s not the first and won’t be the last. We forgave Drogba after all and he kicked off several times. And everyone was rewarded for building a bridge and getting over it.

Supposedly back in training today. Obviously I have no way of knowing whether or not this is an old photo.

That’s Lewis Hall in the background who was in the Liverpool squad so it’ll be fairly recent.

It is what it is, he’s been prick but now would appear to be back in the fold. On his day he is a major asset for us so I wish him well.
Fans will take a little while to get over it but it’s up to him with performances.

Please someone advise him when he scores his next goal not to be running to the fans kissing the badge, too soon.

He can do it when he scores the winner in 2022 CL final.

Well handled. No official announcement, but back channel reports that  indicates everyone is happier. That’s the right response.
lukaku has to buckle down, Tuchel has to use him properly and the fans need to support the team.
now let’s get Werner back and running and push city hard in the back ha;f of season.

he should realise he is a nobody at this club at this point, and he needs to earn the respect he thinks he is entitled to

Drogba’s ego was never as high as to complain about the way he was being used or question tactics, Drogba never disrespected Jose in his 2004 comments or Scolari in his 2009 comments (although warranted for the latter). Why oh why do I keep seeing these comparisons 😅, the worst was the Hudson-Odoi one on here.

You are in the minority but fair enough, ultimately any celebration will be for Chelsea not this lard. With certain players at the club, you root them due to their characters and identity but this guy will forever have a cloud over him. Unfortunately for Lukaku, despite the yes men around him, his best mate Pogba and his inflated ego.. he simply isn’t ‘that guy’; for which he thinks he is. Call it what you want, destiny, fate.. the number 9 curse, the record fee, history has a way of repeating itself.

Drogba wanted to leave on many occasions in first few years and a section of fans were booing him for the way he used to exaggerate fouls etc..and after getting sent off in cl final in 2008, he wasn’t the most popular guy in the squad

It will be like it was when he arrived. A 'honeymoon' phase for a while then the first sign of adversity he'll do something stupid again.

He's not going to suddenly change the habits of a lifetime now.

Except he did in 2006, then doubled down by insulting both the club and Abramovich himself in 2007 - in fact he said almost verbatim what Lukaku said:

"I want to get back to playing with butterflies in my stomach for a club who make me dream," he said. "For me, there aren't 50 clubs who could stimulate this sort of passion, just four: AC Milan, Inter, Barça and Real."

In any case the real work starts from here on in. Score a hattrick against Spurs and things will be on the way to be mended. History tells us the ball is entirely in Lukaku's court though. Compare the above to one of Drogba's final interviews in 2018:

I was a bit scared to fail and after my first difficult year at Chelsea I spoke to Jose Mourinho and told him ‘I’m not happy here. Maybe this is not for me and I need to leave.’

“But he was saying ‘no, you have to stay. I will help you.’

“Everything had been so comfortable for me in France and after that first season in England I was looking for that comfort zone again, which meant going back to Marseille and being the only striker.

“And then I heard the manager saying something really interesting to all the players.

“He said ‘if you want to be the only king then go back to the team where you were playing before and score 100 goals.

“But here at Chelsea there are 22 kings, so you have to accept that and work together. Or you go’.

“That’s when I understood that Chelsea were giving me the challenge to go beyond what I had already done.

“That’s when I knew I needed to improve and it’s why I became the player I was.

If Lukaku can show the same humility and desire, then he will become a great not just at this club but in football. On his current path, he is destined to be a forgotten man.
