Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Featured Replies

He had some good moments like the lay off to Ziyech but ghosted the game for the most part.

Think it was around the 40th minute the graphic came up saying he had 4 touches, that's truly pathetic given how much we were dominating.

Another big game where Lukaku fails to make much of an impact. Wouldn't be surprised if he played the weekend F.A cup game and grabbed a hattrick only to disappear again against Tottenham and City.

Really wish we would use him the way Pep is using his record signing. I thought the December period was a sign it might start happening but now we seem to be back to him lasting the 90 even when he doesn't deserve too.

I think some of you are being way too harsh. Rom was asking for the ball plenty of times yet he wasn't passed to, but he was making himself an option.

I almost feel like he was trying too hard when he did have possession. With what went on this week he really wanted to make an impact, but sometimes this can have the opposite effect so he looked clumsy at times rather than playing more naturally / instinctively. All this comes with game time, so I do believe the more he plays we will see him feeling far more comfortable.

He's our record signing who we've tinkered with a UCL winning system to accommodate, he should be getting held to the highest standards.

How much has he played recently though following injury and then Covid. At least let him have this season to get used to the system and a good run of games.

If we actually had a Fabregas type midfielder I would imagine he would be found more when asking for the ball, at times our players go sideways or back with a pass.

I may have subscribed to that if Hudson Odoi didn't get slaughtered against Brighton despite also recently returning from Covid.

It works both ways. He had a wet dream of a counter attacking chance (one of his supposed major strengths) and he ran the ball out of play.

He also needs to get involved more in the build up, 4 touches in (around) 40 minutes of a match we were totally dominating is diabolical.

It all depends what Tuchel asks him to do, not? If he wants Lukaku to stay in the centre, to be the focus and to always keep two defenders with him (that way freeing up space for the other strikers) he should be judged accordingly.

Apart from Kovacic and Zyech we also don't seem to have any players who want to play the ball forwards quickly.

Probably shouldn't expect much leeway for a while but I think some have decided he's the wrong fit and they are going to stand by that hell or high water.

The entire season have been very stop-start for him. Last time entirely down to himself but still. He was great v Villa and Brighton and when he gets going he should be our best attacker quite comfortably.

The match vs Man City will show the reality of our attacking capabilities, if Lukaku doesn't show up there it will be clear that all we can hope for is that he delivers against bottom feeders which should be enough for a top 4 finish but for anything else in that case we would need to find a world class winger in the summer.

Just hope the match going fans continue to support him.

Cause yeah a lot of us will be very happy when he leaves, hopefully in the summer.

He just is not a top player imo.

Atm Lukuku to Drogba is a healthy 1.5 to a rock solid 9, Drogba a big big game player, who at his v best had, Pace , Power, two footed, a towering header of the ball, very agile for a big man, skilful, and as imtimidating as Costa, ask Arsenals back 4, where apparently a ghostly whisper of 'Drogbas gonna get you' still hangs over the arsenals back 4, i digress a little, but i don't rate Lukaku......

Wasn’t just best performance but he was comfortably better than Kane, and most of his performances this season have been better than Kane - who many wanted. Who else would you want as a striker? There’s only a couple in the world who are better and seemingly none who are available to buy.

I think many of you are having trouble separating what he does on the pitch from what has happened off of it.

Definitely not. I have always thought Lukaku is a limited footballer.

What exactly has Lukaku done to swing some fans opinions on him? Okay, he is our player now, but forget that for a moment. What are we seeing now that is such a massive improvement over the Lukaku that was at United and even large periods where he was at Everton? I remember the majority of Chelsea fans saying we were right to sell him and going for Morata was a better option than Lukaku (I never wanted either of them at the time) So what has changed? I'm not exactly seeing much to his game that has improved since he left United. His touch is still bad, trapping the ball and holding off defenders looks awkward and slow, pressing off the ball is below average, he's ghosting the big games. These were some of his biggest criticisms at Everton and United, so why should we ignore those faults now that he is a Chelsea player again?

I'm not changing my opinion on Lukaku just because he plays for us again, he needs to force me to change my opinion by improving aspects of his game that I think has stopped him from becoming an elite player.
