Chelsea v Liverpool (League Cup Final) Sun 27th Feb 2022 16:30 GMT

Featured Replies

Probably one of the few finals in world football we will ever watch where no team deserved to lose, like literally this was the most 50-50 match throughout the full 120 mins if there is ever going to be one. PKs always a lottery, disappointing we are one the losing end but we really looked like the Chelsea of last season, the UCL winners.

Proud of the whole team. Up the Chels!

Penalties are really something that is always tricky.

but during the game we were rbe better side we should have won this before the penalties

The specialist penalty keeper comes on ... fails to save 11 penalties in a row, and then misses his own kick. You couldn't make it up LOL

At least that is one monkey off Mendy's back now.

Onwards and upwards !

Football is made of stories

That was a good final...there is little to choose between the sides

Mendy had a good game but it was a clear ploy to play Kepa for the penalties

Silva at 37 again showed his class

We though missed big chances ...Pulisic and Mount will look back at missed opportunities

Kai had a good game again

Could Lukaku have held his run for his disallowed goal?  I have to say the I thought it was very close

In the end it wasn't to be but we more than matched a Liverpool side that are flying at present

Shout out to Kova for getting booked in the 89th minute, I had a free bet with Paddy on him getting booked and us to lift the trophy , which I cashed in at the start of Extra Time

In hindsight Mendy should have been kept on. He had a 10/10 performance.

But our attacking line up has cost us today - 100%. None of them have their shooting boots and when they DO they are offside.

Never nice to lose on penalties but that was an exceptional shoot-out to be fair. We should have taken our chances during the game. Having said that after all the troubles behind the scenes a fantastic display from us today against one of the in form teams in Europe.

Yes but I can't remember seeing Mendy ever save a pen

He just won Afcon cup, awarded best goalkeeper of the tournament and saved penalty. What else do you need to prove?

And with 4 of what is probably our best XI not starting as well ... James, Chilwell, Christensen and Ziyech.

We are a lot closer to City and Liverpool than many think ... JUST NEED TO PUT THE DAMN BALL IN THE NET :-)

Mendy played really well, kept us in it.

Silva still top quality even at his age.

Alonso, for all his haters - of which I am often one - had a really good game. Can't really think of anything Salah did down that side.

Chalobah started poorly, but grew into the game and ended it well.

Midfield was a bit disjointed at times.

Front 3 looked fluid and dangerous, well more so than usual. Lukaku did okay when he came on, but Werner.. man he just needs to go. Doesn't even have the balls to take a pen before Kante and Rudiger.

Overall, plenty to be proud of. VAR is bullsh*t as usual and makes it up as they go along.

Mendy deserved to stay on after his display. But few on here argued with that decision when it was made, as Mendy generally doesn't offer much with penalties, while Kepa has been a hero in previous shoot-outs. Just didn't work out that way today.

honestly I can't feel bad about this loss.

It was such a tight game that it went down to keeper vs keeper penalty

We had it all to win and so did the Pool.

Maybe Harvey Elliott needs a punch in the face

That is one of many thing that pl ref need to be better at. Taa n havertz stuff was normal, just gave them a talking to and move on. The one from eliot was unacceptable, easy yellow.

we played well except not clinical enough like usual

i don't blame Kepa

Agreed, I can’t really blame Kepa. Penalties are lotteries. I would ONLY blame Kepa if he was taking a piss with the PK.

We lost because Mount, Havertz, Lukaku and co. FAIL to score in 90 minutes without being offside.

50-50 game. Better penalties won.

Why wasn't Keita sent off is beyond me

Not too sad even though we lost. Shame though.

Our team is built for a game like this. If we had clinical scorers we would have won this regular time.

Onwards and upwards.
