Chelsea v Real Madrid (CL Q/F 1st Leg)) Wed 6th Apr 2022 20:00 GMT

the defensive change fixed our problems but unfortunately mendy had to go and do that. couldve gone to madrid 2-1 at worst but now its a tough job to turn around

Tough one to take. I didn’t think we were that bad, the difference was the two goalies and the two strikers for each team. We created enough to have some hope going into the 2nd but it’s hanging by a thread.

Mendy's howler was absolutely horrible. We had momentum going starting the second half and he just killed it in one swift move. Without it I think we would have come away with at least a draw here, possibly a win.

Actually thought we were the better team overall. Completely done by the individual class of Benzema and a terrible display from Mendy. And then the usual chances missed by ourselves which you simply won't get away with at this level.

If there was ever a vintage Real Madrid Champions League performance...

Two moments of fantastic quality put them ahead in a (sort of) even game, we came back into it, then a very unfortunate mistake from Mendy effectively ended the game as a contest. Bringing on Loftus-Cheek and Lukaku only sealed the deal.

They are just better than us, can't really have many complaints, other than Mendy's sh*t passing yet again. They have a world class striker who makes even half chances into very good ones, we don't have anything like that, and our defence just couldn't cope with them.

Were you watching the same match? They are not a better team than us, we had more of the ball, covered far more of the pitch, spent more time in their half completed far more passes, had more than double the attempts.

A better team doesn’t start time wasting from the 60th minute

Tie far from over.

Madrid were always gonna be a threat at counter and we f**ked up massively at the back, but it's still just a 2 goal defeat and we've better away from home anyway.

Tuchel has a lot going on in his mind and we've got no help coming from any side with everything that's going on, but we'll survive another week and let's see where it will get us.

Not a bad summary to be fair.

Worst moment of the game was seeing Courtois celebrating in front us like a lunatic, rotten to the core that c**t, especially after his little media antics before the game. Huge mistake from Mendy and why most clubs were never after him due to the importance of goalkeepers good with their feet, with the way the game has evolved.

Surprised by the other result tonight but Bayern will turn that around.

I suspect you are right. Bayern barely escaped with a draw in the away match against Salzburg in the previous round, but they destroyed them at home. Mind you I'm not convinced Bayern will take out Liverpool on current form if they make it through.

For the first time it’s looking like the behind the scenes stuff is affecting us, the first half we looked very unprepared

Benzema showed a classy performance, two excellent goals

Mendy has looked suspect with his feet for a while, tonight the chickens have come home to roost

We did though have 4 big chances after the f**k up, poor finishing and a keeper who knows how to save denied us

Havertz was quality, the movement for his header was world class…how long can we hold onto him?

A big ask to get the two back next week, we can do it though it’s unlikely…who knows

Trouble is ... the pile of dead wood to fire sale just keeps on growing ... without any takers ... !

Chilwell will be the next one, career and life changing injury under a 5 year deal, one of the biggest earners too.

I thought we would lose by a goal today and beat them in Madrid now not so sure.

Mendy I think killed us in the 2nd with dwelling on the ball at the wrong moment.

We had enough chances just not clinical enough, Lukakwho with two headers he mis-cues.

Mount narrowly over the bar and Ziyech too. James also hit a good shot Courtois saves.

Kai one of our best players great goal and even coming into defence when we could not clear the ball in the 2nd H.

Credit to Benzema two magnificent headers. We were very open in the first H, not sure why.

I would drop Mendy for a game I did wonder against Brentford yet after tonight drop for a game.

Also disappointed in injury time when James has a free kick and kicks it straight to Courtois when we had everyone up there.

We are certainly in a slump now, two defeats on the bounce.

In all seriousness the issue with ownership and the sanctions will likely have affect some of our fans poorly, for a number of potential reasons. @Argo may be one of those affected.

I know I was both mad and very sad at times in the early stages of it and found it hard to think of anything else or talk. Quick to temper too.

I'm travelling in South America atm. I'm still following the forum but more as a reader as I know what I'm like getting drawn into debates/arguments and don't want to waste hours/days of travel time 🤣

Regarding the game I don't think it was that bad the mistakes aside, genuinely think we still have a chance next week especially if Ancelotti goes as defensive as he did in the second half here.

Quite possible, especially with Tuchel now dealing with his own personal issues. Honestly the way things have been going in recent weeks I will be relieved if we finish top 4 and get a decent new owner.

And despite all those stats, we made one chance all game. They looked dangerous every time they had the ball in our half. Our defence struggled. Theirs didn't really.

That goal after straight half time killed it for us, along with Lukaku missing that header.

We all know Mendy’s kicking is bad, we normally get away with it to a degree but today it’s potentially knocked us out the Champions League.

We just need to re-focus and cement a place in the top 4, and see what happens in the FA Cup.

At 2-1 there was still a big chance but Mendy has possibly f**ked it now. That pointless international break really came at the wrong time for us and destroyed all momentum. Big kick up the arse needed from Tuchel for the weekend.. UTC.
