April 6, 20224 yr We created our own downfall here conditions weren't that great but defensively we were poor for the first two goals. I just don't see us turning this around unless we get a quick start in the return leg; I think Carlo would have to have a brain fart to allow that. Ever since the James and Chillwell were sidelined we turned into a different team. This result plus our league form means we will likely have to fight for 4th spot and maybe a cup final place but the way Palace took Arsenal apart that's not a given. Looks like we will have endure the distinct possibility of Liverpool actually winning all four trophies....God help us if that happens.

And as soon as some American conglomerate takes over we’ll achieve full Spurs. Then next stop, full Everton. And ultimately we can join Forest as former European Cup winners poncing around in the third division. Ah good. Sunshine Snedger is here. Some people are glass half full. Some people are glass half empty. But Snedger doesn't even have a glass.
April 6, 20224 yr I couldn't help but think of that chant at Norwich we've got Abramovich you've got a drunken bitch they've got Benzema we've got Lukaku. I honestly think the grand scheme of things 3 points against Soton is more important than beating Palace.

Theirs didn't really. To be fair , I thought we were unlucky to not get a 2nd goal tonight. Ziyech,Azpi and mount all came very close and then lukakus two missed headers and silva putting a free header over.

Well, there is hope, Ruud Van Nistelrooy had the same type of injury and so did Shearer and others and they came back strong, but Van Dijk took a good season to get back to normal after his ACL; but even then he’s not exactly the force he once was. We’ll see, horrible time to get it and if we replace Alonso in the summer (if we can) the new guy might just dislodge him.

He already kind of has going so defensive in the second half when they could have killed us on the counter. And he has form in this competition for blowing leads. Don't get me wrong it will be very hard but I don't actually think next week is mission impossible especially with away goals scrapped.
April 6, 20224 yr Mendy’s feet have been the elephant in the room we all ignored for quite some time let’s be honest, only now the chickens are coming home to roost.

Tbh even a fully fit Chilwell I still feel was expendable if we found a top top fullback. Like how we had Wayne Bridge but when Ashley Cole became avaliable it was a no brainer.
April 6, 20224 yr We should have scored more given the clear chances. Disappointing that we only scored one. Going in 3-2 would have given us some hope. 3-1 is abit too far I think. Lukaku is looking worse and worse by the day. Pulisic offered nothing. I didn’t think we would win the tie. We looked abit heavy at the minute, something isn’t right but I hope they turn it around.
April 6, 20224 yr I'm not too concerned there's some interesting conclusions to take from this game. One we played with 5 outfield defenders and conceded 2 goals. Switched to a 4 and conceeded 1 although it was a howler and really shouldn't happen. We probably created more clear cut chances after the half time changes. Tuchel probably got the selection wrong even though on paper it looked right and I think he knows that hence the half time changes. Christensen shouldn't really be 1v1 against Vini Jr it's a mismatch. Kovacic probably should have started but it's hard to leave out Kanté and Jorginho especially since the latter assisted our goal. The Mendy mistake killed us giving Real the psychological edge. 2 goals isn't actually that big of deal to overcome in 90 mins, especially this season due to no longer having the away goal rule. This game was perhaps actually more suited for Alonso on the wing, with his natural left foot to deliver, alongside the fact Real played with a 433 yet Valverde played more as a midfielder. Alonso wouldn't have had as much defensive responsibility and could have perhaps provided more attacking support than Azpil on the left. I wouldn't really point fingers in any direction for this loss, dips in levels are always common and judging by whats going on outside of the pitch its finally seeping through to our performance. It's so hard to retain the ucl but it's not over yet for us. So we've dropped a level recently how do we react and recover from this? More hard work I guess. We've beaten then before there's no reason to believe we can't do it again. Edited April 6, 20224 yr by LongtimerLurker
April 6, 20224 yr The only thing I'm mad about is Mendy today. This is not a one off thing. He has been doing this type of stuff almost every game lately...miskicking simple balls, waiting to long to clear, playing to directly opposite player etc.. Game against Brentford direct pass to the Ivan guy presenting with open goal but got away with this.

Yea for sure, my original fear was just his massive wages, only behind Kante & Lukaku and not being able to shift him.
April 6, 20224 yr It's a bit ironic that it was our defence and keeper that were our biggest reason for finishing strong a year ago and they're kind of falling apart roght now. You can't have those kind of mistakes against top class opposition and expect to get away with it. Mendy had a shocker, really let the team down. Also, the difference between a world class striker on one side and a £100m lamppost on the other was on display tonight. Two free headers and he couldn't even get them on goal. f**kin hell. We were already 4 goals up at that time... But honestly I can never get the amount of stick alonso gets. Hopefully he starts the second leg at wingback.... I don't know if we can win the tie but we can win the game
April 6, 20224 yr You know it’s bad when most of us haven’t ranted much over Lukaku, it’s just an absolute given he’s going to squander chances and not offer much now, not even worth the paragraphs.

April 6, 20224 yr Mendys f**k up has been coming for a long time, the way our defence f**ks around every time we could have let in a lot more goals like this.

There’s no point ranting because we all know he wants to leave. Not only he’s useless but he’s checked out. Dont know why we brought him on, he’s never going to do anything but miss chances.
April 6, 20224 yr So many poor performances put there today, Mendy, Christensen, mount, Pulisic and RLC were stand outs. I still think we have a chance of going through, albeit a slim one, but we need to put in a performance of the season

April 6, 20224 yr Right, I did my part by make sure the atmosphere was f**king amazing (you’re all welcome by the way), now you bunch of layabouts need to step it up! @Valerie you need to bump off a relative and make sure their funeral is on the match day. @axman2526 you need to go all soon and gloom, start slagging off some players. @coco make sure you completely f**k up the match day thread. Lets start taking this serious guys, it’s like f**king amateur hour in here today!
