Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

When is Poch going to realise that we look a much better football team when Sterling is not on the pitch?

Looked totally disinterested last night. Just hope we can move him on in the summer.

First 5 minutes he backed out of a 50/50, then just volleyed the ball into touch. The worse one though was when Jackson and Madueke had the ball in the left corner, Sterling was in the box and didnt even make the slightest attempt to show for a pass, or to create space, or to even actually move his lazy ass.

Ok fair enough. My perception was he was indicating Jackson was ok, and I think the commentator was fooled by the arm movement downwards as well, as he actually says "... pass to Jackson who is onside!" before Jackson has even passed to Sterling ... The lino's arm is extended downwards completely straight, and then he bends it when he starts running. If you don't see the subsequent later flag, the natural conclusion is that he flagged him onside and didn't give it, and VAR has then made the decision to disallow the goal.  Sometimes not being at the ground and relying on TV doesn't help 🙂

There is no such thing as flagging someone onside. You either flag someone offside or you do nothing and the game continues. Lino got it spot on by letting play continue to see the outcome and flag following the goal, that then lets VAR check it. Had the linesman flagged the original offside the game would have stopped and there would have been uproar had he been onside and the game had been stopped there and then.

Another issue all together is the use of VAR and the technology available. Are cameras fast enough to capture the moment a ball leaves a players boot, are they in the right position to draw the lines, are they even drawing the lines in the right place etc.

Was this the one when Madueke moaned at him and told him to give him an option?

Yeah, both Madueke and Jackson gave him a dogging, he wasnt even slightly bothered. I was pissed right off, the lazy bastard.

You know Willian used to get a lot of criticism for his purple patches, but boy would I do anything to have a Willian in this team. At least he worked hard and contributed every now and then. I can't remember the last time Sterling had a good game, I seriously can't. Even when he scored against City he was having a pants game.

Definitely agree, I wasn't Willian's biggest fan but I'd have him over Sterling all day long. Sterling will have the occasional moment but you could probably count on 1 hand the amount of games he's been great all the way through. He's going to be a proper nightmare to shift given his wages.

Sterling has achieved a lot in his career, but in my view Willian has far more talent, and contributed vastly more in his time with us than Sterling has since he joined.

I've always found Sterling massively overrated, even when he was a hot prospect at Liverpool and scoring goals at City. I don't think he's regressed, he's just not really improved much since he was a kid. He's always been frustrating and inconsistent. Am I being too harsh on him? Maybe, he's still massively helped us this season but when you're on 300k a week and you're our star and most experienced player you need to offer more.

He's got nothing on the likes of Hazard, Willian, Pedro, etc. And it makes all those Sterling v Hazard debates that used to linger around years ago even more laughable, he's never been close to Hazards level.

No leadership from him.. I maybe reading too much into it but there was a clip at full time where after the ref blows the whistle the camera cuts to the Chelsea bench and Palmer and Sterling exchange look at each other and you can make out that there isn’t much love there..

He has done it twice this season where he could just pass it to Palmer and we score .. lucky it didn’t cost us today.. but for 300k a week .. blimey what a waste!!

I could post the same thing every time he starts a game. Just want him gone in the summer.

Form has certainly regressed since the first half of the season. Seems to have lost his motivation a bit and it's not a great excuse but I can see why. We have to remember that Sterling had essentially been starting for title challengers (and winning many) for ten consecutive seasons before he signed for us. It must be challenging to keep your motivation when you are used to that but now have found yourself battling it out in lower midtable with the likes of Wolves & Fulham for two consecutive seasons.

It's not a great excuse because he's our biggest earner but I can see why his motivation is gone. His entire tenure at the club will have been extremely far off what he expected.

Theyre unforgiveable, one is acceptable for a forward, Ive never minded greedy goal scorers. But to keep doing it is ridiculous. He had another last night where he was through wide right, too wide to shoot but he did anyway. If he had pullled it back Palmer ( I think ) was completely open on the penalty spot.

It was Gallagher, and I said the same thing in the match thread last night.

You would think after playing for City under Guardiola for so long, he would know all about when to pass and when to shoot.

He could have had two assists last night and everybody would be saying well done, but no, his greed got the better of him and now we are all criticising him.

Yah, this is a guy who is more concerned with himself than the team... trying to get his England place back - not going to happen.

Being outshone by Palmer every time he plays obviously doesn't do anything for his ego or confidence...

Sincerely hope Todd lets him go in the summer...

Then, as someone else rightly said, we won't have to keep looking at that stupid little grin every time he fluffs it or worse, fails to pass to his team mate who is sitting in front of an open goal... like Monday night again.

Can't find a single reason to like this guy. Never in my life have I hated a Chelsea player more than Sterling. You know that extra five a side player that you take in your team because one of your friends is a bit late? That's Sterling.

I f**king hate him.

I was trying to think of a Chelsea player I have disliked more but am struggling to come up with one. Every time I see his name in the starting line up I shake my head. Can't be many Chelsea supporters who would like to see Sterling here beyond this season.

I wonder whether Saudi will come knocking for him this summer. They can easily pay his wages - apparently he rejected 900k a week to play for them. They would also be able to pay us a chunk of change for the transfer too. The only thing is if we lose sterling, we lose one of our oldest players bar thiago, who is likely also leaving.

I don't think Chelsea are brave enough to do it. I also don't think Sterling wants to go to Saudi, because he still wants to fight for an England spot.

He's really stunk up the place as of late. Dreadful form, like playing with 10 men.

Having said all that, I can't be too hard on him to be honest cause without his early season performances we would be a lot closer to relegation than mid table so I will always be grateful for that.

Here's hoping he can perform well for a period longer than 2 months next season cause he's not going anywhere.

Hate a football player who hasn't hurt anyone, as far as I know? Wow, how deep must your feelings run when it's someone like Putin, to name just one!
