Doesn't deserve to be booed by the supporters, but very bad and should be moved on in the summer to whoever will take him.

In almost every other scenario I would agree, but not today. I think fans are just sick and tired of his selfishness, especially when it doesn't pay off. 3 times this season he has messed up 1v1's instead of passing it to a player for an open goal, this was fresh on the fans minds after doing it again vs Newcastle. The absolute worst thing he could have done today is make it about himself, but he did. He should never have taken that penalty. He put himself before the team and he did it again with that awful freekick. Fans are rightly sick of it. The team should always come first, but Sterling insists on making it about himself. Why did he have any more right to take that penalty over somebody like Jackson or Murdyk? You don't ever see them taking away that penalty kick from Palmer, because they understand it's a team game and Palmer has a 100% penalty conversion rate for us.

This was one of the most selfish performances I have seen from a player in some time, especially after getting criticism for the same thing in the game before.

Felt sorry for him, but yeah he should never have taken that penalty. He done brilliant for Palmer's goal but will be overshadowed by his penalty miss and general play. He needs to come back stronger now. Mudryk has dealt with fan criticism throughout season, however has looked much more assured these past couple games or so. Sterling has this break to knuckle down and come back stronger. He faced a lot of critics before season even begun and started season on fire. Let's hope he does same again.

Yes he’s frustrating and should probably be moved on but those who booed should be ashamed of themselves. Recency bias has made people forget what he did for us at the start of the season.

Poch is not helping him either, by holding him to different standards than Mudryk and Madueke. There is no way either of them would have have played more than 45 minutes if they had the kind of performance Sterling did. Fans hate preferrential treatment and it has now turned Sterling to a lightning rod for all the pent-up frustrations

His early form wasn't even that good. He was playing well against the worst teams we have played against all season. When it comes to playing well against quality opposition, he's only done it twice, and both of those times were against City, and we all know why that was.

Look at who he has scored against this season. Luton (2) Burnley, Man City, Newcastle (played sh*t in this game) Man City again, Preston and Blackburn. Some pundits were telling us he's world class, the only thing he has ever been world class at is being selfish.

Created a goal on his own.
Won the penalty that he missed.
18 goals or assists so far this season

Sure, he wasn't good but he's become a scapegoat for people to take out their frustrations on. He's not the only one who's been crap recently and for example Enzo has been at least as poor recently himself but escaped the over the top criticism.

Was funny watching him.. the only thing is he did not shy away but the harder he tried the worse it became.. he will survive and fans will forgive him if he can turn it around.. there is a potential clash with city around the corner .. we will need him for that one for sure :)..

English stadiums need some of that Balkan atmosphere. Players like Sterling need to get the dogs abuse everytime they touch the ball. He should man himself up and ask for his contract to be canceled and leave on a free. It's criminal to be that sh*te. At least if he'd try to look like he gives a f**k, but he does not even do that. Happy he is not in the England squad anymore and hopefully Boehly has his Saudi friends come for the rescue and shifts this horrendous player in the 3rd world of football where he truly belongs.

It's not that he's been crap it's that he's been selfish. Taking the penalty ahead of Palmer - why?? He's more interested in himself than the team. That's what riles people.

Let's put some context behind that stat.

4 of them were against top half teams

5 of them against teams in the relegation zone.

2 against 2nd half of the table teams (Wolves were 11th when he got an assist against them)

6 of them against Championship teams.

It's nothing special, it's poor for a player of his supposed standard.

One can look at it how one wants but he's our second most productive player behind only Palmer. His "supposed standard" doesn't mean that much to be as he's been part of a highly dysfunctional team for two consecutive seasons and he's generally been one of the few who's produced something on occasion.

Not defending him but what players before him didn’t even do that .. Ziyech, mount, Havertz, pulisic.. the lot.

i just think that poch maybe tried to give him a boost by playing against championship level opinion.. but clearly his head was a mess with the euro team.. the entire media has been about how it’s Sterling dropped .. the fact is there  are a lot of players not picked .

this was a risky move by poch and it hasn’t  paid out  for him..having said that Sterling was atrocious.. I struggle to remember worse performances from a Chelsea player.. I think Ziyech in the UCL the match that TT got sacked was 45 mins of dross.. I think Morata against arsenal in the 2-2 ..

And none of them were good enough either, which is why the likes of Ziyech, Havertz and Pulisic would often become squad players. Mount was a regular because he offered more than just goals and assists. Sterling is often terrible even when he scores or assists. He gets more wrong than right in a 90+ minute game of football and he also adds a bit of comically bad to it too.

Has to be a talking point amongst the directors as one to be sold and free up wages for a player that actually deserves it. Horrible, selfish player.

As @Term_X stated, his face will forever remind us of our banter era.

But how. He holds the cards.  If Sterling doesn't want to move nothing is going to happen though.

He scored 4 penalties and missed 5  in his entire career, Why is he even taking them in the first place ? Why is he even in contention ?!

Because he's a selfish twat, we've got a team full of kids and a weak manager.

And look at the minutes he's played. He's played double the amount of minutes as Mudryk and he's 2 goals and 7 assists ahead, on average Mudryk would have more goals and be close to him on assists. Madueke is only 3 goals off him with only a 1/4 of Sterlings game time.

You always keep making excuses for him, you were literally saying it's okay for him to be lazy because the players around him aren't playing up to standard, almost laughable.
