Lol this piece is exactly why I don't subscribe to The Athletic, it's pure dross. A single example given by an anonymous source is dressed up with forum-level speculation and fantasy, and presented as gospel truth.

A million words that could be condensed into 100 to put over the same article, it's so far up its own arse it can clean its teeth from the inside.

For all the flack Potter has got, I don’t see a group of players who have downed tools. Last night every player on the pitch put in the yards as they have in previous matches. Is the quality good enough from some? Probably not. Hopefully the CF issue is solved  in summer along with the keeper and DM as we still appear to have a group of players trusting the process. The new manager will inherit a good group.

I honestly had a chuckle last night after Bruno repeated potters famous line the lads gave every thing 😂😂 . We definitely need a new team in asap

I don't mind it too much when they actually did, the line became a caricature because Potter was using it even in games like that dismal lost vs Arsenal.

For me the situation is very simple. Chelsea have a quality squad that just needs a modern manager to unlock everybody's potential. If you take the squad one by one player, you will see they all prefer to play a positive brand of football, direct, always forward. I'm not saying we should be playing Guardiola ball because Guardiola is in a league of his own and sets his team to play like no other, but look at Napoli for example, there is no tiki taka, no 90% possession, they don't pass the ball 1200 times every match, it's high intensity, high pressing, direct football. Can Chelsea play the same way, too? Absolutely. Just needs the right manager to set them to always play on the front foot.

That's what Potter did wrong, he tried this dire, boring football with 50 passes before taking a shot, instead of trying a more direct style of football that's better fit for the current squad.

Chilwell was on the field.

Last time Cucumbers played LCB he was man of the match (dortmund 2nd leg).

Tuchel also spoke of Cucumber playing LCB

So the issue wasn’t Cucu playing in the position he did, or the players around him. It was simply a really bad individual brain fart.

I think you missed the point. It's not how bad the mistake was, Jose just wouldn't use Cucurella as a LCB because he generally doesn't play a 3 CB system.

Also Potter then put Chilwell(possibly the most offensive player at the time) on CB as well. Potter just didn't have a clue what to do months ago and he's just there picking up paychecks.

I was about to say the same thing.  Having read a few articles on the athletic about Chelsea sackings in my time they really love to dramatise every little insignificant detail.  I mean I know footballers are drama queens now days but players having to sit on the floor of the changing room and change in the corridor, come on, and what can Potter do about that he didn't buy all these players?  Same with the extra 9 v 9 training sessions, what if we had a regular 25 man squad, wouldn't 3 players need to sit on the sidelines?  The lets win the F*ing Champions league is a nothing statement too.   As for the Harry Potter nicknames, who here has never given a nickname to your managers/boss?

In the end none of this would matter if we where winning on the pitch.  With a new manager most of these so called issues wouldn't change.  If Sir Alex was brought in tomorrow and instantly declared we're gonna win the f*ing champions league, I doubt ol' red nose would be a failure too.  The sole reason he was sacked was because he wasn't good enough.

Potter was way out of his depth, at first I wanted to believe our new owners were a professional outfit with a solid plan to pick up the reigns at Chelsea and carry on where Roman left off

Pretty soon it became obvious on and off the pitch that they are in reality the complete opposite-

Fired TT, whether you like or dislike his style of play he won 3 trophies and lost 3 cup finals in a very short period of time

Fire nearly all of the inherited Chelsea FC staff , replace medical dept. with Dave Grohl's personal trainer

Hire Potter and co for 22 million put him on a 5 year mental contract

Spend 600 mill on an assortment of players with no obvious recruitment strategy, we really needed a goalie, DM & striker we got none of those and now we are Pants (league table doesn't lie 11th is a disgrace for a club of our level and recent history)

In conclusion bye bye Potter take your stat based castrated football somewhere else and have a good mid table career !!

If Bully & Co mess up the new appointment and the on pitch form continues next season Im sure their backers at Clearlake Capital will replace them.

It's looking like Frank is set to take over till the end of the season. Sky reporting that he could be in charge for the Wolves game on Saturday.

Let's hope so.

Really don't think this is the way to go.

bringing frank back as interim is just embarrassing.  why not just leave bruno until we sign someone.

Reading bits that Bruno would rather not be around, especially if Potter lines himself up for a move soon. Potter at Forest, wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility tbh.

I think Leicester is more likely.

Whoever recommended Potter should not be anywhere near the club!!!

Looking at our current remaining games we will be lucky to hit 50 points .. that is what it has come to. He should have been sacked 10 games prior to this shambles.

I don't really rate Enrique. Outside of Barcelona, where he had everything and even then wasn't universally loved, I don't think he has been impressive in any job.

He got Celta Vigo 9th with no money. A year before him they escaped relegation by a point and the 5 years before that they were in the second tier and even came close to dropping to the third.

In other words, he did the "proper challenge" Beth from Barnsley said Pep has to do to prove himself.

Potter was always a strange appointment. Stayed up last season with 3rd lowest no of goals. This season was 4th after 7 games and everyone thought he was gods gift. Plenty of critics here for always changing side and playing players out of position. An example is March who last season plat RW  LW LWB and LB.  Mitoma was in and out of side and played on right and left. Both have starred this season played every game and played in one position. It is what De Zerbi has achieved that is outstanding. Now 4th highest scorers and unless there is an injury cant remember him bring a defensive sub on. Take recent Bournemouth game one up for 70 mins,no question of trying to hold on as all 4 subs were attacking players.

From Potter down so much is now wrong with Chelsea where my Father is a ST holder. Everyone you took from Brighton has had different aims for all of there careers. Why on earth did you want people from Brightons recruitment team. They have always had different aims doubt they have any contacts at major worlds best clubs where Chelsea will be doing business

Cucurella another odd one. He helped us out at CB a few times to cover injuries but was not great. He was outstanding as an attacking FB and sometimes LWB. Just strange he is now playing at CB as if Potter didnt want to leave either him or Chilwell out. Looks like Potter not brave enough to make a difficult decision and just pick one of them.

Fact is you have so many very good players and looks good for next season if new manager makes his mind up his best 20ish player sticks to it and not worried about upsetting anyone whatever they cost

Good luck

So you posted as a Brighton fan then a Chelsea fan then your old man is a Chelsea fan then back it would appear to you being a Brighton fan good luck with the therapy mate.

1 step forward.....2 steps back.

The glory-hunting instant success whores on here should be careful what they wish for.

Last game with Potter you saw a team that dominated play, had 29 shots, should have scored at least 3 or 4, and won comfortably, but didn't because our players can't finish their dinner.

Today you saw a team outplayed and outfought, had hardly any real chances, didn't deserve to score, and couldn't create the chances for our players to miss.
