Most of Caicedo's criticism come from Chelsea fans who used to watch Kante basically single handedly win 1 v 3 battle. I mean I'd say he's doing better than Kante in this specific role, despite the narrative on the contrary Kante was never a sitting DM. He'll likely never eclipse Kante on a B2B role however, something we'll hopefully get a glimpse off whenever the hell Lavia's fit.
January 27, 20242 yr I think Caicedo is doing fine here. Of course he isn't setting the world on fire but has had a lot of good performances for us and is more productive as an all round midfielder rather than a defensive midfielder IMO. Most of his criticism comes from the media who mention his price tag constantly (something he had no control over BTW) or comparing him to Declan Rice, who is obviously a top player, but is a full 3 years older than Caicedo. The best is yet to come and he will shine once we have a dedicated defensive midfielder I think. Don't let the media and fans of other clubs cloud your judgement.
January 27, 20242 yr He looked very sharp versus Villa. I really like him as a player. Once our manager starts utilising him properly he'll look even better.

At some point in future Caicedo will be lauded as one of the best DM's in the league when we start scoring and winning. You need to play for one of the top sides to get these mentions.

This is what Kante gave us for years.
January 31, 20242 yr Why is Poch isolating Caicedo so much in the build up? Enzo and Gallagher as high as Palmer when Caicedo is picking the ball up from the CB’s. His performances have improved since his poor start but Jesus Christ Poch isn’t helping the lad at all.

Isolation in build, cut through like swiss cheese in defensive transition. Genuinely baffling.

The space between him and the attack is ridiculous, he hasn't any passing outlets every time he picks the ball up.
January 31, 20242 yr Slow is the best way to sum up Caicedo. Slowing moving, slow reactions, slow passing. He looks scared and is looking like one of those players that can't handle the step up in expectations.

To be fair if you look at the above picture would you not be scared if you were surrounded by 5 scousers in Liverpool?!

Enzo and Caicedo need to be closer together, as a team, if we are going to play out from the back, we need to work on the movement and rotation of players in midfield and attack to play through it. At the moment Caicedo gets the ball and Enzo runs away, Gallagher runs away, it gets recycled across the back until someone is brave enough to play forward or carry forward, then we lose ball. Honestly its shocking management, especially when.you consider how much time he has had on the training ground.
January 31, 20242 yr I fully appreciate that offensively Caicedo is going to struggle with this tactic set up. Only thing he can control is his defensive actions and I don't believe he is good enough in this regard.

This I like Poch want him to continue but it’s his setup in midfield that’s making two very good players look bad in this instance. This is the most important part of the pitch lose the midfield battle and forget the rest of the tactics. We are consistently losing the battle in midfield. Last year Caicedo was dominating practically every match he played in the only thing as changed is he’s now playing in a different tactical setup.
February 1, 20242 yr Enzo and gallagher certainly are not helping Caicedo out, they both play like number 10s and leave poor Caicedo alone. We need both gallagher and enzo further back to help out and when in attack only one should go further up. I remember when Ballack and Lampard played together, although both were box to box midfielders one stayed back to help out Essien or whoever played as a dm.

Yeah against other teams you can maybe get away with it enough to win. Against Liverpool you get murdered.

The space between Caicedo and the other 2 was ridiculous last night, he was constantly receiving the ball form CB`s, turning round only to see absolutely no one to pass to.

I'm not sure how much of it was space, as much as we just got out played in every capacity, work rate and intensity chief among them. Liverpool are benefiting from what would seem like a "new manager boost", the announcement of klopp leaving has increased their desire this season. We should have been ready for that and we weren’t even close. I wasn’t to joke about the mess that was VAR and the rubbish reff but had we got anything out of that game it would have been a robbery.
February 2, 20242 yr I think our team play was very cowardly too.. How many times did a CB run with the ball.. it was childish at times.. they had 4 players waiting to press Caicedo everytime he had the ball.. if only for a silva or badiashile had stepped up with the ball it would have created an extra man in the midfield and broken their press.. Despite all what we think Disasi and Badi are decent footballers with ball at their feet. We need a manager who trusts them.. Poch is not playing to the strengths of this team.

Remind me please, how much did Brighton pay us to take him off their hands? Was it less or more than they paid us to take Cuserella? 🫣

February 4, 20242 yr Author Cracking ball for Palmers goal. Silva own goal shows, once more, why he needs a DM behind him. They press him off the ball, the other 2 are further up and Wolves are in on the back 2.

He is left doing a 2 man job while Enzo is out there leading the press (madness!). A stronger manager would have dropped Enzo & told him to cut out the crap, but Poch is weak.
