RIP Legend Gianluca Vialli

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone else here went to the legends game at the bridge a few years back against Inter legends, but Vialli was managing the Chelsea legends that day. I think he was actually due to play but had to pull out as he was unwell.

In spite of that he was in really good form, was getting the crowd going throughout and just generally being an entertaining on the touch line.

I imagine the club will pay a fitting tribute at our next home game.

Gutted. There goes a hero. Drove to Forest to see him make his debut in a friendly. First time I heard the VIALLI, VIALLY, VIALLY chant.

Great at making runs across the line. Apparently he had incredible lung { despite being a smoker} and used to obliterate beep tests.

Gentleman and total legend RIP

Absolutely gutted.

He managed us at a time when there was a real buzz about the club. The third place finish he managed to secure was amazing for the time.

He always seemed like such a top man - and I loved the guy.

RIP Luca. I will always remember your role in the turnaround against liverpool (4v2 win in FA cup - John Motson "it's 4v2 Chelsea and Mark Wright and Liverpool look absolutely bewildered - where did he come from?" after Luca scored the 3rd and 4th) and the goal against Tromso.

You will be missed - the world is a worse place without you.

Barnsley fan here. Heard the news about Gianluca Vialli this morning. I knew he'd been unwell but this is still dreadfully sad.

Remember his display against us early on in the 97-98 season. Still to this day the best individual performance I've ever seen from an opposition player at Oakwell. Obviously we were shell shocked by the scoreline, especially as we didn't even play particularly badly, but it was a privilege to witness such a masterclass in finishing. I'd grown up watching Vialli in Serie A on Channel 4 as a kid, but seeing him in the flesh was something else.

By all accounts he was not just a brilliant player, but an extremely fine gentleman as well. Thanks for the memories Gianluca.
