June 3, 20233 yr If this is done now perhaps a small edit to actually spell his name correctly in the thread title ? 🙂

June 4, 20233 yr Haven't see this guy play but this video, which seemed "realistic" suggests that he would play outside of Enzo and Enzo would stay in the six role. His rash tackles and ineffectiveness in attack are clear limitations although I am not against it. We need energy and power and ball winning in the midfield. If you play him and Enzo as a double pivot with two attacking wing backs for me we will still run into the same problems as before, not enough goals. I am becoming more and more convinced that a 4 3 3 is the natural way for chels to go with two muscle mids (enzo ugarte = ballack and essien) and a creative goal scoring one (??? = Lampard). However Ballack and Essien in their prime were quite good in attack. It can be done. Conte showed how Alonso and Moses made space for Hazard and Pedro/Willian to come inside assisted by Costa's strength in the middle so that even though the wing backs and central mids didn't score many goals the attackers did. That worked, but only for one season and required Kante and Matic to successfully do a huge midfield job. Nkunku wont be Costa and will need a different system, a safer route is a goal scoring mid, less reliance on injury prone wing backs. Just my opinion.
June 4, 20233 yr Author Curious to seem if this guy is what we really need, or just a square peg in a round hole.

Tell me I'm wrong please. 🙂 The video I also saw .. makes me nervous.. not a great first touch .. falls down the moment there is contact.. I really hope I am wrong on this one.
June 4, 20233 yr Not sure where this leaves us should be we sign him. I don't think he will come to us if he wasn't promised a starting role, if he wants more money and easier ride he would have gone to PSG. Is Knate staying or gone, assume we are still into Caicedo, that's already 3 starting players in Enzo/Ugarte/Caicedo, that's assuming Kante is gone ( a big lose ). Who knows, we may even put in a last minute bid for Rice right after he agreed terms with them.

And plays the role that Dier played for Tottenham in a 4 3 3. That allows Enzo, James and Chilwell to progress forward
June 4, 20233 yr I have never watched him play but whoever play in our midfield need to be a ready player. No project, no luxury player.
June 4, 20233 yr Manuel Ugarte should arrive in London next week to carry out medical tests, Record finds out that the contract is minimum 6 seasons, the agreement was closed yesterday. (@Record_Portugal) #CFC 6 year deal
June 4, 20233 yr Does this officially mean the end of Kante? I read that Pochettino doesn’t like older players. The fact it’s all gone quiet makes me think Kante will go.

I think so. I did previously read that we were trying to extend him for a year but now there seems to be some uncertainty if that ever happened. So it could be that Kante leaves, regardless. Galatasaray talking apparently from what I read.
June 4, 20233 yr Seb doubling down now regarding Ugarte, pretty much killed my enthusiasm on this since he watches the Portuguese league closely and is one of our best analysts, genuinely never seen him make a wrong call about a player. Just hope our ‘professional’ scouts and Pochettino have studied this guys every move, including the way he brushes his teeth and which sock goes on first, we can’t afford more flops.

If they’re the 4 worst videos of him then he can be that bad. The first video he’s fouled the next 2 he dribbles past his man, ok he’s tackled in the last. Also in all 4 videos I count 2 arms.
June 4, 20233 yr Barely know about him as a player however Pochettino seems to adamantly want him so he probably will play a key role in how Pochettino wants us to play.
June 4, 20233 yr This rumour is gathering pace. Probably done deal in a few days. Enzo - Ugarte has a ton of potential. Santos and Casadei to deputise near future.

Caicedo interest completely changes things. Not sure what the plan is if we get him and Ugarte. Could be that Pochettino has evolved from having an attacking mid/CF and wants a more balanced and strong midfield 3. Who knows.

Saw this a while back too (Tifo video) which was why I could see Pochettino leaning towards 3 midfielders. Sterling and Nkunku inside forwards.
June 4, 20233 yr @benjacobs: Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign Manuel Ugarte, whose preference is to join #CFC over PSG. As @FabrizioRomano reported, there is optimism a deal can be completed. #CFC still in the race for Moises Caicedo. Should Ugarte arrive that won’t change. Caicedo is not short of interest. #AFC remains a possibility as well. Player currently open to offers rather than fixed on one club. One other small point on Ugarte. Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart very much driving this one in a move that significantly pre-dates Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino will obviously work very closely with the recruitment team, but Ugarte isn't a 'new' Chelsea target.🔵
June 4, 20233 yr Chelsea right now are in Portugal trying to complete the Manuel Ugarte deal. (@FabrizioRomano) #CFC
