Poch already begging to keep his job by saying the owner has to support the project lol

6 games in we have 5 f**king points, as Chelsea FC, these owners are literally criminals for turning us into a joke

Ironically the only opportunity Poch has of surviving the season is convincing the owners that their project is as moronic as every person involved in football sees it,  shipping out 6 or 7 of the young players we've just signed in January and supplementing the rest of the child army with 4 or 5 quality experienced professionals.

No manager can get results with the dog sh*t squad of poor youth talents we've assembled,  the owners will have massive expectations because of the amount they've spent but they've spent it so poorly they haven't given the manager a chance.

Yea but you expect those clueless owners to blame themselves instead of blaming others ? lol

When we had the transfer ban under Frank we had an exciting bunch of youth players and reasonably managed expectations. That was a fun team to get behind and watch. Now we have spent 1 billion to seemingly have a team looking even less ready for first team football than our academy prospects. Absolutely nuts and it is awful to watch for the most part.

shipping them out permanently or temporarily and who are these experienced players? Two of our worst performers (Sterling & Silva) today were so called experienced players. And last season when we had Koulibaly, Azpi, Ziyech & Aubameyang also providing experience that didn’t work out so well.

These young talents have had less than 10 starts in a blue shirt, way too early to be calling them duds.

Personally I would stay the course and continue on this same path for the next 2 seasons as long as Poch stops playing players out of position. There is a precedent with Arsenal, and we can all remember the “trust the process” years from 2 seasons ago. People only remember the Arsenal from last season, but they had to go through growing pains to arrive here.

Ah yes, so the way Poch has set us up so far has been De Zerbi / Pep-esc masterclass coaching, of course. Ultimately, this idea that it’s all the players fault is plain wrong, a top coach WOULD get a tune out of this lot.

This view that it’s ALL because the players are raw is mind bending.

Aside from the obvious and already well commented strange decisions to date, I'd also throw these ones into the hat :

  • Given how much Pochettino was waxing lyrical about Maatsen in pre-season, I'm very surprised he has hardly played him.
  • Madueke another one who doesn't seem fancied. I can't decide whether all his niggly injuries are real or not !
  • Plus most of the youthful bright spots (for me) in pre-season (Santos, Casadei, Angelo Gabriel) all got loaned out in preference to being kept around for the first team squad. I think Santos and Casadei in particular are toast, as we've subsequently gone out and signed three further young midfielders in Caicedo, Ugochukwu and Lavia, for big fees.
  • And then we have this Washington kid who DOES get a first team squad number but I bet most of us don't even know what he looks like at this point LOL. Given how short we are of goals, why have we not seen him on the pitch ?  If it's because he is raw and not good enough, then why even give him a squad number ?

Well he's not wrong. Ownership has given him an abundance of inexperienced footballers for him to develop at the same time. As others have alluded to, they don't develop over night. It takes time.

Poch however isn't helping himself by restricting the team from goals, IE only 2 bodies in the box for delivery. We already struggle to finish chances, why restrict goals from the side even more?

It's still quite sh*thousery vibes for me, bin Silva, play Colwill in the centre, let Chilwell have a go with Mudryk on the left. Gallagher is just playing in safe mode, the boy is just good at running around and not much for anything else.

Would love to see us take more of a risk out there, playing like this isn't exactly doing us any favours is it. I feel as though we could play for 5 hours and still not score a goal.

It’s crazy that I'm yearning for the days we were transfer banned.

With 4 of our next 6 league matches against Spuds, Arsenal, City, and Newcastle I honestly think we will be in the bottom 3 after that run. Frightening stuff.

Poch knew he had to hit the ground running at the start of the season. The Nkunku injury completely rattled him. Undoubtedly.

As you alluded to, his system adaptation away from Nkunku in the team is safe and riskless. Of the 6 matches we played, this system only made sense in 1 of them. Liverpool. He is equally as responsible despite those putting all blame on Clearlake. People want to mention we were down to 10 men, but who honestly can say with a straight face we'd score with 11? It's borderline pathetic that this is the best we can produce with a whole week off to train, with the same issues still present as if they weren't ever worked on.

Maybe we would've of been better having conference league football this season. Maybe not. Like I said earlier, this whole club from top to bottom is in the mud and equally responsible. They need to get out of this rut together.

Frankly, we don't have a choice.
All our eggs are in the basket already so it's literally sink (potentially to the Championship) or swim. We are so leveraged and jam packed with amortizations that even if someone came in and wanted to change course and bring in some proven seniors who are leaders and proven quality we likely can't do it anymore.

It's clear what I think of this project. I've maintained it was going to go to hell long before that happened but now it seems most have lost faith completely and how can you blame them.

Fans need to accept we are in the banter era and will be here for a while. Makes defeats that much easier.

All clubs have hit these periods, although our spending makes it very, very embarrassing.

Since you think rdz is a magician, go watch brighton vs bournemouth.

Personally I don't consider Silva an experienced player for the same reason Azpi, Koulibaly and Auba weren't last season.  They're just too old they've passed the point of experience and are just in physical decline. They can be useful in moments but you can't go into the season depending on them week after week.

When I say experienced I'm talking about players in their physical primes between 24 and 30 who have had multiple good seasons under their belts that's the sweet spot and we don't have many players there.  Sterling, Chilwell, Sanchez?  Not really anyone else there.  Reece and Nkunku are the only two injured.

I don't have high hopes for the young players but it isn't about them being duds we've just signed way too many and need to cut some of them out to build a competitive squad.

Imagine that instead of having Madueke, Chukuwmeka, Mudryk, Broja, Jackson and Palmer you replaced 2 of them with experienced quality (Toney?) (Raphina? Maddison?) and had the others developing alongside of them.

Sticking Silva with a bunch of kids may balance out the average age but it doesn't give us a good balance.

We had good combination of veteran (willian, Giroud, kante, jorgi, etc2) and the young player was not as raw as what we have right now. It was clear Pulisic, James, Tomori, mount, n Tammy could play straight away.

I'm totally with you here ducavis. But at least @Whats_The_Mata? has finally stopped whining for a moment and put his head above the parapet and actually listed his proven at the highest level "top young players" we should have been signing. Here it is.

"Top under 25 players I'd have expected to have been linked with if we're spending a billion are players like Leao, Wirtz, Gavi, Pedri, Musiala, Napoli winger who's name I can't spell with a K, Oshenheim, Martinelli, Saliba, Camavinga, Saka, Haaland, Mbappe, Vinicus, Rodrygo, Tonali, Bellingham, Tchoumeni, Lautoro Martinez, Valerde, Bastoni, Ousmane Dembele, Muani, Vlahovic etc.

Quality young players that have performed at the highest level and have sky high ceilings".

But how many of these were realistic, credible targets? How many of these would their clubs have been willing to sell? How many would have wanted to actually come? There's a number on his list who in my opinion, aren't yet proven at the highest level. Leao, Dembele (he's 26 by the way), Vlahovic. Would they be a guaranteed  success in the EPL? Tonali is on his list and I think he has made a reasonable start for Newcastle, especially his debut, but nothing to blow your socks off. He was only a sub for them today.

Where we have made mistakes IMO is that there were proven EPL quality players available who we could have brought in over the past couple of seasons that would have made a difference. Bissouma is one I banged on about constantly when he was at Brighton and he is now tearing it up at Tottenham. Madison was also the right profile of player we could have done with. A player comfortable operating as a genuine 10. Callum Wilson might have done a half decent job up front. And though @axman2526 has never heard of him before James Ward-Prowse also has a bit of quality about him and a great work rate.

OK, they're not super-sexy football superstars, (not all players have to be), and yes, again, it's all in hindsight. But it's way more realistic and credible than simply name checking M'bappe, Haaland, Vinicius, Bellingham, Musiala etc. as players we should have brought. That's just cloud-cuckoo land or playing too much EA Football Manager.
