Upgrade from Kepa (not hard) still think we could do better though

I don't think we can without spending an unreasonable amount of money right now. If we were to spend 70m I'd rather it be on an attacker. Distribution aside, I've been very impressed with him.

I know he's a bit mental at times but I feel far safer with him between the sticks than I ever did with Kepa.

What I like about him is that even after some crazy passing mistakes, he just keeps going and doesn’t let if affect him. Very good quality, that.
Watching Kepa against Napoli I’m learning to appreciate Sanchez even more!

Good at goalkeeping, needs to clean up his passing though. Had one very dangerous pass again today. Lucky the Fulham attacker didn'z make anything of it.

Apparently he has the highest success rate with passing. He does need to stop giving away those silly ones though. That's my main issue so far.

I thought he was a waste of money when we signed him, I still need to see more before I am convinced that he is any better than 2nd choice keeper, but I think he is better than the two that left. His reflexes are as good as Kepa's and better than Mendy's, his passing is a better Kepa's and especially Mendy's, but the biggest plus point over Kepa and Mendy is that he can claim a set piece. Kepa was terrible at it and once Mendy lost confidence, he was terrible from set pieces.

I was reading through some of the Champions League match reports from last night's matches, when I came across this little nugget from the BBC sports website on the Napoli v Real Madrid game.

"Rudi Garcia, who replaced Luciano Spalletti as Napoli manager in the summer, would have been pleased with the way his side got going on home soil, pressing Real high up the field and forcing the Spanish giants to cheaply give away possession.

They deservedly broke the deadlock from a set-piece as Chelsea loanee goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga came for the cross but ended up punching thin air"

Thought this was a crap signing at the time.

Seeing the performances he’s put in compared to what else was on the market ie Onana it’s actually looking like smart business.

A tricky start to his career as true to Chelsea form every shot in the first four games appeared to fly in. Since then, he’s making plenty of good saves. Quietly going about his business, and that’s fine with me. The less we are talking about a GK the better!

Late in the Fulham game there was a moment with a dangerous set piece and he claimed it like it was nothing..

I like what he brings so far..

Great to have some experience in the team. Glad we found this old geezer laying around. To think we bought someone over 21...🤣

This dude is already 25. Almost over the hill.

His nickname in the squad is Gramps.

Panchez is a pretty standard gk. For a top team you can certainly do better.

So far he's done well. Apart from the times he's done his Onana-impression passing straight to opponents feet.

After 6 years of Kepa followed by Mendy's downfall I'm delighted with a pretty standard goalkeeper.

And that is kinda our problem for years. Sanchez is pretty standard yet most of us prefer him to Kepa (Mendy for that 1 season was arguably the best gk in the world so I give him a pass)

Tbf I'd go as far as saying Allison is the only elite level GK in the Premier League.

Ederson is perfect for City. For us probably not.

Ask any City fan and they’ll tell you he’s a shaky shot stopper.

Allison genuinely doesn’t have a glaring weakness.

We heavily criticized Drogba at one point. When you are only winning you look at details. We are not there.

Ederson's been brilliant for them because he is so relaxed with the ball under heavy pressure. He also stops shots. Probably not the best in that but very good at that.

He's excelling the same way Victor Valdes did, who I also never rated as an elite keeper.

So long as the system mitigates their liabilities but amplifies their strengths, they'll be fine. Sanchez could be that lad. Time will tell.
