Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea

He's been messing up possession with no real pressure on him every week, should have caught up with us a few times now. In a way where he had very little to do, to gift wrap points to Arsenal was just unacceptable. Usually after an error like that the GK should be dropped, but what other options do we have? Very little, haven't seen the other GKs play this season.

Yeah, it’s happened every single game  - multiple times - so I think its pretty clear now Sanchez can’t be our goalkeeper if we wish to play out from the back. I’m mostly angry that all our assembled talent identifiers can’t do better than to go back and buy the third choice goalkeeper from their old club for 25 million - and he doesn’t even fit the way we play.
Oh well, have to hope they did a better job on Petrovic now

Give Petrovic a chance. Sanchez is not good enough on the ball for modern football. This is the reason Brighton dropped him.

I know that people will say they hate the idea of ball playing keepers and I kind of agree as well but it's just not going to happen.

I also noticed how scared Sanchez looked even before the error. He was not good at all at commanding the box today.

His distribution throughout the game was excellent apart from that one mistake.

Kepa wouldn’t have made those errors, still rate him much higher than Sanchez.

Would Kepa have managed to save some than Sanchez had this season, maybe not, but he would’ve been much more switched on yesterday.

Those errors yesterday were Mendy level of awful.

It really wasn't, I'd be amazed if he had more than 50% success with his passing, it was all  over the place.

Sanchez yesterday still got to a couple of Arsenal corners’ balls that Kepa would have let in. Sanchez wasn’t good yesterday, but let’s not rewrite Kepa’s poor defending of corners and high balls or shots from outside the area.

Did he? I remember him being completely all over the place.

- Failed to clear the simplest ball and nearly gave Colwill a concussion. Had that been Jesus it would've been a penalty.

- Completely left his box to follow Saka for whatever f**king reason. Lucky we had Silva and Gusto to clean up his mess.

- Decided to give Arsenal a life line with that suicide pass when Arsenal were practically packing up home and calling it a night.

Liabilities. He's been doing this all season and judging from Brighton fans this was one of the reasons he was dropped. No falling out with the manager. A manager never drops someone they trust.

I haven’t said that he didn't make many mistakes and have said that he was poor. In 5e second half he managed to deflect over the bar a ball from a corner which Kepa would not have got to. He was really poor, I repeat, but there’s a stretch to suddenly everyone now wanting Kepa back ffs.

I for one would love if we try to fix our problems by working on them and not just look for the market. Sanchez is a good goalie in most aspects but he has a tendency of passing dangerous passes. Why not work with him on that instead of looking at the Onana's of the world.

I also think Sanchez' head is a good one but that also needs some work. He has that happy go lucky mentality which he he sees as his strength but he needs to work on that. I bet Thiago Silva could and will speak to him in a way he understands he can't make these mistakes anymore.

Dreadful mistake and didn’t exactly spread himself well for the equiliser. Still think he’s an upgrade on Kepa but would be looking to improve on him soon.

I'm wondering if he could have come and collected the cross for the 2nd goal. A confident keeper would have tried it.

The one thing the team should have done early on is get hold of Sanchez and try and calm him down. He was a bag of nerves from the first minute. Every corner he was looking for the ref to bail him out. Now that he has shown that weakness, every other team will put pressure on him.

Who wants Kepa back?

God no...  I just want a keeper to do the basics like keep the ball out of the net and doesn't make mistakes. If he can't kick a ball, then find two defenders who can play and he can play it to them.

Was more replying in question to the post before, but yea, am with you! It feels like now the team is playing well, the goalkeeping position is really lagging behind and costing games. We need a Cech or Courtois version 2 going forward.

The team is set up for the goalkeeper to be involved and pass the ball.

You either change that style, have him go only very short or very long, if you feel he is good enough in his other aspects as a keeper, or you change the keeper.

Petrovic is an unknown. Best keeper in the MLS by some distance they say, but does that really mean anything? It's a tinpot league.

We call for Petrovic in the hope he is both a class keeper and a top passer of the ball. Maybe he is, maybe he has Mendys kicking and Turnbulls keeping ability. We just don't know.

Hopefully being the best keeper in the MLS means something and he turns out to be a top, top player. Should see him vs Blackburn I reckon.

Throwing Petrovic into the next game would be a huge risk in my opinion. Slonina looked great in MLS too but from what I have seen of him is not ready for a Premier League game. I would give him a start against Blackburn and see how he does. Sanchez cost us yesterday and I have some concerns over his gaffes. But overall he has done ok in most games recently. I still see Sanchez as a backup keeper long term, and am hoping we will sign a better option when we have a chance.

Do we know any keeper that fits the bill that's both available and ready now for at least 5 good years?

I'm so glad Onana Trainwreck is gone so now we can actually focus on getting someone decent, but besides Maignan I'm unaware of other suitable candidates.

I would've loved Dibu Martinez for a few years until we see what we do with Slonina or even now Petrovic.

Poch did say in his presser that it is our philosophy to take risks in our build up, which I appreciate but sometimes players just need to boot it. Especially when there is now a striker on the pitch.

For me that goal has fault attached to Enzo and Gallagher aswell, the former for assuming the pass was going straight to a Chelsea player and the latter for letting Rice sneak infront of him.

Agreed on Conor. I have mentioned it a few times, and am one of his biggest fans. But could Enzo really have done anything? Surley the ball was too far away from him?
