October 6, 20241 yr That save at the end was save of the season. Got down to scoop it up and out for a corner instead of hitting it straight back into the danger area.
October 6, 20241 yr He certainly earned us a point today - keeping us in it at the end. Fair play. A shame that we are in the situation of needing to hold on against 10 men.
October 6, 20241 yr In all honesty, Sanchez is being made to work too much. He has to make too many saves. We are facing too many shots on target per game.
October 6, 20241 yr Today's saves, in particular the one at the end, and Bournemouth penalty is probably worth 5 points to us this season. Still makes me nervous with his passing, but all credit to his shot stopping.
October 6, 20241 yr Feeds in to my opinion that his big failing is concentration. In a game like today where he's kept busy there's no problems, it's when we dominate a game and he's standing around doing nothing where his mistakes begin.
October 6, 20241 yr He has always been a good shot stopper, it's the outgoing balls that give him trouble. Much better at reaction than anticipation. He sure saved our ass today.
October 6, 20241 yr Credit where it is due. If it was not for him, we lose to Bournemouth and today. Has a lot of upside if he can just cut out the stupid decisions he makes.
October 7, 20241 yr Man Sanchez is an enigma to say the least. Against Brighton he made 2 mistakes that led to conceded goals which both were 100% preventable. Against Nottingham he saved us twice in the end with world class saves. I know Maresca defended him by saying those 2 Brighton goals were not entirely up to him. They both were 100%. I watch a lot of Prem games and in all fairness we are not very good building from the back. And the keeper is usually the culprit in our cases. Always with Sanchez. And building from the back is always a team effort. Sanchez is put under bad spots here and there by the team BUT he could always opt for a long ball. That is 100% his choice. He is the player that decides whether it is too difficult to pass to Caicedo or to blast it away. As a team we will learn as we go naturally. The game has changed over the years but I am 100% sure Cech would have learned how to play from the back ages ago and never harm the team. Petr naturally is one of the all time best keepers ever but still. Chelsea's always had great keepers even the ol De Goey had his days. I would love to see Jorgensen given a chance in a Prem game.

Sanchez saves us against Bournemouth and once more against Forest yesterday. I don't think he is the long term solution but unless he costs us points, which he hasn't yet, then his place should be guaranteed. Sure, he had a howler against Brighton but we won.

He hasn't cost us any points only because out attack is actually clicking this season. Its been one game since the forum unanimously agreed he wasn't good enough after the two huge Brighton howlers. One game later he's good enough again. Fickle bunch, Sanchez is bang average and one game isn't changing that.

If he ends the season doing well for 85% of the matches, would you not say he's good enough?

That 15% can be the difference between a top 4 finish or a cup win. He pulled out some brilliant saves against Forest but I still sh*t myself every time the ball gets passed to him

I just saw Diogo Costa throw away their win against United the other day for letting in 2 near post goals.

I don't need perfection at all, but if we take the current top keepers then how often do Ederson, the snake or Allison have an off game? Very rarely, the mistakes they make 2 or 3 times a season happen every 5 or 6 games with Sanchez.
October 9, 20241 yr Yup, need a top keeper to challenge for the title. Top Keeper saves 20+ goals or more per season... Top Striker scores 20+ goals or more per season... Edited October 9, 20241 yr by Bebe1980
October 9, 20241 yr To be fair he made some good saves in the last few games, would have lost if he didn't save that shot in OT. It's the ones he let in that bothered people, the one last weekend was a soft one, 2 the week before was a bit of comedy ( although that game was comedy too)

October 10, 20241 yr We are playing better teams over the next few weeks so we’ll really find out if he has improved or not. Give away a silly goal at Liverpool or against Arsenal for example and the whole game could change direction in that moment. If he can get through the next few weeks without any calamities and he’ll rightly be our number one keeper.
