I agree. 'they're too young to care or have any fight in them' blah blah. The trick is not to take it all to heart. Cole Palmer was written off before he kicked a ball for us by some but this is normal in football forum life. All I want is a repeat performance against the pretenders that are newcastle next week. I have always felt that with every player at poch's disposal we could have it with any team in the league.
November 12, 20232 yr Crazy match but fun to watch. Would of taken a draw before this match so I can't be disappointed with this outcome, in fact I think there's a few positives to take from this. Fighting spirit to come from behind 3 times, cutting them open with pace and movement etc... TBH for years I've been wanting us to go toe to toe with the big teams in the big matches in this league, and to be fair I think we have this season, and outplayed some of them as well. If we can be more clinical and put away the teams that come and sit deep we'll be in business. Going in the right direction IMO.

When we went forward he held back to cover transitions, I don't think he was expected to play forward. It was a very Kante'esque performance. I agree, I thought Caicedo has been very good for us so far and has helped us dominate midfield against the likes of Arsenal and at times against City. Not all heroes wear capes.
November 12, 20232 yr Would have taken a draw before hand, thought we was excellent though and after scoring 4 a draw is tough to take
November 12, 20232 yr Game of the season unless something really special comes along. This is the kind of game that makes us relevant again, going toe to toe against the best in the world ( may not be the best idea but who am I to complain) and getting a well deserved point. To be fair, we should have won, but lapses in concentration ( 2 goal around H/T), poor finishing, and losing possessions in advanced positions ( Murdryk noted) cost us. Effort wise we were magnificent, and that shows what a good manager could do. We have done well against the big teams ( could have won 3/3 with a bit of luck), we just need to find a way to pick off the likes of Brentford, WestHam, Forest etc to be back in the top 6.
November 12, 20232 yr Fantastic entertainment today. The team has demonstrated its ability to compete with teams that want to play football. Sterling motm for me, Gareth done us all a big favour there the mug. Palmer is the best of the billion and was only bought bc the lad at Palace turned CFC down I reckon, thank goodness he did another mug. No goals for months and the last 2 matches 8 put in ! long may it last - back to being CAREFREE again !!

November 12, 20232 yr One of my rare jaunts to The Bridge today, was treated to an excellent match of course but I am still seething, just watched MOTD and my opinion not changed. I think our fears about Taylor continue, how can a 50:50 in the box result in favouring the attacking team. Wrong on every level unless you change the rules that aside, we have switched we are now great going forward and crap at the back. i love Silva as much as the next Chelsea fan and overall had a fine game, but I think we have to face facts the age is catching up with him at times - just to reiterate I think he had a good game. We need his replacement. I think I would like a journey man to compliment the youngsters at the back Sterling and Palmer are something special and why they snubbed by Southgate is bizarre - compare them to Grealish, Foden et al we got to be impressed on how far we come overall with Poch ! I still feel a lot of ups and downs but direction feels good, we are still a very young team. anyway ark at me, headache, knackered, still tipsy with a tad of tinnitus - enjoyed my first big day at Mecca for some time. Bring on Newcastle let’s take them on! KTBFFH
November 13, 20232 yr FF'g excellent... and the one before, let's hope we can play like that against Newcastle. Have to admit even Jackson was looking a bit dangerous yesterday - and then he got in the right place and landed a goal ! Amazing header by Silva.
November 13, 20232 yr Author Ok had time to watch highlights of the goals, Sanchez save from Haaland and nothing more. Negatives first, the ones we let in. The pen I agree @dkwthe whole incident, not just the end, should be considered. Haaland was also being smart in making that happen. He knows Marc is never beating him physically so if he scores no foul will be called and if not and he goes down with Marc's arm still on him what happened, happened. Very smart from him. Also Doku pushed Caicedo into James, was a blatant foul so the rest should not have happened anyways. 2nd goal we switched off. Who was supposed to be making the scorer? 3rd goal looks like we were not awake at the start of the half. Never thought I would see someone outmuscle Reece, Haaland really is a monster among men isn't he? 4th goal, tired leg from Silva, Sanchez is saving that shot imo, unlucky what happened, happen. 2 games in a row with the one at Spurs. Now for the good, our goals. 1st what a header and run, Silva still got it. Great balk by Conor. 2nd lovely team move, great Reece cross and vision, Sterling doing what he has done best all his career. 3rd. Shooting from outside the box! At last, and on target too. Maybe Moises started something at Spurs. Great follow up Nico. 4th, shows why Broja has nothing to give to this side and should be sold right? Least I have read that on here. Anyways you can see they were worried about him, 2 defenders going for him and Diaz makes a rash lunge as he expects Brojas next one to be a hammering shot. And that's why we call him COLD Palmer, the new talisman of Chelsea FC. Look forward to seeing more when I have time. Privately I think Poch will be very disappointed with the easy goals we gave up on goals 2 and 3.
November 13, 20232 yr Never expect that performance. Conceding 4 is normal for us this seaosn but to score 4 against city is just mighty impressive. 🤔
November 13, 20232 yr Author If Taylor does not blow up, will Cucurella play a quality ball for Broja to chase? Cause if he had the chance I know who I am picking in a foot race between tired City defenders and a fresh Broja at the halfway line.
November 13, 20232 yr Cracking match. Really proud of the lads for matching it with the benchmark team of the competition. Really promising to see us pick up points against the top sides so far this season. The key is improving against mid table and lower half teams. Anthony Taylor is a disgrace, but that’s nothing new for us Chelsea fans. Poch is learning what we’ve had to endure with him over the years.

November 13, 20232 yr Watched the game for a second time today. The difference between this team and last season's team is night and day. The effort motivation and ability. City are a good even great team without any weaknesses and they play like a great team. Yet in style of football and in some but only some of our team play we matched them. Caicedo most making a lot of good, fast decisions to start the attacks. Very impressed with him, more than with Enzo for my money. You can pretty much see how we are improving across the park particularly as the subs bench goes stronger as injured players gradually return. Once Nkunku and Carney and Lavia are fit again there will be a heap of competition in the midfield, and with big Les there already is for the enforcer role. It looks like Conor and and Enzo are fighting it out for basically one position because none of Sterling, Jackson or Palmer are getting dropped just now and Nkunku is going to come into the team. I guess Jackson could get dropped but why would you when you could play Nkunku or say Carney in Enzo's position or in Conor's? None of our defenders can head the ball like Silva but both Badiashile and Colwill can likely do as good a job defensively. Edited November 13, 20232 yr by ozboy
November 13, 20232 yr In previous seasons, you go a goal down to City and they just kill the game, keep the ball, and tire you out chasing shadows. We didn't let them do that. To come from behind three times against them is genuinely an astronomical feat. Credit to the players for not letting their heads drop (especially after City's fourth, I've heard reports Disasi scooped the ball from the net and starting screaming at the rest of the side that we're still in this), and to Poch and his staff for not only the game-plan, but for getting this side in such good shape. Typically coming from behind takes more energy, your tempo has to go up, and the other side will normally be more risk-averse on the ball. No chance we pull that off last season. I'm also impressed by the restraint that's being shown with Reece, he has the quality to change games, would have been easy to keep him on for the full 90 and then rely on the international break to let him recover. But there's clearly a plan in place for his minutes and we're sticking to it. Luckily by the time his stint was over he'd already pocketed Doku so successfully that he'd resorted to diving and had been hauled off.
November 13, 20232 yr When was the last time City conceded 4 goals? If I remember correctly it was against Everton in Pep's first season. If that's the case then what we did is very impressive.

November 13, 20232 yr This was the perfect time to go at City and the only right approach. Hats off to Poch for that. Missing KDB is a huge thing for them although they have had new production from the wing via Doku for example. City will win the league as they will be much better in the spring I suspect. They are miles off of completion and as long as Pep can bring his crazy energy to their football they will be good. We are showing signs of finding good form. Admittedly we still need space to score but if we can compete head to head against best in the country we are closer. Would have liked to face Newcastle as soon as possible but it is the damned international break once more. I don't know how many or their injured players they get back. Good sings but we are miles off still of the best. Consistency comes from experience. It takes time.
November 13, 20232 yr The fact we are scoring now, will ease the players minds against the lesser opposition, they now know they can score, so will be less anxious in front of goal. There should be less snatched shots, for worrying that it may be the only chance.
November 13, 20232 yr Here's a "two hour conference call" for all the Shed End home workers LOL https://www.chelseafc.com/en/video/full-match-chelsea-4-4-man-city-13-11-2023
November 13, 20232 yr Anyone else notice that after the City fans kept singing "Champions of Europe, we know what we are", our home fans countered "We saw you cry in Porto" ? 😂

It was a good atmosphere, to be honest, good banter with them.
November 13, 20232 yr Anyone seen the YouTube video were Kovacic appears to celebrate Palmer's penalty equaliser?
