Words i never thought i'd see on this forum hahaha what a crazy introduction

Got to big up a legend like Dave. Im hoping a certain Reece James is made club captain when we sadly see him move to new pastures, James has all the right ingredients to be a natural born winner too but I doubt will play left back, like Mount has the minerals to become a serial winner too. Dave's a living and still (just) playing link to what will possibly be considered our finest era.

Kante is another we need back to turn the ship around.

The way some people talk about him now really annoys me - he's given absolutely everything for the shirt for a decade, been fantastic in a number of positions, has won everything, never complained, and has been an absolute model representative for the club.

Yes his legs have gone now, but when I see his name on the team sheet I know there's at least one player who won't accept he's beaten until the game is done.

Put him on the pitch against mbappe today and you can guarantee he'll strain every sinew to make the game as hard is it possibly could be for him. Great teams don't exist without players and characters like azpilicueta, it's that simple.

Started seeing people calling him Spazpi under every tweet the official Chelsea page puts out. Honestly this new breed of fan is beyond embarrassing.

Best wishes to Dave. That looked really serious in real time. Heard the sound of it through my TV speakers.

This needs a rule change. Don't ban overhead kicks but anyone who does attempt a blind overhead and injures another player should receive a straight Red.

As much as I give stick to refs in Europe, there is no chance they would have let that go on without giving a red card. By the way, that same ref gave Felix a red card against Fulham. Coote has proven time and time again that he is not Premier League standard. The player obviously didn't mean to kick Azpi in the face, but he's seriously injured him with a reckless overhead kick that was never there to be won. I can't believe the commentator said Azpi stooped low.......is he blind? Azpi was jumping for the ball and got smashed in the face by Mara's boot. One of the most reckless overheard kicks I have ever seen.

That was so hard to see. That was a red card easy!

Azpi was down for 10 minutes. We are lucky if he walks away with a broken nose.

I have watched it a few times now. In a way, it's a good job Azpi did jump, because any higher and he catches him straight in the temple.

Koulibaly was booked for a high foot in the first few minutes. So according to these thick twats, both were just as dangerous.

There doesn’t even seem to be any talk about the fact that it was extremely dangerous play that’s left the guy on the receiving end hospitalised and it only got a yellow!

The only thing worse than the standard of our football is the standard of refereeing.

Hope Dave gets well soon.

Exactly. Dumb refereeing and Azpi was so very lucky he wasn't hit on the temple or top of the head.

The guy deserves to retire as healthy as possible

Had to be a straight red. He didn’t connect with the ball but recklessly endangered an opponent. I remember  Mane being sent off for head high challenge. Both weren’t intentional

I think charierre, (but I'm by no means sure), reckless endangerment is an offence in criminal law. Why should it be any different on a football pitch? @Scott Harris has hit the nail on the head in his post above. The ball was not there to be won in a fair and reasonable manner by the Southampton player.

Yeah but David Coote is a terrible ref.

He is but may not have seen it properly first hand. This looks like another VAR fail. Expect an apology on Monday from Mr Webb as the sow goes flying past.

Coote is an even worse VAR ref lol

Dave is honestly the only player left at the club right now I feel a genuine connection to as a fan. Such a humble, likeable character. Too many here don't realize what a gem of a captain we have and, depending on the severity of his concussion, we may have seen one of his final Chelsea appearances. Yes, he has declined with age, but Azpi is right up there in club legend status as far as I'm concerned. We will lose what little class we have left when he and Silva are gone.
