I think we use him this season then sell him the next. Glad we aren't losing more defenders and failing to add to the squad

He's still our captain, and loyal servant to the club. Maybe he's lost it a bit now he's in his 30's, but he's not a bad player and will maintain that we have some depth to our defence.

We've been hustled big time here by Dave and Barca.

If his reported pay rise is true 180K a week for 2 years for what Dave offers now is a very steep fee.

I wonder what this means for signings..

Lovely news! Azpilicueta is the man. So underrated it hurts. 

Dave was in the Chelsea Pensioner earlier today.

I love Azpi, great Chelsea player and never a prima Donna despite being one of the most consistent defender in the PL. He shouldn’t be playing as a wing back, which I think Tuchel realises, but he’s a class defender and his experience will be good for the team.

But most of all, we are saying Barsa this

Feels like this deal was more about hurting Barca than it was about what's best for the club, if the wages are true then this doesn't make sense to be honest

Possibly a thankyou and then will be sold on next summer

Hopefully nothing in the wages report, as I seriously doubt Barcelona’s wage offer would have been high enough for a reference point. 

Wasn’t exactly an advocate for his extension tbh.. however, we keep a big character in the dressing room and bridge between players and naturally he won’t be throwing his toys out the pram with less game time. Head says no, heart says yes kinda thing with this one.

I'm more worried my memory of Dave will be tarnished by seeing him play for us next season.

that's a good point

i'm glad he will be around but i don't think he should be a starter if we get Fofana 

but i've never really felt any negativity towards him. He's one of the most professional most normal down to earth footballers there is

I don't care how much we pay him, I don't care what it means for wages, I want him here till he's retired and then after that too. Happy days.

It's a good message, keep hold of the captain and leader of the dressing room, reward him with another contract. I don't see him playing much if we sign another defender, but definitely great to keep him around.

I think he will play a bit and has tremendous versatility across the back line. If he plays a bit but not all the time he probably has a decent level left him this season.

Great news.  I do think his legs are going, but we have so many games and he has an influential role.  More so, a positive statement that a player has been retained relative to the circus that media and fans have kicked up about our club.  

I have no problem with Azpi staying. He can play backup role for all 5 position at the back except (ccb). 

I expect the conversation to keep him will have mainly been around his role in the squad, but it's good to keep the captain here.
