Our New Stadium

Whilst not great news, totally expected and sensible decision from Roman, Marina, et al.

What do the UK government expect? A man investing his fortune (the fortune origins not in discussion here) in a country he sees as home that considers him a risk or "casualty of a diplomatic war" to keep putting food on the table for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of its citizenry?

Totally in love with the move, of course downside being the growth of CFC. But perspective, as I always like to say Roman rescued the club and yes it might have been someone else, even maybe an honest British billionaire of integrity that rescued it, but if my aunt was my uncle..........

Surely, they can't expect him not to feel underappreciated, used and possibly not valued in anyway.

Well I guess we'll just have to be owned by an Israeli then  .    On a more serious note I think this is more than posturing, I think he has just got fed up with the entire headache of owning a club that is a daily circus, one that he created BTW.  His desire for 'Barcelona ' style football has eluded him, just as his desire to dominate English football, with the US billionaires and the Arab gizzillionaires now out spending him and buying up some of the most sought of players in the world. This, together with the Visa issue has just maybe put him over the edge and he wants to get shot of his headaches and invest elsewhere.   Will not be surprised if behind the scenes the club is being sold, hence no news coming out of the Boardroom on appointments or transfers; clearly he has been thinking about scrapping the new stadium for a while, those decisions are not made overnight in a fit of rage......anyway onward and upward on the Chelsea merry go round....it should be an interesting summer.

Impossible to say, since we never get any insights into Roman or what he's thinking. But it wouldn't surprise me.

Roman is playing hardball with the county. He is interested in investing 1bn to the country but due to his ties to Putin and Russia (that allegedly poisoned that russian man and his daughter) + brexit climate his visa is not being renewed. I think 1bn is a factor and Britain will give him his visa.

I really detest what Putins government is doing if the reports are true so I really can't blame Britain here although I want things to go well with Chelsea. For me Roman has shown he is worthy of his visa.

No it doesn`t, not at all....

You're right, a poor choice of words from myself. It seems to indicate that all is not well with Abramovich and the UK and those issues will affect his ownership of Chelsea. Whether he sells or not is another matter.

we all know his dosh was dodgy and that he was close to Putin yet we ignored it because we liked the success Chelsea were having.

Stuff like this was always going to happen with the way things are heading with Putin reverting to pre perestroika type

Would an Arab with funds on par with City be a bad thing? Even in the unlikely situation that this is the end of Abramovich, it certainly won't be the end of Chelsea. I'd be surprised if billionaires the world over wern't falling over their Hublot's to purchase a club in the most exclusive part of the best city in the world.

Nothing is ever predictable or boring at Chelsea, which adds something extra to the club, but this is a worrying development!

It looks like we are now many years away from having a bigger stadium and we'll fall further and further behind our main rivals in terms of revenue. We'll struggle to compete for the top trophies if things are not sorted.

I find it astonishing that the UK are willing to turn away Romans money.

While in the UK, hes created thousands of tax paying jobs, directly or indirectly linked to Chelsea FC.

Its a shambles that hes basically being annexed from the UK over an alleged Russian attack on a double agent.

If we were only owned by a muslim country like City, visas wouldn't be a problem. Don't blame RA one bit.

Yes, the same with the canadian reporter(I forgot the name) broadcasting about the crimes commited in South Africa, earlier this year. It looks like some people are getting banned way easier than another only by their race taken into consideration. That's petty.

I dunno why anybody would rather we invest big amounts into the squad rather than build a new stadium. The stadia is for our future, the short term vision isn't good. I would much rather we build this new stadia and cut back on buying, and instead use a handful of our talented youngsters, both on loan and in the youth system. We could save about £100m, if not more, by using our younger players.

The trouble is that a £1billion stadium investment would take around 30 years to pay for itself.

Our match day  revenue is around £70m Arsenal’s is £100m. Ok that’s £30 million but how much would cost each year to service and indeed make inroads into a debt of around £1 billion and if your brutal what difference other than a debt would it mean to RA if indeed he did finance the stadium ?

The fact that matchday  revenue has diminished in its importance to a point TV monies and indeed sponsorship now head the list of income streams and the gap is growing rapidly. Nothing is guaranteed in life or indeed football but as witnessed at Arsenal paying for a new stadium almost inevitably would impact on success on the pitch and that in turn would impact significantly in TVmonies and indeed sponsorship.

Lauren Southern?

Rival fans are already heralding what they see as the bubble beginning to burst.

While I don't believe that this means the beginning of the end for Chelsea, I must admit I am slightly concerned.

Mate, I don't know about you but I'd prefer World Class players instead of Jonathan Collins-Monroe Jr the Third any day.

Did we honestly need a completely new stadium, 41k is by far big enough for us, and yes extra corporate brings in more money, but figures for a complete new build were scary, I can remember when a fantastic new stadium nearly brought club down 40 odd years ago. Let's be thankful we got a decent stadium in superb location, and not an Emirates stadium full of posh boy tourists who add nothing to a match going experience, and which spurs will find in the coming years. what world class players? tbh, the quality of players around europe is shocking these days. 10 years ago you would find real, genuine world class players. These days theyr'e all just pretenders. Just think, 10-15 years ago you could get prime Robben, Joe Cole, Figo for £50m. These days for that price you can get Arnautovic haha. Pogba is worth a £90m and isn't good enough to lace Lampard or Zidanes boots.

If the club transfers hands I don't think we'll get a better owner. Unless we get bought by a state like City/PSG. Hope this is all just a part of Roman's chess game.

Interested to see if this impacts on the club's transfers. The narrative or speculation has been that the burden of building and  paying  for  the  stadium would  impact on our ability to fund transfers. Players Vs stadium so to speak. I wonder if free if those shackles and pressure if it helps loosen the purse strings to allow us to remain competitive in the short term?
