May 13, 201610 yr Club doesn't off JT contract fans up in arms Club offers JT contract Fans still up in arms.. You just can't win with some Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Agreed
May 13, 201610 yr Yeah i think the majority of posters are being quite harsh on the club but that may just be me. They have been getting stick for taking so long to offer one and now also getting stick for announcing they've offered one. Can they do anything right? JT has said that he wants to finish his career at Chelsea. But having now fielded offers from abroad and from Chelsea, like any human would do, he may actually have a different opinion. The ball is entirely in his court now. Ditto.. JT can't have it both ways IMO, Like others have said It isn't as if he hasn't been paid very well up to now, In fact more than he would normally been had he not held the club to ransom a few years back flirting with City, (Something too many people forget whilst slating the club) he's played the money game before, so what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'm sure he knows the fans will fall down on his side of the fence whatever he decides, but if he goes off to pick up China's millions next season I will assume (rightly or wrongly) that he made a simple choice of money, not that i have a problem with that, as long as he's honest about it.
May 13, 201610 yr I expect I'm in a tiny minority but I wish the club hadn't offered this new contract, it might end up causing all kinds of problems for the new manager. Unless it's at his request obviously.
May 13, 201610 yr The one battle terry was/is never going to win is against Roman, he desires it, it happens, in our imaginery game of 3 card brag, the club have played their hand very shrewdly, JT threw down his prile of Aces, said beat that, the club were playing holding 3x 3s...over to you Johnny Boy.
May 13, 201610 yr These contracts are usually dozens of pages long, sometimes even hundreds of pages, so the fact he hasn't signed yet doesn't mean much. Didn't we offer Lamps and Cole pretty sh*t renewals before they left? I cant remember Didn't Lampard say that they didn't even offer him a reduced salary deal?
May 13, 201610 yr I wish people would stop bringing up that bollocks about Terry flirting with City. There was never any doubt that Terry was going to sign a new deal with us at the time, the only reason why Terry hadn't signed a new deal is because the club were taking so long to offer him one, like they did with every player at the time. As soon as a new contract was offered, Terry signed it. Lampard was in exactly the same situation once. There was talk, all coming from the media, that he could leave because he was entering the last year of his contract and nothing had been signed yet, the reason was because there was no contract offered. The club has been offering new deals at the last minute for years now, the media turns it into something different though and says the player may be looking to leave. People should stop taking what the media says so seriously. The stories about Terry flirting with City was all coming from the media, it's what they do, we all know this by now surely.
May 13, 201610 yr I'm another cynic on the timing of this...no news for months and then just before fans set to kick-off on Sunday, they make an announcement...but only a deal has been offered, not accepted...conveniently makes out club have done what they can to make JT stay and puts all pressure on him to sign...if he doesn't it's his decision to leave...significantly we don't know what he was offered... I hope I'm wrong though cos if he stays, it's unquestionably the right decision

An unnecessarily long metaphor but quite an accurate one, Ballack.

Unless it's at his request obviously. I'm a bit mixed about this too as perhaps it is time for a fresh start. I honestly think we can do better for a centre back in footballing terms and I'm sure it's Conte and his teams job to get the best out of Miazga or Zouma if he makes it back. Having said all that, I wouldn't be shocked in the least if he doesn't sign it and goes off in search of a bigger salary and guaranteed first eleven football.

I wish for a fresh start too, but would also love it if we keep JT as a 3rd/4th CB? Zouma, new CB (Bonucci), JT, Iva/GC. Replace him with say Andreas next season. I mean, we already lost Lamps to a trophyless sh*t season. Not JT. Not after a season like this.
May 13, 201610 yr I think JT needs to be kept on, not necessarily to play every week but to provide leadership, tell any new signings what club is about etc...he's last leader we have left and if he goes, fcuk knows what will happen...
May 13, 201610 yr An unnecessarily long metaphor but quite an accurate one, Ballack. I am known for my detailed embroidery of stories, just for the readers sake mind you...
May 13, 201610 yr What do people think the offer is, I'm guessing 50/60 k a week, more then 50% pay cut and if that is the case I think it's more then fair. He should have made enough money by now to have ensured his future. Terry will also be gobbled up by sky when he does retire so no problems there. The only question is does he want to go out to the US for one big pay day and an easy time of it which is fair enough as well
May 13, 201610 yr I would have to agree barak. he's been reportedly offered a contract in china worth £20m and he's been laying the foundations for that type of offer for some time. if in the end he decides that is what he wants to do then fair enough. if he stays what more could he win? it is more likely than not that we won't win anything in the next year or two. does being part of a rebuild that he might never see the fruits of (in terms of trophies) appeal to him more than a massive, relatively low stress payday at this stage in his life? getting higher up the all time appearance list might well be all he could achieve on a personal level. I hope he does stay (if conte wants him)- even with the potential political and footballing drawbacks keeping him might have, he's still our best defender.
May 13, 201610 yr Author Genius from Chelsea. Crafty bar stewards. Dem sneaky Russians... You'll never beat them at their own game.
May 13, 201610 yr I find it cringy fans protesting over a millionaire sportsman being offered a contract, he has won everything there is to win, I suppose you could describe it as a "first world problem"
May 13, 201610 yr Tell you one thing, the timing of the offer from us, the date it was announced, the publicity was all planned. Down to the very last detail. They're playing poker with JT.
May 13, 201610 yr JT's Instagram has basically confirmed that he's been offered a sh*t sandwich. This is pretty much a Cold War now.
May 13, 201610 yr I agree I hope JT signs but I am clearly in the minority who would understand if Terry didn't sign because of the length of time it had been left to actually offer the deal. If he turns it down for money I'd be disappointed unless it is a ridiculously derisory offer. No matter what he decides he'll always be Mr Chelsea to me!
May 13, 201610 yr I would like JT to stay on for next season, leadership and experience at winning are invaluable traits that leave with him out the door if he goes, rather him/they stay at CFC so that they potentially 'rub off' onto the less experienced players I'll reserve judgment on the speculation of Chelsea bluffing him until the smoke clears, although my initial jubilation at the news is now a lot less tempered, because of that and the Instagram that just got posted never a dull moment with Chelsea FC
