Cuadrado - Chelsea's #23

Featured Replies

can't believe this geezer is getting slaughtered and only played 1 full game and the rest have been chuck on's with 10mins left, it takes you 15mins to get into the flow of the game!

He has played for a good while on Italy, he was exactly the same there. Its not like he just popped up from the ground and these are his first minutes of football ever

Can be a great player if used correctly, it's a big ask throwing him in at the deep end and asking him to perform with ten minutes left against the league's best defensive side. If he doesn't get the chance he'll end up being like the others, leaving and then performing well in another league making us look the idiots

Personally i think he needs some patience, lets judge him this time next year. Or at least in the Autumn. Timing of the signing was strange though, Jose has said a few times he will need some time to settle and thats fair enough but can we afford to be carrying passengers during a title run in ? Just means more game time for the usual suspects which isnt doing us any favors.

Perhaps we'd have been best of leaving the deal until the Summer, though of course you could argue we've had Schurrle (and Salah) as passengers all season too!

Starting to wonder if we'd have been better signing him in the Summer after he's had a pre season with the team. Schurrle would have been ideal to bring on today.

How many times have we said it would be ideal to bring schurrle on, bring him on and he does feck all. He is hardly setting the world alight in the bundesliga atm. Christ di maria is supposed to be world class and he's struggling at utd with regular games, and here people are criticising cuadrado for not making an instant impact in those few sub appearances. If José isn't willing to give him a chance then we'll never know what he can do.

He's played 150 minutes of league football. Can he get 2 whole matches before being written off?

Seemed like a good match to start him in to be honest.

Agreed.

Oscar was bloody pathetic in the first half but got 70 odd minutes to improve yet folk in here are tearing into Cuardrado for failing to impress in a ten minute cameo at the end of the game.

If you gave him the same chances Willian and Oscar regularly get I doubt he'd be much worse.

Fans are fickle though and very quick to judge

Admittedly Schurrle's form this season for us had been lacking but he was still effective at times. I am in no way writing Cuadadro off but as I say he looks like a player who desperately could have used a pre season with us. I think hanging onto Schurrle until the Summer and then bringing in Cuadadro would have been a better move.

If we have to wait about a year for him to settle and be any good, why couldn't we have done that with De Bruyne instead?

KDB is the same player he was when he left. Technically very good, but not a winger, CM or a good no.10. A nightmare for any coach wanting a structured philosophy.

I wasn't Schurrle's biggest fan and he was terrible before he left, but the guy had a knack of scoring goals and getting in dangerous areas. He offered something off the bench.

Cuadrado is the same. He hasn't scored but if you take note of his movement and the few chances he has missed in his brief cameos, it all points to him being a clear danger as he grows more comfortable in the league. He is having problems adjusting to the tempo of the game here, which is acceptable given the fact that he has arrived from Serie A.

I think he'll improve if and when he gets regularly minutes and I think his bad showing today will be a one off.

However, I'm not sure we'll see an upgrade on Willian or Schurrle which means the large fee is a very strange one to pay.

People saying he needs to adapt but it's not like he's been bullied out of games due to the physicality, struggled with the pace or generally been quiet, he's just looked looked unable to do the basics, couldn't control the ball poor passing ect.

I said I didn't like the signing and I will still give him a lot more time as its very soon to be judging him or calling him a flop but when you look at salah in the Italian league it's not a great indicator.

I'm willing to give him more of a chance than 10 minutes against the best defence in the PL who had well and truly parked their bus in an extremely up-tempo game.

Give him a start and see what he does, can't really be much worse than Oscar.

Oh and Schurrle and Salah were regularly that poor when they played.

Schurrle had a sweet finish on him though, off either peg. Yeah, he did drive us all a bit crazy at times with some of his long range efforts, but inside the box, he was one of the top three finishers in the side IMHO.

I don't expect Cuadrado to have that level of finishing, but I was hoping to see some real direct dribbling with the ball and decent close control. He looks as bad as Salah at his worst.

This isn't a popular opinion but I thought Victor Moses had a good first b season here. For a couple of months he looked a useful player who was likely to get goals and cause problems to defenders. After the Afcon, though, he was very poor, and then he had a nightmare loan spell with Liverpool, but he has been playing well again for Stoke. One thing for sure is he would have added a bit of muscle up top.

Personally, I hate seeing players get physically manhandled.

I would have kept Moses instead of wasting money on some of these other players.

(I'm not African / Nigerian either, before anyonne suspects nationalistic bias.)

I liked Moses too. Strong and direct, but again he had the same problem as Schurrle, that he plays best in the same position as Hazard, and when you put him on the right he becomes much less effective.

From what I've seen of Cuadrado (not the bits and pieces for us) he's actually a better finisher than Schurrle. He doesn't have a great left foot, but he shows more composure in front of goal.

Schurrle was a liability unless the opposition defence was playing high enough for him to get in behind, which is very rare.

Mourinho made some shocking signings when he was in charge of us last time, then again he signed some quality players like Tiago, then he stupidly sold him, hen he admitted that he'd made a mistake. I hope that Cuadrado does come good, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

Exactly. And those corners he takes, Jesus.

He reminded me of Torres yesterday, nervous and over awed by it all. No doubt he has talent but is his head right at the mo...?

I apologize to KDB, Salah, and Mata for criticizing them. The reason why our right wingers look so terrible is because they play 10 mins once every 3 matches.

Impossible to be hazard with that type of game time.

I must admit I'm not a fan of his corners. Not when we need a goal anyway, if we're leading 5-0 then he can hit the first man all he wants.

He's terrible at them, no excuses for not being able to get it past the first defender.

He must be good at them in trianing or something but he needs to lay off them for now.

Impossible to be hazard with that type of game time.

I think that is the key part of your sentence!

You could count the number of players in the world who are as talented as Hazard on one hand; you could give de Bruyne 20 straight starts and he still wouldn't come anywhere close (not to knock his recent form). Unless a player can show that they can offer an equal threat to Hazard (and I doubt that anyone currently playing in this league could), anyone who plays on the opposite flank simply has to provide balance in order to permit Hazard to attack unreservedly. De Bruyne is the primary creative outlet for Wolfsburg - as good as he is he simply couldn't play the same role for Chelsea and clearly wasn't satisfied with not being assured of a starting place.

Yup, write him off, he's had 45 mins total football for us, not good enough, on the scrap heap, please sell ASAP!

Crazy isn't it.

If anyone who has played football at any level will tell you it's increasingly hard to get into a game when coming on for a few minutes when the game is in it's final minutes.

We are trying to play guys like Willian and Oscar into form so why not this guy?

Like Remy he's just not getting a fair crack at it and you wonder why Jose spent this much money on someone he isn't prepared to use.

But that was the argument when De Bruyne was not getting games and look how he's doing now.

De Bruyne storming it, as is salah. Comes with getting game time... what surprises me is that costa has been off the boil recently, so why not rest him for a few games and give a fresh remy a crack at it? his scoring record for us, in what is essentially limited to a few sub appearances and a handful of starts, is pretty decent. Same with Willian who may well indeed need a rest - he has looked clumsy and burnt out lately, i would like to see our £26m signing actually getting some f**king time on the pitch.

if he gets consistent minutes he will come good. if jose keeps him as an "impact sub" and limits him to one start in every 10 matches, then the lad has absolutely no chance here.

this refusal to rotate will be the downfall of many squad players at chelsea and may indeed be the downfall of jose himself. we have quality - play them, especially now when the seemingly "untouchable" first XI look absolutely cooked.
