Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

He has that fighting spirit and a will to win, not to mention he scores plenty of goals, I'm not sure why you wouldn't take to him. Last season, he gave us what we'd been missing as soon as Drogba left, the best striker we've signed in six years, since Anelka in 2008.

surprised he has had no criticism today, he was not good. falcao showed more in the short time he was on than costa did the whole game - he needs to have more impact in games like these seeing as he's our main target man. we should try two up front, either costa and falcao, or remy and falcao, switch sh*t up ffs.

No one was good and that's the problem. But he wasn't bad. He requires service even more than a striker like Aguero. But right now neither Fabregas nor Hazard are looking like they give a damn. When the team is playing this poorly you can nitpick ad nauseam but the focus should be on the really poor performers.

Because he was the least of our worries. With Fàbregas, Matuc, Willian and Hazard playing as badly as they did what realistically can we expect the striker to do?

My boy Diego the beautiful, beautiful man has again dismissed speculation of him wanting to leave.

Speak at a press conference whilst away with Spain on international duty he said:

"You only consider that when you receive something [an offer]. I had a great season at Chelsea and I was a champion.

"Everyone knows the affection I have for Atletico and how much I like this city, but London is another life and I'm also happy there."

Looks completely shot

His performance reminded me of Torres yesterday.

Too much time spent drifting out to the wings where he won't influence play.

Not having the confidence to get a shot away early when an opportunity presents itself.

I'd start him again on Wednesday night and try and get him a goal to get his confidence back otherwise it's only going to get worse.

^ Issue is it has been a problem since he came back from suspension last season. We spent the rest of the season trying to play him into form, even got dumped out of the CL when it was obvious something wasn't right.

I still think we dropped the ball by the not signing a top forward this summer to compete with him for a starting spot.

I don't think anyone should underestimate the psychological effect of post hamstring bother on a youngster, as well as the obvious physical.

Who could we have signed.

Arsenal are desperate for a striker but couldn't find anyone.

United just dropped £40m on a teenager.

Truth is top level strikers are at a premium right now.

All I'll say is I'm glad we've got Falcao, looks more lively and sharper than Costa.

Still couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo though. His woeful header at 3-1 probably sums up just how dangerous he is as a striker at present.

At least he's actually getting on the end of chances, Costa can't even manage that. The goal last week would be a good confidence boost, I would probably start him over Costa on Wednesday or play them together.

Not sure what this means for Remy though, I would like to see him get a chance soon.

Think we maybe need to try a new formation and play with both Falcao and Costa.

Our previous and current system is being woefully exposed by all and we really do need to try something different

He had 1 good game so far this season, other than he's pretty poor. Not a real goal threat, not winning physical battles, and not beating defenders with speed either.  I agree that playing on his own back against the goal just not his game, but he hasn't done well when chances were created. The one really hit me on the weekend was when we had the counter in the second half, he got the ball in the box with no one close to him, decided to take an extra touch or 2 and couldn't even get the shoot out. Similar situation last year, he'd smashed it towards the corner. Howard was not a great GK,had he fired a shot, more likely than not it would be 2:2

Remy should come in, bet I bet Jose thought he left on loan already, given what we have seen in the last 5 games.

The thing with Diego Costa is that he is a goalscorer, nothing more really. When he is scoring, he is deadly, if he isn't then he isn't offering much at all. Basically, he will click if the rest of the squad clicks.

I guarantee that if the midfield was feeding him the right passes, he would score.

Should take more shots first time as when he tries to take a touch he almost always loses the chance to shoot.

Yeah he had that chance just after his goal where he should have shot first time but took a touch and the chance went. I think it's more a confidence thing with him tbh, im sure if he was coming off the back of 3 or 4 good games, he would have just swept it in the corner.
