Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Past his peak? He's only 27!!

In his first season with us he was in the goalscoring form of his life; even despite an 'indifferent' start last season, he still managed a fair return.

I think it's in regards to he's never looked the same player since he done his hamstrings in several times in a few months at Atletico.

Owen was past his peak at 27 because of Injuries too.

And since his first season he's turned into one of the slowest forwards in the league, and he gets out muscled loads more than he did in that first season, it's pretty conclusive to me, he is past his peak.

His overall scoring record at Chelsea is just shy of a goal every two games.

Foolish to write off Diegoal in my opinion, he's the most natural goal scorer I've ever seen play for Chelsea.

If we keep hold of Costa this summer, then his route back to Atlético won't be on the cards until 2019 as they will be banned from making transfers next summer.

Maybe for that reason he will try push a transfer through, but hopefully we stand firm and come September he can focus on his football knowing that going back to Atlético isn't an option for 2 seasons.

I'm not actually a huge fan of Costa, but there is no doubting his ability to stick the ball in the back of the net, and I dont think we can replace him this summer.

Can't agree with past his peak.

Sluggish at times perhaps but he was phenomenal against PSG, United and Arsenal last season.

If Atletico's president keeps running his mouth, just activate Griezmann's release clause & see how he feels

:laugh2:

Step 1: Activate his release clause

Step 2: Leak to the press

Step 3: Have a fecking laugh at Mr. president

Step 4: ??

Step 5: Hire more people to handle and clean up the hate on @chelseafc coming from every transferpleb who believed we would sign him.

"We love Diego Costa, Ill admit it. We are talking with him and we are working to bring him back to Madrid and play next season for Atletico de Madrid. We are close to signing him" - Enrique Cerezo

;(

Doesn't that statement go as tapping a player? Isn't that illegal contact by AM?

He's denied saying this apparently.

I can't see someone tapping a player up so openly like that.

Its all about the replacement with him.

If we got Higuain or Aubemayang (unlikely) id be OK. But would make 0 sense to let him go before one of these is a done deal.

I'm not sure i can believe those comments. Surely a club wouldn't be so disrespectful to openly talk about the player of another team like that. They know if the deal falls through it'll ruin the players reputation at the club they then have to stay with. Much like when we were chasing Kante, you didn't see any of our hierarchy running their mouth about him.

It would not be tapping if what Marca reports today, that Chelsea has rejected a €60m offer, is true. Apparently, the club has also rejected to enter in negotiations with Atlético de Madrid. They also mention that Costa would be willing to go back to Madrid, but Chelsea is not likely to let him leave.

I don't want to let him go, Conte counts on him and I think that Costa will be a fundamental player for him. Unless we can come with the signing of an equally capable striker, we shouldn't sell.

The Telegraph reporting that we are set to issue a second warning to Atletico over their pursuit of Costa.

Apparently the Ateltico director has denied making the comments about them being "close" to signing him.

Conte today has today said in his pres conference:

"Diego Costa is our player, he's a fantastic player with fundamental importance. He's very happy and is working hard."

Basically f**k off Ateltico he's ours.

Ateltico just trying to unsettle him and no doubt trying to force his hand to ask to leave.

They know he loves their club and manager so are just trying to play on it.

I don't blame them tbh, if you want a player you do everything within the rules to get them.

Hopefully Diego himself commits to us and tells them thanks but no thanks.

Conte on Diego.

‘Diego is our player,’ he said. ‘He’s a fantastic player for me. He is a player with fundamental importance.

'For me it’s no problem to read there is possibility to go to another team because Diego announced he stay with us. He is working very hard.

‘He is very happy to work with team-mates and me in a new idea of football. The most important thing is that Diego Costa is a Chelsea player.’

When asked if he was unhappy with Atletico’s behaviour, Conte delivered a measured response.

‘It’s normal to ask for respect,’ he said. ‘I know myself, my attitude, my behaviours. I don’t like to speak about the players of the other teams. I would like that the others do not speak about my players but I know this period is very strange. We respect all, but we want respect.

‘In this moment this is football, the transfer market. I repeat - the most important thing is Diego Costa is Chelsea’s player now and it’s enough.’

He also hailed the Spain striker as the strongest striker on the planet.

‘He showed that he is very, very strong,’ he said. ‘The best in the world for me. I am sure that also when he gets into this idea of football he can score a lot of goals for us.’

Conte, however, would not give a 100 per cent guarantee Costa would start the season in a blue shirt.

‘In football, my experience I learned that 100 per cent never exist because you don’t know what can happen in life,’ he explained.

‘In general, in my experience like footballer and like manager, I learned that 100% is very, very difficult to tell.

'I am sure and I am very happy to train Diego and I know that he is our player and for me he is an important players for me, for team-mates, for the fans, for all of the people in Chelsea. I think Diego also feels this and I think this is important.’

For €60m, sell him on.

He can't stay healthy enough. 28 league apps his first season, 26 last year. Always picking up injuries

He's a target for other teams and officials now. I'd bet £100 he gets sent off against United this season if he plays.

For €60m plus whatever else we have available we can find a replacement. He's a great player but only when he's on the pitch, which isn't often enough to turn that money down
