Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

And buy who?

It took us five years or so to find Diego, a twenty goals a season striker.

We've got no European football next season so we're hardly the most attractive proposition.

He's showing signs of coming out of his slump and will most likely still finish the season as our top scorer by a fair distance.

Totally agree with this. Lets stick with the big man , he did it at Athletico and did it for us last season. Has had a dip in form but has shown signs over last few weeks that he's on the way up.

Costa has gotten his act together if he continues this way i see him getting 15+ goals by the end of the season and with the way teh season went thats a good target.

Costa last season was unplayable at times and i see that coming back.

even more reason to keep him if we get Simeone, which is quite likely given we won't get pep

I'm thinking that Simeone is as near a "cert" as we are going to get for next season.  Talks of him bringing all his staff with him too, strong Spanish contingent at the club, and he plays some attractive football.  Complete nutter, and the perfect villain for Chelsea.  It's got to happen, right?

Plus, Atletico don't see to mind taking their idols back after a few seasons gone.  Just so long as he doesn't bring Torres with him!!!

guardolia, simeone and a few of the others being touted have no prem experience, doesn't any body think that could be a bit risky?

Name the last manager we had that had premier league experience Rdm as a player Rafa with the dippers Jose didn't have premier leauge experience the first time round. We haven't had a manager that managed another premier league side since the premier league was formed except for Rafa and I want to wipe him from my mind.

Apparently picked up an injury and might not play against West Brom.

So without even Hazard, we might end up seeing Pedro or Fabregas up front.

Or Bamford if he can impress this week in training.

^ Makes you wonder why Hiddink started him at all considering our other options can't stay fit. It was a perfect game to give either Bamford or Traore a chance upfront.

Or Guss will finally give Traore a chance and not last 5 minutes.

I think him scoring the crucial opener answers that one.

More likely oscar

It's refreshing to see Diego playing football rather than trying to fight everyone.  It seems "obvious" (as obvious as it can be from the outside looking in) that he wasn't happy this season prior to Guus' arrival.  In the BT Sport post match interview today, they asked him about Diego, and Guus quite openly said, and I'm paraphrasing here:
"I told him he was spending too much of his energy in areas he shouldn't.  To stop fighting, and to concentrate his energy in areas he needs to."

No, contrast that to when he was being called "man of the match" by Jose earlier in the season for a performance that had him trying to fight everyone on the pitch.

You have to wonder whether the boos had a part in his turnaround as well as the above :)

Form-change coincides with it.

I remember drogba getting a few boos at home to second towards the end of his second season, mainly for his theatrics, and possibly because of reports he wasn't happy, and was looking to leave.

Since those boos he really seemed to take his game to the next level, we signed Shevchenko and it looked like he would be sold, but he went on to have imo his greatest goalscoring season for us in 06/07, which included the late winner and against everton, the 2 goals on the turn against Barca and liverpool, and his first premier league hat trick.

I'm not a fan of booing our own players, and I hated 'the rats' sign, but it has had a positive effect on players in the past, let's hope it has on costa long term.

Prick shoulda turned up from the start

Which members of the squad doesn't this logic apply to?

Are you also okay with selling Fabregas, Matic, Oscar, Ivanovic, Hazard?

Fabregas and Costa have at least found some form.

Matic and particularly Hazard still look well short of the standards they set last season.

Am I happy he appears to be back in from (Yes)

Do I want us to sell him in the summer (yes)

Which leaves us with Remy, unless he leaves too, which is possible, so we'd have Bamford and who else? Traore who isn't a natural forward, a flaw that we have had in recent years is not only a lack of quality strikers, but a lack of strikers period and you think we should sell a striker whose starting to prove his worth again? I disagree completely. We gave Drogba two seasons to sort himself out, Costa deserves the same time.
