July 29, 20178 yr http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/antonio-conte-warns-chelsea-fans-to-be-realistic-about-champions-league-a3599101.html Antonio Conte has warned Chelsea fans that the club may struggle to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich on their return to the Champions League this season. The Blues are back in the competition after failing to qualify for it last term - the first time in the Roman Abramovich era - due to a dismal 2015-16 campaign. Conte has signed only four players so far this window and is concerned whether the squad is strong enough to take on the European elite. Chelsea were given an indication of the task that awaits them when Bayern beat them 3-2 in Singapore on Tuesday night without a number of their best players. Conte said: "I am excited to play in the Champions League with Chelsea, but I know we have a lot of road ahead before we can compete to try to win the Champions League. "We are trying to rebuild a situation and it’s not easy. You need a bit of time to create a structure and to build every season and then to go to fight. "Against Bayern Munich, it is very clear, no? We played against a very strong team and don’t forget they had (David) Alaba and (Juan) Bernat on the bench. "And seven players at home: (Arjen) Robben, (Joshua) Kimmich, (Arturo) Vidal, Thiago Alcantara, (Manuel) Neuer, (Jerome) Boateng and another strong player. "This is the reality and it is always important to know the reality and then to try and work and try to improve. "But the reality is this: Bayern Munich is ready to fight to win the Champions League. Because every season they stay there, and they try to improve the team. "For them it is easier now because they have a good structure - you arrive at the end of the season and you sign one or two players to improve your team but you have 17/18 players for a good basis. "Then you can pay £80million for one player or £90m for two players and your transfer market is finished. "But when you must rebuild you need to buy players, but also to create the solid foundation and then to find one or two strong players to improve your quality in an important way."
July 29, 20178 yr Winning a championship is always acompanied with luck. In consider to events following the infamous SMS I got a bad feeling that we used the whole lot last season.
July 29, 20178 yr “We know the difficulty of the next season and for sure we want to avoid the Mourinho season with Chelsea. Two years ago the team ended the league in 10th place and we want to try to avoid this.” The Mourinho season sounds like a good name for title winners struggling the following season.
July 30, 20178 yr Did Conte throw any daggers towards his collagues last season? I remember none. In the pre-season he has talked about Pochettino, Mourinho and Wenger in not a very good way. Maybe it is due to his limited english and media making the most of it as I've felt he is a true gentleman.

He also talked about Kane being a 100m player when last season he won't ever start talking about opposition players. Edited July 30, 20178 yr by Deino
July 30, 20178 yr But board can have excuses right? If i was in charge i also woult not be fully happy about the situation and the tiny squad + obvious lack of class. I don`t see excuses from Conte i see truths only. Everything he said is right. We need to be better at the transfer market, we need more class and more depth. He also right we don`t have the squad to win the CL, and he prepare the fans for that. So far we don`t even have the squad to defend the title. City for example player wise is better then us.
July 30, 20178 yr Conte can only be sour if he's been promised 8 new signings. If the board have made no such promises Conte really has no business of sounding sour and give his opinion of internal matters through post game interviews.I actually think the board has said he gets more or less what he needs but due to difficult transfer market it is taking time and is very probable the squad will be a compromise.
July 30, 20178 yr Conte is ruthlessly stripping the squad of Mourinho's players. Oscar, Mikel, Costa, Matic, Ivanovic and I suppose to an extent Terry were all players Jose heavily trusted. All gone. Come the end of this window this team will very much be Conte's. Not sure we've seen such a massive turn over of players in such a short period under Roman's reign before.
July 30, 20178 yr For me it says Conte is really challenging the board to do everything necessary. Lot of the success of a season is played over the summer.
July 30, 20178 yr That PC was quite weird. And very out of character for Conte. Talking about other players and asking for our own ambition etc etc. Hope its not an encore of the Jose season.

I am getting nervous about the big selling being reported but I have a feeling we will bring in some big names before summers end. I want Conte to sort out this Costa situation ASAP, pissing me off to see a 20 league goal scorer left in Brazil.
July 30, 20178 yr The Costa situation is the ONLY thing that has got me angry for a long time Chelsea related. Should have never got to this. World class players tend to have baggage. Conte is a top Manager. I expect him to have sorted it. If, Well when he leaves it will be f**kin criminal.
July 30, 20178 yr Seeing Conte challenging the board makes me nervous. He's got every right to do so and it's been ages since we've had a manager that has publicly done that. I just hope it's not heading to a fall out.
