Hopefully the failure to sign another striker in the summer doesn't come back to bite us in the coming weeks.

It will do, I can't see Michy starting many games, we're relying on the false 9 system.

Yeah I also think the media are overreacting. I think at the lates he'll come back will be against United, hopefully sooner though.

The board is an absolute joke for not signing another striker. This is exactly what I feared would happen. Most top European clubs have 3 or 4 strikers at their club because they need depth in that area to compete in all competitions and yet we only have 2 and our main one is injured for October. How the f**k are we supposed to manage with 2 strikers the entire season when we're competing on all fronts. f**king ridiculous.

It's going to be hard without Morata, but look at some positives, the international break is a godsend - imagine having to survive an extra 2 matches without him!

Palace are up next so we have a bit of leeway to experiment a bit, Conte needs to come up with something new, Michy simply doesn't do well as a lone striker and Hazard as false 9 has never worked.

I'm wondering since we have new CBs in the squad, could we go back to a back 4 to accommodate a number 10/SS to support Michy?

Which top clubs are you on about?

City - Aguero/G.Jesus

Spurs - Kane/Llorente

Utd - Lukaku/Zlatan (Rashford rarely used as an ST but could also count him)

Arsenal - Lacazette/Giroud/Welbeck (lol)

Real Madrid - Benzema

Barcelona - Suarez/Paco Alcacer

PSG - Cavani/Mbappe

The only team with more than two options is Utd and one of them options is mainly used as a winger. The current best team in the world has only Benzema after selling Morata to us. Not true at all that teams somehow have 4 strikers. I imagine we'll cope the exact same way every other team will with two strikers, stop moaning about the board ffs.

Champions League & Injuries to key players.........2 things that were non existent basically last season when Chelsea were champs

part and parcel of being a top team, no use in moaning just hope for a speedy recovery for teh lad

Are we able to call back Tammy if don Antonio deems it necessary?

We should have recalled him the second they sold llorente to spuds, not us.

I doubt it. We may have a clause in the loan deal but it is unlikely for a season long loan. If anything I can see us promoting Callum Hudson-Odoi to the bench. He is highly rated but young. Funnily enough he is included in the Guardian's latest list of young players to look out for in the Premier League: https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2017/oct/03/next-generation-2017-20-of-the-best-talents-at-premier-league-clubs

Hudson-Odoi is a magnificent talent but won't be anywhere near the first team, regardless of injuries. He will strictly play with U23/youth cup and odd U18 games but in terms of being on first team bench no chance. Not because he is not good enough but we won't call him on bench for league games. Sure of that. He is just 16 so we will be careful with him. The only brief chance I see him being on bench is against Everton in Carabao cup but even then I doubt it.

I would be over the moon though if Morata can be back in a fortnight. Those injury news yesterday really depressed me.

Rooney.

Tammy isn't anywhere near good enough yet anyway.

Was just thinking that if conte had more faith in him than the batman then anything is better than Willian in the false 9 role...
didn't actually realise how f**ked we are with the squad depth as we are usually lucky with injuries!

Thanks for the extra information. I dodn't realise he was still 16. I agree we probably won't risk him in the league this season. He might make the bench for a domestic cup game if we are still short up front. He already has 2 goals in the checkatrade trophy

remember that manure at the end of the last year had one foutrh of the squad on crutches. they came far in all competitions and fatige got the better of rojo, ibra, jones, ...

I got a Very bad feeling right after conte's sms and Hazard injury that this season is doomed to be paved with dissapointment. Summer windoow saga just nailed it. We are dealing with injuries, underperforming playres, red cards, brutal schedule and conte who said after the draw at SB to arsenal, that we played good. oh rily?! I think that we'll go the furtherest of all english teams in CL but see us strugle for the 3rd or even 4th place in the championship. and I see conte gone at the end of the season. we're f**ked.

Good news, but i don't think than Conte will do him to play against Crystal, we can win this game without Morata....

If he can be ready for As Roma its perfect

Seen Morata's post that he is targeting his return against Palace, which was later removed. Hope he can be back as soon as possible, Michy has to do well in the following games especially vs Palace who are a beyond terrible.

good post...

in this day of playing lone striker its extremely difficult to have a 2nd good CF who is ready to be on the bench and come on as a sub..

the best option is to have an AM like sanchez who can play as CF as well... or a player like rashford or jesus who can play as CF or AM.

That's the option. In our pomp we were very lucky to have Drogba and then one of Eidur/Crespo/Anelka/Torres to support him.

A new Eidur would be the ultimate. Could lead the line and play in a more withdrawn role as needed.

That was Llorente's decision. So no point in blaming Swansea
