Alvaro Morata

Diego Costa won games on his own last year. I mean could you imagine Alvaro Morata scoring the goal Diego scored against West Brom. Could you imagine Alvaro Morata grabbing Chelsea by the jock strap and getting them backing into the game against City and going onto win it. I feel for him because he had such big boots to fill. We can only carry on for so long playing with a man who you know deep down you cannot count on. Arsenal should've been blown out of the water at Emirates but he kept them in it. Batshuayi isn't anywhere near good enough. Sit down with whoever at Chelsea, AC and get a new striker before the season is over.

Costa was the match winner for us several times, yes but come on that is harsh. Morata was the match winner against United. That game took a big player to win a game and he stepped up. You mentioned Costa getting us back in the game against City. Morata done that against Atletico, arguably the best defensive unit in Europe and that helped is win the game. I get it, he has been frustrating recently and has big boots to fill, but let's just hope he gets that early season form back and starts scoring. One of those things, all strikers seem to go through, even the best.

He started off ok and put in some good performance but of late he's been very average at best. His attributes are very limited and it's showing. We are all hopeing he comes through but he needs to improve his overall skill set and quick.

Cannot hold the ball up. Falls at the slightest contact. Link up is poor. Head in the clouds.

All the mud thrown at Batman now sticks to morata. Andy Carroll would be an improvement.

When you know the manager will play you no matter what over the other striker except you're injured you tend not to challenge yourself to improve or put in better performances . All on AC in my opinion. Ditch the damn 352 as not working. Go back to 343, play Pedro and Willian at either side of Morata or Hazard since you won't play Michy but for f**k sake switch things up. I am concerned he is more bothered about making noises about transfer targets or Mourinho. All this translates to the players. Compare last season to this,  he never moaned just got on with things but now no press conference goes without a complaint of some sort.  Really off putting at the moment. Yes we know the squad isn't good enough, it wasn't last season as well but you are actually giving the players an excuse or out for underperforming which you didn't do last season.

Other than nationality they really have nothing in common. This is a very tiresome comparison.

Number 9? Strikers? Well yes, but for f**ks sake... they're completely different players with completely different styles. And most importantly, Morata started playing well and scoring goals from the get go before hitting a rough patch, while Torres was dog sh*t from day one. So their circumstances are completely different too. It's such a lazy and unimaginative and completely inappropriate comparison.

I think you need to calm down a bit, it was merely a comment suggesting he's playing more like Torres of late than our better stikers.

Costa took half a season off in both of our title winning seasons. People have such short memories. His attitude was as much a distraction as his aggressiveness and ability to be a match winner were his strengths.

Morata is younger and can still develop into a better striker. This is his first season as a firs choice in a new tough league. He needs to get stronger both physically and mentally because technically he's better than Diego already. Whether he can do this, only time will tell.

I also think people overrate Costa's hold up play, he couldn't play with his back to goal, and he was a very poor ariel threat. I'm sure he scored about 3 headed goals. He would definitely stay on his feet more than Morata but you're lying to yourself if you think Costa was much more significant at keeping possession.

Tony Gayle kept banging on about it last night of how Costa had much better hold up play and could play with his back to goal, absolute nonsense, Costa was a terrible footballer.

You could see how often it happened barak by the amount of videos you found of Costa blundering it. You had to chuck in a Nando one because obviously couldn't find any others of Costa! Also, look at the scores on both of those videos. The first video he was blown offside and the second he went in with someone else. Let's see some videos of the ones he didn't miss, I'm sure there are plenty.

As far as goals are concerned (and mostly anything else) - Costa was streets ahead! Will that ever change? Will the fanbase and club wait while Morata settles? I highly doubt it!

Mod, it's not true, I don't need videos to remind me how often costa and drogba missed infuriating chances, videos are just not made that often. I watched the games and remember that neither were what you would call deadly infront of goal. Comparing moratas goal return at this stage is it not as good and maybe better ?

And I'm merely pointing out it's a sh*t comparison that is only being made because they come from Spain, and does Morata a massive disservice.

I would argue that, for the past few games at least, he's playing more like Drogba in his first season, who spent a lot of time flopping to the ground and failing to win free kicks. Morata already has 10 goals, which is all Drogba could manage in his first season, and it took Torres until his third season to get his tenth Chelsea goal.

Although Drogba didn't wear number nine, he did have two arms and legs and wore the colour blue, and their surnames both end in 'a'. Just a few things...

By the way, I remember starting a long thread in the old Shed End forum back in 2005 (?) in Drogba's first season and the title was "Drogba is hopeless". I seem to remember most posters agreeing with me that we bought a moanbag with a touch of a donkey who spends most of his time falling to the ground and complaining to the referees. Sounds familiar?

Look at the team mates he had though, best midfielder the league has seen, best defender and captain the club has ever had, best LB we've ever had, then Maka, Cech, Essien, Ballack. No wonder DD did well at the club with those around him.

This team you got Tibo, Kante and Hazard, and the rest are average compared to above.

I'm talking about his and incidentally Jose's first season at Chelsea (2004-05) when we won the league for the first time in 50 years. Ballack, Essien and Ashley Cole joined in later. But I get your point, that squad was brilliant and full of talent. And no wonder, it cost a fortune.

Dave is alright too.

Jesus christ, can everyone stop kneejerking over a few bad performances? Were you saying the same at the start of the season when he was scoring for fun, and looked like the most dangerous striker in the Prem?

He's had an injury and come back not looking himself. Probably because we don't really have any decent backup option, so he's being made to play too much before he's fully recovered. He has absolutely bags of talent, and just needs to learn like most spanish strikers do, that the PL isn't a place to go down at every touch. Give him the rest of the season to settle in properly, and he'll be an absolute beast for us next year. If you look past the falling over, you'll also notice that he fights for everything and has the same predatory aggression that all the top strikers do. He's not soft, he's just used to the Spanish game.

I wasnt too worried about Morata up until the game against Leicester, his movement seemed a little off and kept on running out to the wings rather than the danger area but maybe that is down to how well Leicester defended. More Than Morata I am concerned with Moses, ever since his return from injury he hasnt looked quite as threatening going forward and a little questionable defensively.

Goes down under a slight breeze. Dove in the box, don't care what others think, there was a slight hand on the shoulder but he throws himself to the floor.

Well he should be fresh for Arsenal after only playing 20 minutes tonight plus being suspended for Brighton after that fiasco tonight.

Needs to do some work in the gym and toughen up a bit, rather than look at the referee all the time after the slightest touch.

Big potential but obvious areas to develop too

He can't hold it up against multiple players and against the one it's a mixed bag. I think he needs a number 10 to lay it off to whenever he gets the ball to feet. Has to strengthen up or a new system built around him to make it work.
