I'm in the camp of having written him off already and with the level of signings we are now making / looking to make, assume his CFC career is over but would still be happy to be proved wrong. I haven't really followed since the autumn but he had a great game at number 10 against Atletico and I read the other day he's created 12 chances in 9 games in the Bundi (I see that as a more barometer of creativity than assists as for the latter you need someone else to finish the job for it to go on record). Only the 1 goal but even I have given up on him becoming a top goalscorer. I'd still like to see him get a run of the right flank with James before we make a final decision on him.
January 18, 20233 yr Interesting hearing him refer to his injury some on here suspected that massively impacted his game and he acknowledges that at least for a year after.

Depending on if we secure Felix in the summer, and with Nkunku signed already, Cal may well benefit from a second season there for his development. Edited January 19, 20233 yr by axman2526

January 19, 20233 yr My opinion is that he could have worked harder to make it here but instead he was satisfied when he was rewarded with that hefty contract and then lost that drive to "make it". Probably had a bunch of mates blaming both Lampard & Tuchel when performances nosedived instead of taking accountability himself. Tuchel tried to push him and challenge him and I still think he could have been a star here if he stepped up to the challenge but unfortunately he didn't and I think it's over for him here now.

Wasn't his injury a complete Achilles rupture? Think that injury along with ACL injuries are the most damaging to a player's mentality. His loss of pace now has probably even worsened his confidence. Shame. He really was supposed to be what Saka is now.

He was our best attacker last autumn (bar the wingbacks if you count them as attackers) before being unfairly dropped. 13 hours ago, axman2526 said: Depending on if we secure Felix in the summer, and with Nkunku signed already, Cal may well benefit from a second season there for his development. I expect another loan that will create some level of profit for us on him as a player after fee and % wages covered is taken. And that's how it'll be until his contract ends. I don't see him taking up a place in the squad unfortunately. He will need to show a lot more on loan for that to be a possibility.

Remember reading a few days ago he did an interview where he is going to be looking out for options this summer. Think a high possibility he gets sold and accepts a lower wage just to find some stability somewhere.
January 19, 20233 yr He won't be playing for Chelsea again with the number of players we signed during his loan. He actually fits in with the age group of players we are targeting, the issue is if he wasn't willing to be patient this season, what hope he has next season?
January 20, 20233 yr He got stuck in that group of attackers that just consistently failed with any meaningful end product. Unfortunately his loan time is panning out that way also.

January 20, 20233 yr Surely as good as gone now , personally don’t think he’s good enough to be a top level winger. Always thought he did decent as a wing back on either side so was surprised to see him let go on loan , but with potter seemingly preferring a back 4 , I don’t see any place for him.

The CHO I used to watch for the academy and England U19's I would agree. But the CHO who broke into the first team, got injured and then hardly ever took a defender on and beat him, NO. He totally regressed as a footballer and from the sound of things, is now struggling in the German league, so no wonder we are looking for upgrade.

Unfortunately his loan time is panning out that way also. When he burst onto the scene he literally burst onto it. There were rave reviews from the youth set up about his blistering pace and clinical finishing. In reality that clinical finishing was purely as a result of the blistering pace outstripign all defenders in an envirnoment taht was quite and contact competitive and where there is space to perform. When his injury occurred he returned having lost that pace and we all, well most of us, came to realise that actually he is a pretty average player. From here that Bayern 70m loan with option to buy looks to have been a gift horse, but ho would have known at the time.

I don't actually agree that he is particularly more talented than others around, in fact his lack of pace now has seriosuly hampered him in my opinion, but i do agree that the Madueke deal seems very strange unless we are moving CHO on. Even if we are moving him on, it seems odd to buy a player that is similar to a player that we loaned out becuase he couldn't get a game here.
January 20, 20233 yr Look at CHO against Spurs away in the league cup. Night and day different player. Achilles tear destroyed not only his speed but his confidence in taking players on. Edited January 20, 20233 yr by Sconnie Blue

That maybe but he is still by some distance the most creative attacker we got (hopefully that changes with Mudryk) and has a big understanding with the player we should be building the team around. Criminal he went on loan while Pulisic and Ziyech were getting significant minutes.

Yeah I disagreed with the loan at the time as after his injury this was the season he was meant to prove himself with us. Having said that I do think he is pretty much done after that injury from the little bits from him, I would be surprised if he reaches the high potential many saw in him before. Under normal circumstances I would keep him as a squad player but he's already on high wages as it is. If he takes a cut or we give him a long contract like the others then I would be ok with keeping him.
