With Barkley, it is all still potential but he has to turn that into consistent performances week in, week out, rather than be the frustrating player who just shows glimpses we have seen up to now. There aren't going to be too many better people to get that out of him than Lamps so fingers crossed we see that potential realized we finally have a proper player on our hands. Problem is potential at 25 going on 26? He has been riding that train since he was 18 at Everton. This season is his make or break season both at a club & international level. There are players coming through, and I wonder if he will make the bench when every one is free or make the cut for England with everyone fit.

If you’re relying on potential and the player is almost 26, that’s a problem. Potential should be associated with younger players, teens obviously up through your early 20s.

The only caveat you could add to that is that he did have a couple of years out due to major injuries, last season was pretty much his first full one in about 4 years... however I agree with the general point he should now be a consistent performer

While you're right in what you said, I think that he's playing much better now than before. He had a great pre-season and he's being a good addition to the rest when he was on the pitch. Hopefully he stays healthy and brings more high level games. Edited August 30, 20196 yr by Gol15

But i thought he grew into it as the half went on. Second half he was okay, and i think lampard brought him off during his best period, pulisic shouldve been subbed instead imo.
September 1, 20196 yr Think it's obvious to see that Barkley is a squad player for us. He has some good qualities but last season and this season so far shows that he shouldn't be starting material for us Mount is only 20 and already looks better and RLC clearly showed he was much better than Barkley last season Decent squad player to have though

Not the worst sub to have though.
September 7, 20196 yr didn't watch the match but in the England vs Bulgaria match, Ross da Boss went the full 90 & many English fans said he had a decent performance

I really don't know what to think about him anymore.

September 11, 20196 yr Yet early days for England with playing all the 'smaller' teams, the time to judge him playing for England is when we are playing the likes of Spain, Germany or Brazil.

TBF I thought he had a classic Ross performance last night... put the CB under pressure with a daft back pass in the first 30 seconds which started the f**k up that led to the goal... missed passes that he should have made and missed opportunities to pass that he should have seen. This intermixed with some great passing and some great moves, I like Ross but he still makes the same errors he always made without the defense that he "is young" He can be great and really take a game on but will still miss the aforementioned. I dont see that ever changing

September 17, 20196 yr He needs to wind his neck in, that was thoroughly unprofessional, clearly Jorginho was the new penalty taker, Willian there as a senior player to question him but captain nowhere to be seen. He scored a goal for Everton celebrating before he shot, he's that kind of guy. His overall play on field is decent but he needs to learn some humility.

This is important to me, Dave ain't my captain.

I see a lot of people say Jorginho, but he didn’t lead by taking the ball off Ross either. We sorely lack leaders. personally, I think we need to sell Ross - he’s simply not good enough, flashes of looking a player in pre-season and then as soon as the regular season starts he’s back to being an extremely limited footballer. We are stalked in CM and he’s probably bottom of the pecking order for me, I don’t think he’ll ever fulfil the potential he looked like having at Everton. September 17, 20196 yr Rudiger should be captain, he's the only one who shouts at players and has the personality. Barkley is bang average and should be sold in the summer and most likely will be. Like most of our recent signings he should never have been bought in the first place, the only good thing being we will get our money back. I was never confident he was going to score, should of been Jorginho, i also thought the penalty was harsh on Valencia but then saying that they were lucky not to be down to 10 men.

September 17, 20196 yr He’ll get criticised for missing but at least he wanted to a make a different. Unfortunately he missed and it cost us. I do fear that it make or break for him this season. He’s been with us 2.5 years and bar a few flashes, he’s offered very little output.
September 17, 20196 yr Thought he played well other than the penalty, which at least was struck with conviction rather than the limp penalty we saw from Tammy against Liverpool. Still shouldn't be in the starting line-up often once Kante, RLC and CHO are back. Edited September 17, 20196 yr by Jonty
