Olivier Giroud to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Ridiculous... I knew it, he only had 3 chances and scored all 3 of them, that 2nd goal was an absolute beauty of a finish.

The contrast of this performance compared to Abraham of Spurs. (Sorry, I had to bring it up) but hopefully this is what gives Werner and Tammy a kick up the ass for the chances those two keep missing.

The good thing is, Giroud's game has never been about pace, it's strikers like Aubameyang that will really decline once they start losing their pace. Whereas Giroud has never had to rely on it, so all his qualities are still there.

Criminally underrated player, consumate professional throughout his time at Chelsea. 100% should be first choice up top right now. Loved how he pointed out Kante's contribution after his header as well. Top man, hang on to him Frank!

Hey , they call me Ollie,
Hey, Call me Ollie,
The Charm Striker,
Always smiling and never rude,
Call me Ollie, the one and only Ollie Giroud!

I'm built for comfort, not built for speed,
I got everything you good girls need,
See me coming, throw your man outdoors,
It may not get this way no more!
Call me Ollie, the one and only Ollie Giroud!

Top class performance tonight. I can't think of any other time where his finishing was that good.

A wasted opportunity not starting him against Spuds.

I still think we should go with Werner in the middle against Leeds.

But Giroud has to play more now for sure.

That's what happens when you're real professional, when you gets your chance and you winning the game with 4 goals.

I loved the way how Abraham celebrated with him when he got subbed off, he's very lovely guy in the dressing room and deserves a lot of respect.

If Pulisic is not ready to start, then I'd put Giroud and Werner on the left.

I agree. Leeds play with a high intensity, that is probably a game that wouldn't suit Giroud as much as Werner.

Giroud is not fast by any imagination, but he got ahead of the defender with his clever movement and timing with the first 2 goals. The mental side of the thing, you either have it or don't, and Giroud has it. Does he deserve a start against Leeds? Yes, although with Pullisic close to full fitness, Lampard does have a bit of dilemma.

A great night for Giroud and the team but let's not get carried away and swept up in the euphoria.  This Chelsea team is about the future, not the past; Giroud is not going to be starting many games when Tammy and Werner are in front of him and certainly Werner is not going to be playing out on the wing every game now that everyone is back to full fitness.  Yes Giroud certainly is an impact player, a consummate professional and wonderful in the dressing room by all accounts, but the reality is nothing has changed.  If he stays and sees out his contract he will remain the 3rd choice striker and likely miss the Euro's given Dechamps threat, while only picking up 15-20 mins here and there for the remainder of his contract.

While there are rumours floating around that West Ham and Spurs are 'interested' in him, he'd be no better off at these two clubs IMO than he is now....in fact worse in terms of the players that would be around him.  A dilemma for him no doubt, but I think it's time for him to move on in January and make way for the future of our young strikers.

Just a thought but would it be possible to loan him out for the rest of the season so he can get game time elsewhere and then bring him back as part of the first team coaching staff for the young strikers or even the Academy?  Not sure who has that job right now as I don't see anyone on the list?
