Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

He treat the board and club with equal contempt though, and the players were harshly treat also by him. He played a big part in this divorce.

I get that DKW, but allowing this Sarri saga to continue, with Conte knowing he is teetering on the edge of the plank, with every media outlet circling like bloodthirsty  sharks swimming below, so if we hadn't of got Sarri, Conte continues right?, i just think we could of been more professional, conte proving he could take on the board and survive to the end of the season probably shows Conte was probably correct in saying the club didn't build properly on our title winning season, his spat with Costa was ultimately our undoing, but Costa pushed Chelsea and Conte, and Conte fired back......now he sleepeth with the other fired chelsea bosses.

I think everyone concerned has known the situation for quite some time, conte going through the motions to fulfil contractual obligations etc. From the outside it probably does like a bit wrong but internally i bet no one is concerned in the slightest by how they've been treat.

That last line of yours is a belter though ha ha.

Us older posters can do humour as well apparently..

Fact is, we have no leverage at all. We're already a week into pre-season. We're desperate. ADL is laughing all the way to the bank. He can demand whatever he wants. He's not stupid. We could have avoided all this mess and saved a lot of money if we'd just triggered the release clause. I'm excited about Sarri but I also have some reservations, namely the fact he's old and hasn't won a thing. Let's just hope he proves worth all the time, money and hassle.

Yes, the moping around the second half of the season, saying he is doing the best with the players he has, was ridiculous. Saying that after nearly EVERY MATCH was like nails on a chalk board.

As someone else pointed out, he was trying to get sacked from about mid-January on. He showed a complete lack of interest in some matches making the oddest substitutions at odd points in matches or waiting until the 85th minute to make a change when a change was clearly needed 25 minutes before. He just didn't seem like he cared and didn't want to try anymore, which is sad because he is obviously a great, great manager; especially when he applies himself to the job at hand.

Agreed. His gloom was all pervading.

Very nearly everyone who manages professional football clubs will get the bullet at some point.

Some get sacked almost every season and still manage to stay in work.

59 isn't old for a manager! He still has six-seven good years of management in him.

No one lasts more than two seasons here, so even if he were 63/64, his age would still be an absolute ‘non-issue’. ;)

The fact that he hasn't won a thing is more of a concern to me.

And there is still a lot of confusion on whether he speaks English.

Addendum: I remember reading that he has worked in London before, so may he does.

Winning nothing is something i am bit concerned about too. It wouldn't bother me so much if he was a younger manager, but he's been around for a while now and still has no winners medal. I guess we gotta hope that all it was was that things just didn't fall into place for him at other clubs and hope things will change with us.

but at least we'll be playing beautiful football, Hazard comments after the loss were telling"I prefer to lose with Belgium than win with France,"

lets hope its the step in the right direction

Interesting tweet:

“#Conte was a gentleman on the large part with the media and fans. But people at the club saw a different side to his personality behind the scenes. Key players wanted to leave #cfc - that may change now - which is partly why the club have done it.”

I loved Conte and he is clearly a top manager however he is a poor politician and falls out with clubs wherever he goes. It had to happen and everyone needed to move on because he had sulked and downed tools since January which ultimately cost us top 4.

He was a late bloomer so for all intents and purposes he is quite a young manager, especially at the top level.

Maybe Conte for all his knowledge land success acked the fundamental man-management skills required to keep the camp in harmony, and also know when to play the political game with your employer, ie 'tell them what they want to hear, not what they may fear'

He is an emotional person and he wears that emotion on his sleeve from what I can tell from my extensive time spent with him. ::MooNeY::

But really, I found that interesting, but not surprising. The entire Luiz situation was a head scratcher, and the way he handled Diego Costa was just not the proper way to deal with it.

Like a few others have said, I do worry that Sarri May just play beautiful football and not actually win trophies. I don’t want us to be come Liverpool - spectacular one game but ultimately fail to get over the line and win a trophy. It is not very often that beautiful football and trophies come together

I do hope I am wrong though.

Maybe but then would the same argument be made about Jose when he was here? Who was widely praised for his harmony with players, I’m sure Conte was at Juve & Italy as well.

I don’t want to slate our players, but we have to consider that it’s just our players have quite bad attitudes towards managers.

I’m not saying that is the case, just that it’s possible with two extremely successful managers seeming to fall out with our players.

Sounds like Eden is ok with that and what many care most about is him staying so.

I want an overall change in footballing philosophy at the club. Winning titles will take time.

Winning titles may not even happen under Sarri. But if the club plays exciting football that pushes me to the edge of my seat, I'd be more than happy.

We are not divinely entitled to win titles all the time, but we can definitely demand the club plays better football than the pile of rubbish that was repeatedly trashed at us last year.

Maurizio Sarri has delivered an ultimatum to De Laurentiis. If he is not freed by Napoli to Chelsea - by tonight, he will remain under contract for the next 2 years and intends to take his full salary during  this period.

I don’t buy that, the club wouldn’t fire Conte if there was a risk of that happening.

It all depends on one man. If RA is happy with his team being competitive and eye catching, gaining plaudits with the ethos Sarri has installed, but ultimately falling short of silverware, i can imagine a longer than normal honeymoon period and a bit of patience from the fans (like we do), maybe a three year window (six transfer windows of business) of transition before we can really be back to competing for the league title, so top four is going to be Sarri' target for the next three years, we need to go back to being solid performers, not troughs and peakers.
