Interesting, the lad looked like he had potential to become a world beater but stalled over past, 3/4 years?

It would be great if Sarri could turn him into a great player because he certainly can be an exciting player.

This may be optimistic but perhaps Barkley can take up the Hamsik role in our team.

He has the potential just needs to stay fit and get the right coaching

did he though?, he looked a good player and a bad decision maker.

The manager has input in the type of player they identify. It's then up to the DoF (Now Marina) to organise a shortlist of the best players by gathering the data from the scouting team. That's why the profile of the players we are targeting are different now that Sarri is manager.

Monchi did an interview a while back explaining this process in more detail.

Can work well at clubs with stable and built out structures, but that... isn’t us. I think.  While Marina can be a good negotiator, I don’t think she has the experience or knowledge of a Monchi or Emenalo to direct all the scouts and make hard decisions when it comes to it.

We also have a history of some pretty bad last minute purchases in the window, both during and pre dating Emenalo so perhaps that means it is the scout network at play.  But then I get to blame them for Papy and Hector.

At Everton Barkley was a hard driving attacking mid and that's what he's best at. Get him going forward with space and he can do damage. It's fantastic Sarri is picking out players to specifically coach and speaks to his quote on trying to improve players rather than but them. If he can turn a 15m squad player into a real asset good on him, that sort of coaching will save us in the long run

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has said that the club’s former manager Maurizio Sarri tried to “dismantle” the Italian team’s squad by signing their players for his new club Chelsea.

“He wanted to take my whole team to England and dismantle it. I had to lay down the law to Marina [Granovskaia, Chelsea director],” De Laurentiis told Sky Sports Italia. “He wanted Jorginho and I gave him away after I talked to Ancelotti, who told me he was banking a lot on [Amadou] Diawara and that he wanted to play [Marek] Hamsik deeper.”

Could be why the Sarri negotiations dragged on for longer than expected? There was a few rumours flying around that Sarri wanted to sign Mertens, Koulibaly, Hysaj in addition to Jorginho.

“I think something was good, especially in the first half, less in the second half. We lost the distance between defenders and midfielders, but we knew that we have to work, we have to go back to Cobham and work very hard and we know that we have to improve very quickly.”

“I think that the result is not the mirror of the game. But it is more important in this moment and this period the moment, I think. I am satisfied on the performance of the first half, on the first 15 minutes of the second half, not for the last 30 minutes.”

“I would like to talk to the person face by face, I don’t like to talk to the person by telephone. I don’t know, it depends on the club. It is clear from me that it is a pleasure to have Courtois, to have Willian, to have Hazard. But it doesn’t depend on me. So we have to wait. I am confident.”

“I expect us to improve match by match. It’s not easy at this moment because we are without 12 players from the World Cup.”

“It has been a difficult week with a long flight, jet-lag, but at the end of the week I can say we have worked well, and we have played a good match for 60 minutes.”

I really like how he's been setting up the team so far, should get better with time and practice.

Let's hope he is also taking notes of Baka's footballing abilities. :laugh2:

Maurizio Sarri: "I want to stay here for 10 years, then I have to win. Then it depends on the club, but I want to stay here for a long time,"

Forgot the source but this was on twitter. Considering he is almost 60 yrs old he might view Chelsea as his final major work? Here to a hopefully, successful 10 years :good2:

I wonder what the Internet reactions are if he said - I want get through the first season, and then get paid for the duration of my contract. He knows the challenges better than anyone, but so far he hasn't looked overwhelmed by anything.

The Italian head coach, who arrived at Stamford Bridge last month, has already begun to put his stamp on the squad, with a number of double sessions and impressive performances in our pre-season games to date.

With the start of the new Premier League campaign approaching, Sarri is well aware of the importance a winning mentality can breed into his squad and is hoping to start that trend by lifting the Community Shield on tomorrow.

‘I think it’s very important to start with a trophy, said Sarri. ‘At this moment in the season it is also important to see a step forward with our performance, but it’s also very important to win something and we want to do that tomorrow at Wembley.

‘It’s going to be a very difficult match that’s for sure, but we want to win the trophy. Every manager wants to do this.

‘The Premier League table of last season tells me that Man City got 100 points and Chelsea 70 points, so at this moment there is a big difference. We have to try and reduce the 30 points and I know the only way to do this is through hard work. My job is to improve my players and I will try to do this every day.

‘I want to stay here for 10 years. But to do that, I have to win things. It of course depends on the club but I repeat, I would like to stay here for many years.’

Standing in the opposition dugout to Maurizio this weekend will be Pep Guardiola, someone who our head coach knows very well.

He considers the City a boss a friend and in fact spoke to him before arriving in England to take over at Stamford Bridge, with Guardiola urging him to come to the Premier League if the opportunity arose.

‘I spoke to Pep in the summer as we went to visit Arrigo Sacchi together,’ the Italian revealed. ‘When I was with him, I didn’t know I was coming [to Chelsea] then.

‘Guardiola told me that here in England it is very difficult and the level is very high. He had some problems in the first season with results but he says that ‘football is football’ wherever you are. He told me to come to England if I get the chance. I think every coach wants to work in England, as the Premier League is the best league in the world and I feel very lucky to be here now.

‘Guardiola is a friend, yes. I think he’s the best coach in the world, or one of the best for sure. The match is very difficult for one reason: they have worked together for two years and we started only two-and-a-half weeks ago, so for us it will be a very difficult game.

‘We may have to defend against Man City because apart from the tactical point of view, it’s very difficult to face City. I played City in November last season when with Napoli and they were probably at their best then. It was very difficult to play them, the first 20 minutes was a nightmare, it was horrible!

‘I am looking forward to going up against him tomorrow and hopefully we can get the win, but it’s important we have a strong performance too.’
