Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

Better performance from him last night, seemed to benefit from having Kovacic playing quite close to him for large periods.

We looked closer to playing a 4-2-3-1 at times yesterday with Kante the most advanced and often initiating the press in midfield.

I thought it was very interesting that Kovacic was so close, almost playing as a minder for Jorginho, they were hunting as a pair quite often when defending which worked well. It frees Kante to do what he does best and just go where his instincts were leading him.

I don't really think Jorginho did anything different last night, it's just the players around him followed the tactical instructions almost flawlessly.

That's not me criticising him, more pointing out that the system plays a huge role in his effectiveness.

Even ignoring his goal I thought he played well today and we looked the worse for it when he went off.

I thought Jorginho, Willian and Barkley did well today.

I think he has had 3 solid performances on the spin. Also really should've gotten at least 1 assist today.

I think he is starting to adapt.

He has done that ball over the top a few times this season, but our strikers never convert them.

I don't think so, simply the team as a whole is performing better (and Fulham affording him the space he had at the start of the season). As I've said before: his position, more than any other outfield position, needs the players around him to be functioning well, in order to be effective. His performances have been very consistent for most of the season.

He should of had two assist but for fumbling around the box

Should have had at least 5 or 6 for the season....

Took his goal well, but was still quite sloppy with the ball and gave it away several times in crucial areas.

Not sure you were watching the same game as the rest of us.

I'm with Zeta, he gave the ball away very tamely on numerous occasions. Easily brushed off the ball too. Nice finish though.

Kante gave away the ball Rudi gave away the ball Hazard I could name a few more. They all have the ball away more than Jorginho so why aren't the press focusing on these players?

This agenda seriously needs to stop it's ridiculous now seriously boring and jarring now

Am I the only one who felt that Kante was the most to blame for Fulham's goal; it seemed to me that Kante was guarding Chambers, then totally left him while Chambers moved to the far post totally unmarked.  I know, I know, it was zonal marking, but someone had to be assigned the far post, and with no-one there, Kante should have gone with Chambers, but he did not.

My view was that it was a collective issue.

Emerson should have shouted, Kepa should have shouted. Kante should have spotted the space.

Not enough leaders on the pitch...

Ultimately Jorginho's job is to recycle the ball safely and to make sure he passes correctly. He is the registra. It's his job and quite simply, the only job thats been placed on to him by Sarri. He does not help much defensively, nor is there pressure for him to score.

Just as there is more placed pressure on David Luiz' defending and how the spotlight is always on him defensively, the same goes for Jorginho and his role.

Regista means director, he plays mainly as a deep lying midfielder.

He is never going to be an all-round midfielder as we commonly know in the British game yet he is intelligent, can score if left unmarked, moves to close down attackers and will take one for the team if the need arises. Not a true defensive mid-fielder yet has some attributes. For me he does need a stronger defensive midfielder around him yet similarly Utd improved when Matic got defensive support in m/f.

Like you say his main strength is keeping the ball moving and finding forward players when the opportunity arises.

He's our key player and without him the team looks lost, I hope others play as well as he did last game because this last game was supposed to be an easy one and it wasn't easy at all.

I thought Fulham raised their game yet if you do not kill games by not taking your chances you can get caught out.

We need 100% effort now till the end of the season in the league.
