Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

It’s a shame some people can’t look past his stats. Clearly a quality player, I wouldn’t be surprised if everybody is lauding him this time next year. We really need better full backs and goal scorers to get the most out of Jorginho.

I get the criticism in terms of his lack of pace and tackling but his passing and speed of thought is good. Just annoys me when people talk about lack of assists.

I thought it was a pretty good goal from United, more than any massive individual errors.

Azpi got too tight and got turned too easy, Willian only half tracks shaw, and jorginho could've perhaps tracked Mata better aswell.

Small mistakes, but it was a great run from shaw, a great pass from lukaku, shaw then plays a clever ball back into a dangerous area, and we know first hand how clever mata is and he read the play well, moved into the space and finished.

Probably the only bit of quality from either side all match.

Completely agree. Aside from the usual mixture of anger and despair I feel whenever we concede a goal early on, I accepted we were outplayed with style. That pass from Lukaku combined with the run were spot on, almost impossible to defend against.

My only thought was the effort to block the shot wasn't as stoic as the Chelsea defence as old, but that's all...

agreed, if we had scored that i would have been jumping all over the place

The lack of movement from our players sometimes is criminal. In that video you can clearly see the chances are made because the players are making an effort to make runs and he's picking them out. I don't know how we have players on our books that are getting paid 100k+ and plainly can't be arsed to run about a bit more and actually give the defender something to think about.

Disagree - Luiz is nowhere near him at any point. Check the next move:

Knowing Shaw is likely to put a low cross in, Luiz has to protect the six-yard box for a cut-back. Mata is Jorginho's man the whole time, and his reaction is... to stand in the exact same spot and point. Mata is then left completely unmarked by our penalty spot. Can you imagine that Kanté would have ever permitted this to happen if he were our deepest midfielder?

Luiz is no where near him because he runs himself to far out of it.

Jorginho, is filling the passing lane left exposed by Azpi and Rudi being too far apart, even if he does chase Mata, he'd be 5 yards behind, this isn't man to man, we play more of a zonal based system.

Started to look much better in recent weeks and certainly looks better with Ruben next to him.

Almost like he needs some proper movement in order to actually shine.

I think jorginho has been pretty solid for a couple of months now tbh. He is a player that needs passing options, because he doesn't have the physical capability to ride challenges, and when the team dont move he makes mistakes.

Defensively he is starting to become more switched on aswell, his positioning has been better, and doesnt seem to be getting bullied as much.

Last night I thought the midfield played very well, even during the first half. The problem in that 1st period was everytime it went into the front 3, giroud especially, we lost possession. On the odd occasion we did get into a crossing position, the crosses were terrible.

Second half, the front 3 kept possession much better, which allowed jorginho to doew what he does best and act as a fulcrum for the team, and dictate the play.

Some players need quality around them to shine, jorginho for better or worse is one of them.

Mourinho said he thought jorginho was the best midfielder in Europe last night apparently, I certainly wouldn't go anywhere near that far, but I think hes shown enough promise in the last few months, that he could turn out to be a good signing in the long run.

Jorginho is much better when:

- he plays with Ruben and Kante, players who can ja run forward.

- he plays against a side that doesn't run his feet off. In Europe lot of teams play with less pace which suits Jorg.

Both of these things materialized in Napoli. Good player but not a perfect fit for Chelsea.

Surprised to hear such praise from Mourinho tbh.

Speaking on BeIN sports, he said: "Jorginho is, for me, the best midfielder in Europe. The way he controls the game, recovers turnovers of possession and maintains the pressure, it's incredible."

He's surely trolling, right?

The fact that Mourinho had glowing praise for a player like Jorginho set off alarm bells to me, long before I even noticed the "best midfielder in Europe" part of the quote, so I looked into it and it's a fake quote by some random twitter guy.

This is the most frustrating thing to me watching Chelsea at times. So many times it seems like Chelsea are so static and just pass side to side. You watch Liverpool, Barca, City they move constantly without the ball trying to draw the defense out of their shape. I know those teams are a lot further ahead in the type of ball control system so we shouldn't quite expect to be like them. But damn move without the ball sometimes. We are incredibly dangerous when we do so

I agree it is annoying too though would add that for Liverpool it has always been their style at least since the millennium and City have bought the players to achieve that.
