Christian Pulisic - Official

Featured Replies

This last game finished only 2:0 but in all honesty it could have been like 5or6:1or2, just tons of space and loose balls in the midfield...I think Pulisic could have done better than Barkley in that same position and also better than Pedro.

At the moment Pulisic doesn't fit in but some players that get playtime struggle against weaker opposition, it's great to have this prospect on the bench.

Pulisic might find himself in a similar position that CHO was in last year, sooner or later he will get his chance, hopefully after January he will show to the fans what he's capable of.

He's had chances and been extremely underwhelming. His competition is Pedro and Willian, they are begging to be replaced. He needs to show a hell of a lot more. You can't compare him to CHO. He has 120+ appearances and 32 international caps. Dortmund had our pants down, 60m is insane.

Barkley was playing central midfield with Jorginho, I don't see Pulisic in that role. I do think he will get minutes this season. We have a lot of matches in October.

I think Pulisic can play that role as well, he's versatile and I think I saw him playing in a 3 man midfield for his national team. Kovacic can do that role just as decent.

Well he played well vs Liverpool and made a few assists from what I remember. I only compare him to CHO as in the fact that he's also talented and that sooner or later needs to be given the full role to show his abilities. He was more expensive than Jorginho because of his age and potential, not because he should win us games by himself...yet. I guess after all I saw from him I do think there is a big quality there...

Interesting, I haven't seen him play there before and if Kante does miss most of the season through injury  Kovacic will need help.

He’s basically said after the match that he wants to be playing more (good, any footballer should want this) but that he’ll just have to work harder in training to show Frank he warrants more minutes. Good attitude towards the situation he finds himself in to be honest.

Same thoughts I had after hearing what he said.  Glad he’s frustrated.  He has the attitude to take that frustration and harness it into something good.

He’s definitely played as a midfield 3 before, but it’s more of a no10 role.  I don’t see him doing well in the role Barkley played yesterday.  Pedro has been awful this year and I really think it’s only a matter of time before Pulisic jumps him on the depth chart.

That’s the only game he’s looked close to a 60m player. He’s not been good enough. I still feel he could get rotated in a bit more but he needs to show more. I am no massive fan of Willian or Pedro either to be clear.

I think (or hope!) he’ll be one of those players that needs a season to settle in and get used to the league.

Luckily he seems to have the right attitude and more importantly a manager who can develop players not just chuck them on the scrap heap and buy a replacement.

Oh definitely, I’m by no means writing him off but there’s a lot of bickering on social media that there’s an anti-American bias and that he’s hard done by when the simple fact is, when he’s getting chances - he isn’t taking them. It’ll take time to adapt but you can’t just expect to start because we paid a lot of money for you, you need to earn it under Frank and that’s the way it should be. If CP was playing like he did against Liverpool in the super cup then he’d be one of the first names on the team sheet week in, week out.

He may not be playing well enough, but there are many players not playing near well enough to that have got more opportunity.  Barkley sticks out.

The lineup I'd like to see the most right now (with Kante, RLC, Emerson etc out):

Pulisic  Abrham  CHO

Mount  Jorginho  Kovacic

Alonso Tomori Christensen  James

I'd also love to see a match with Jorginho paired with Gilmour, we'd be very hard to take the ball from.

A team with those two in the centre of the park would get absolutely bullied by pretty much any midfield & teams would cut through them like a hot knife through butter.

I agree with the rest of your post, but Willian contributes more defensively which is his one strong suit and is similar output to Pulisic going forward thus far (obviously Pulisic long term will hopefully be much better). My point was, he’s not smashing Franks door down to get a game.

I would also like to see that front 3 and Mount moved into his more natural position. Barkley hasn't done enough to keep his position so far.

He's also infinitely stronger on the ball. Willian's best attribute is his ability to drop short back to goal, hold the ball under pressure and either turn or draw a foul. Pulisic is, at the moment, too weak on the ball to do this. He struggled to do it in a less physical league in Germany too, where he had massive turnover numbers.

Truth is he has a lot of work to do to get near the first team. Particularly with CHO now fit, Mount and Willian playing well. 5th choice winger at the moment.

Might be smart to loan him out within the PL in Jan if he remains 5th choice in his position, and sanction a sale in the summer if Lamps still doesn’t rate him. A loan to a Norwich, Southampton or a Crystal Palace is probably his best fit.

Not sure why he didn't even make the bench tonight, and there were 2 strikers on the bench who didn't get a kick. Felt He hasn't played for like weeks ( apart from that cup game against a lower division team), and if memory was correct, he wasn't exactly a disaster when he played, remember him setting up a few goals. If we do the assist per minutes thing, he actually did quite ok. I still think it's a matter of time to adjust and adapt, a loan to a team in the bottom half isn't going to help anyone, at least this season.

I wouldn't loan him out this season. He has come in to a new club and is trying to fit in with guys that have been together

for some time and of course the youngsters have played together for years .Let him settle in ,give him 20 mins here and there

just bed him in slowly I'm sure he will come good in the end there is a top player in there .😊

I definitely didn't expect him to be left out to this extent. Having said that, it's far too early to properly assess this situation. Fabinho, IIRC, had hardly featured during his first few months at Liverpool. Either on the bench or left out completely. And now he's an integral player for them. Taking his age into account and the fact that this is his first season in the EPL, we probably shouldn't jump to conclusions. He's shown glimpses, especially against Liverpool. He's young, inconsistent, and in the most physical league in the world. Only time will tell, but I'm certainly optimistic.

Personally I feel the age issue might be the difference between his & Fabinho’s situation. Fabinho was 25 when he came into the PL and had already logged 14000mins in Ligue 1, Pulisic at 20 has what about 4000mins in the Bundesliga & coming off a season where he hardly featured for Dortmund. He is at an age where he needs to playing regularly to develop, while Fabinho is near his peak.

I reckon there are more similarities with the Salah/De Bruyne situation, but like you say it’s still early on. However come Nov/Dec when we are playing 2x weekly, if he is still on the outs it might be ideal to loan him out in Jan.

I think Pulisic has been one player that has suffered from the successful integration of so many academy players this season. If the likes of Mount hadn't done so well he probably would have had more opportunities. That being said I think he will get his chances and hopefully he will use them to stake a claim for his place in the side. He got a full game last week against Grimsby and did OK, although he wasn't a standout player that night.

He wasn't Lampard signing, not sure how Lampard really rates him.

I'd say he didn't really impress, only at the Supercup against Liverpool he was good. But he still can be useful, he got pace, he can dribble, he can beat players, I'd prefer to see him getting minutes than Pedro.

Lampard should put some faith in him, being left out the squad against Lille won't raise his confidence. I believe his chance must be against Southampton.

Some rotation to the lineup won't hurt us a lot. It's hard to judge him because he needs more minutes, more gametime to show himself. The money we paid on him makes it harder, a lot of pressure.

I really hope he will do the work for us, for now he isn't Hazard, but he could be useful to our squad.

Willian and Pedro are important in that provide some experienced balance to the youth players. However I suspect one or both will leave after this season. Hopefully Pulisic will work hard, take his opportunities, and bide his time. If he does I have no doubt more opportunities will open up as the season progresses.

Interesting point - i'd almost forgotten about Pulisic with Mason and Hudson Odoi coming through ahead of him. Feel like there's a good chance this is Pedro's last season here, and that Pulisic perhaps deserves to at least be getting that 20 minute substitute role ahead of him.
