If anyone thinks Clearlake are here to make Chelsea a functional, profitable business, they haven't been paying attention to what American private equity has been doing for the last two decades

I must admit - and I'm not not proud of this  - that indeed I have not been paying attention to what American private equity has been doing for the last two decades.

I thought it was lined up for last season too ?

There was talk last year. Apparently came to nothing. Announced a deal with Paramount only for the PL to kybosh it for pretty obvious reasons.

There, that’s more accurate

Thinking the PL would allow promotion of competition to their overseas rights holders was naive in the extreme. Eg, Liverpool's shirt sponsor is Standard Chartered Bank. Do you see other banks promoted inside the stadium? Basic business.

If I remember correctly, Paramount+ sponsors some German teams and they don’t have the bundesliga tv rights in Germany, is there anywhere a written rule that you can’t be sponsored in the U.K. by other media than those with the corresponding tv rights? Naive, maybe, but I don’t think it was against the rules. I may be wrong though.

And Inter in Italy I think

It's a business decision and understandable in business terms. The PL's broadcast rights, particularly in the States, are worth a fortune. Obviously they are not going to want to publicise opposition to their broadcast partners. It's Business 101. The BL, and, for that matter, Serie A, are pretty much irrelevant. Their broadcast rights, particularly in foreign markets, are worth close to zilch.

Can the owners please buy Brighton, set it up as a franchise in New York and jog on now? If this season turns into a mess, the blame is on them and I hope theyre hounded from the ground and dont turn up anymore such will be the levels of abuse they will rightly deserve. Absolutely despise the new owners.

I am pretty sure that had Chelsea challenged the PL decision via the appropriate route ( arbitration) then the PL would have had to reverse that decision. I can only think I it wasn’t challenged in that way because Chelsea don’t want to rock the boat with the PL be cause of pre takeover investigation.

Paramount + is a legitimate well run and world wide company they have nothing in their trading history that suggests they trade contrary to English law nor is it listed in the type of business ( betting ) that will soon be a thing of the past when it comes to these companies occupying front of shirt positions.in effect the non agreement is tantamount to censorship via the application of an non competitive ruling

I very much doubt that it is a factor in the rights contract that said rights holder has any right of veto when it comes to front of shirt and when you bear in mind that the major rights holder ( Sky) are business owned by Comcast who own the US rights holder NBC and it’s subsidiary then it gets even more confusing and muddy because Comcast gladly broadcast Paramount + on their numerous platforms.

Same here, they've totally ripped the heart out of the club. Just to listen to their arrogant laid back attitude attitude grates on me. They treat the club as an asset, nothing more than a money making one. No soul left as a football club. They are just blinkered 'bankers' like other American owners coming in to Football.

I used to look forward to the close season and see who we might be after in the transfer market, now ffs they buy an 'asset' and we hear about it from some foreign journo.

All this 'money speak' profit, loss, amortisation, profit forecasting, etc. etc. sick of of it.

My mates and myself are getting further away from the club i have loved for more than 50 years. I haven't been for a while now and i don't think i'll be going any time soon, we now go to our local team, in my case Slough town. Very affordable, drink beer all through the game, no diving and cheating, and the number one thing about them is their connection to the fans.

So all in all pretty pissed off with the whole debacal.

The Chalobah story is so sad IMO.

Like some others on here I rate him higher than Disasi and Badiashile and would rather take a financial hit on one of those than sell Trevor.

Surely if we sold one of those players for say £20m that is better than nothing.

And publicly letting everyone know he’s for sale is weakening our hand and will surely just invite low ball offers.

If we carry on like this then we could be in serious danger of not attracting any local talent to the academy as they and their parents will work out they are just an asset to make money on to spend on “potential” from South America.

What I’m really surprised is that the Chelsea Supporters Trust haven’t said anything yet. I always thought they were the go-between between the fans and the Chelsea Board.

Surely they must have an idea of some fans starting to feel a disconnection from the club.

It’s all very strange at the moment.

As soon as they spot a home grown player, they just see the big $ sign, whether the player could play is almost irrelevant. It's only a matter of time before they move on to the likes of Colwill and James. In TC's case, I don't think he's a nailed down starter, maybe never will be. But from pure football side, he's good enough to play for the team and every team needs a player or two playing his roles. I'm getting numb about this approach of buying every youth possible from overseas, and sell academy players to balance the book, and making a sneaking profit ( thanks to the creative accounting with FFP rule).

It's a shame and I also think it's a fairly flawed long-term plan.

If you think of it from a youth players POV, why hang around at Chelsea past 18? You don't have a long term future, so go somewhere where your value is measured in footballing ability rather than a literal dollar value.

Eventually the talent pipeline from Cobham dries up and then what?

Amazed that we still haven’t heard anything about the dodgy Roman deals/accounting? No updates?

Aren't we in enough crap atm? Lol

Then again...

From the last 2 preseason games, I doubt points deduction would do much difference tbh, lol.

Wonder who is more upset right now Strasbourg or us with this ownership. It seems to be buy 4 players for 20 mil sell one for 120 mil (hopefully)?
